Blue Oyster Cult rose to the top because of the songwriting, singing, and arrangements contributed by Joe and Albert Bouchard, Allen Lanier, Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma. That lineup is uncanny in what they can do. Had the original 5 never broken up, they would still be pumping out albums today. The sum of all 5 is what made them spectacular. I say this with the caveat that the sheer talent of Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma have allowed them to overcome the handicap of the absence of the others.
