Great looking machine if I'd seen this afew years ago I would have built one. My wheel chair is so hard to move now, have you tried to build it into a wheel chair?
As someone who has been riding handcycles for 16 years, I can tell you that you would not enjoy one like this that has offset peddles like a regular bicycle. When they are together, like most handcycles, you can push and pull, while keeping the steering straight and they also act like a set of handlebars when turning. This would be awkward and uncomfortable after any length of time. Climbing hills would be almost impossible.
@PostToastie Agreed. It should be relatively easy to change this, however, after watching the video again, I noticed that the whole steering column from the crank to the main frame moves right to left for cornering. The rider actually has to lean into the turn. Depending on the level of disability, this would be very difficult for some. In addition, the added leverage would increase the instability once you were under exertion or became tired and could no longer hold it up straight.
@EadNomad It does look comfy but the rider is on a flat, smooth surface. Handcycles are more difficult to propel than regular bikes, so you have to put a lot of strength into them for climbing, off-roading or strong winds. With offset peddles, you will steer the bike from right to left when exerting yourself as the peddles are attached to your steering column and move. Push/pull is more stable in this situation and have the added bonus of acting like regular handlebars when cornering.
@EadNomad I forgot to mention in my last post that push/pull actually requires less effort than offset as you have more strength when using both arms together in the same motion rather than one at a time. It may look more difficult in some vidoes as riders often move forward and back putting their trunk into it so it looks less graceful at times. Especially when climbing hills or getting up to speed.
tried one with "feet drive" both back wheels "powered" ... great fun! especially down a hill ^^

@SuperDoug63 I think that would be easy to change on this model.

@SuperDoug63
just curious. i've seen other "push pull together" handbike videos. they seem to take more efforts from trunk/ waists while this one looks comfy?
