  • I've never heard this version before today but I've enjoyed the new birth's version for many many years...

  • Real words from the heart, beautiful.

  • EBRO MUSIC TRIVIA:

Buffy Sainte-Marie-UNTIL IT'S TIME FOR ME TO GO (1970)

    Vanguard Records

America's Revival Hits of 1970 originally recorded on 1965

  • it's been years since I've heard this..gorgeous.

  • tres tres bien...grace

  • Actually, Buffy Ste Marie and Claude Gauthier, a french canadian singer from Québec did wrote this song together. In the early, both were singing at Carnegie Hall with Peter, Paul & Mary as main stars. While waiting for the show to start, Buffy and Claude sympathised and started playing guitar's reefs together while putting some words that became "Until It's Time For You To Go" for the Buffy's version and "t'es pas une autre" for Claude Gauthier version.

  • Dont ask why, dont ask how, dont ask forever why i love this song so very much. so sad and leaves me humming it all day long after hearing it.

  • love buffy!! <3 she sings it as a woman, and elvis the king, as a man <3

  • though i'll never in my life see you again.just that line gets me every time.thinking of lost loved ones.god bless them:(

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I love this song.

  • Yes, this takes me back to 1970 when I fell in love with someone who had to leave me. Hard to believe that he is now almost 80 years old. We were so young once upon a time.

  • I have the Four Pennies versionof this which is also excellent.

  • I've been looking for this for at least 30 years. It is as goosepimply as when I heard it all those years ago...and I do think she sings if better when it is from that time.

  • This song used to be featured on board First Air's aircraft. It still can be played aboard their Hawker 748 aircraft.

  • ELVIS RULES!

  • @DeckyStrikesBack Bad news mate ....He's died!!

  • @computerrage Thats old news-you just hearing that now? :) He Still rules buddy!

  • @DeckyStrikesBack Well he doesn't rule ...All his hangers on rule ...Much the same as when he was alive

  • @computerrage im eating a pot noodle at the mo.

  • @DeckyStrikesBack Peanut butter and jello flavour?

  • @computerrage HA HA thats m y fave comment of 2011 so far

  • A song that really means a lot...

  • Check out Mike Nesmith's version.

  • I met Buffy St. Marie not realizing who she was under a boat in Marine where she was sleeping. Playing songs for the fishermen.

  • Picked up her complete works at the library for free!!!!

    Beautiful song Buffy wrote.

She said songs just come to her while she is just peaceful and she writes them right down and they are there to expand on. Such an artist, human activist and mother. An icon in the world of spiritual connections. PeaceI JP.

  • @Ranjeeb respectfully, i prefer elvis version. he makes me sad, happy.

  • Love this song sung by Buffy I played the LP over and over this was my favourite song on her Greatest Hits album. 40 years and I remember the lyrics I cannot even remember my bank can VISA card this is how big the impact on me. Universal Soldier was another fav... love her voice

  • One of the most beautiful and painful love songs ever written. She was in a relationship with a married man at the time, knew he would have to go.

  • There was a great version done by the mersey group the four pennies .

  • @1969jmd Blackburn

  • I have always loved Buffy's voice, and I used to watch her years ago on Sesame Street when my kids were small. Glad people are still listening to her.

  • Essa é outra jóia da Música Americana.

Que letra...!!! Quanta gente deveria ouvir

    isso!

  • The original record.........."you could have stayed outside my heart.........but in you came.......".

  • I've been an avid fan of Ms. Buffy since the 1970s ... saw her in concert at Lincoln Center in NYC ...

Cymeron ... anything on vinyl is better ... lol

  • First time I heard this as originally recorded by Ms. Buffy. Her rendition is just as good but I specially enjoy listening to Ms. Claudine Longet's which I didn't know was just a cover version. Please help me find it. Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for posting this-I never knew this was Buffy St M.-nice song

  • Wonderful, wonderful song and voice. Thanks for sharing her work with me Luis.

  • Fell in love with her when I first heard her sing, had an 8-track I wore out wish I still had it.

  • Amazing!!

  • beautiful

  • i have never heard of Buffy Sainte Marie till tonight and she was radio 4 here in england i know of this song it is really good all the best from yorkshire england

  • I first heard this on a four pennies EP, and noticed that buffy had written it. So it's good to hear the original

  • It is lovely, isn't it? :)

  • So glad I found this. Loserswin783 is right - it is a woman's song. Beautiful.

  • *****

  • I tried to find it with Johnny in the Internet, but the album was never released on CD and now I know my LP is worth good 20 bucks!

  • is there a way to convert vinyls to a proper digital format? i don't know, but i'd lke to listen to any version of this classic.

and... i didn't want to put you down, vaccavo.

  • If you gve me some time - maybe a month - I'll try and find somebody to convert my vinyl and put the track on YouTube. (Don't have the proper equipment, alas.)

  • great, i'll be back then and listen, thanks in advance

  • why would you do that? the vinyl version is much better than digital.

  • Check out the version she and Perry Como did at Puye Pueblo in New Mexico. It's here on youtube. Video is rough but the sound is great. It's really special. Filmed (as part of Perry's Christmas special) in the fall of 1979,.Wow! Wow! Wow!

  • O'course

  • this is some kind of remake of the song, many years after it was published for the first time.

now i know the *elvis* version, but what should i say... he made some artificial thing out of this.

still can't imagine anyone performing it better than buffy.

  • just found the neil diamond version and it's a shame.

you could ask bob dylan to arrange and sing it, but certainly he'd disagree on that endeavor.

this is a female song. ;-)

  • I have the album on which Johnny sings it. Guess people could try to find it and listen.

    xoxoxoxoxoxo from Rio de Janeiro.

  • I only knew Johnny Mathis's version, until right now. It's full of emotion, and the orchestrations is beautiful.

Sorry, but Johnny gives it all it deserves.

  • @vaccavo Nahh...nothing can beat her original.

  • @vaccavo But Buffy wrote and felt it.

  • For whatever reason I wasn't crazy about Buffy back in the day. Well, several decades later, I realize this is the only version !

  • love this album

  • I love Buffy

    I love this song

    30年ほど前の曲ですがいい曲ですね

  • I watch the Doctor/Rose version of this video to this song daily and makes me cry every time. It's not just their love story but it's the beautiful lyrics to this hauntingly amazing song. Tonight I found this version with the lyrics.

Here is a Quote from Buffy's site:

This song popped into my head while I was falling in love with someone I knew couldn't stay with me. The words are about honesty and freedom inside the heart.

  • The one and only version, all the others just don't seem to have any emotion.

  • @conniff44 Neil Diamond's version on his "Rainbow" album had quite a bit of emotion, as I recall.

  • this is really beautiful
