  • It still must have a valve spring for good valve cooling and sealing.

  • Ducati is the most exotic beautifull bike. Love it.

  • This would be a cool screensaver!

  • this is pretty helpful. i understood the concept of a springless valve system, but couldn't visualize it until now. HOORAY!!!

  • there are some real morons here.

  • interesting design. why not used more in motor vehicls?

  • because its more expensive.

  • Because its high maintenance.good for racing a high RPMS.

  • vaffanculo idiota

  • No DUMBASS they dont think they made it first. They have made more production desmo valvetrain motors than any other company going though. Might want to read a book to get your facts strait. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

  • Hey zig hial you wanabee looser. And BMW is doing so well in world superbike. If all you can do is cuss and go hahahahahahaah, your family tree resembles a telephone pole. When you grow up , then come back.

  • le cose geniali sono sempre le più semplici...basta arrivarci...grande ducati...orgoglio italiano

  • 12,000 miles on a 900SD without needing adjustments. By then valve guides and bores are hourglassed and need replacement. Too bad shot doesn't show bevel gear driveshafts. Or is it a belthead? Hairpin springs keep valves closed for starting and closer rocker is set at zero. Stretch it's legs once and you are hooked on that motor forever.

  • leaves error for leaky valves though- as the cam wears it will leak,naturally- all parts would need to be case hardened, and still would need adjusting all the time

  • here on this simulation you don't see the two springs which are holding all this together and tight

  • This desmodromic valve train is not designed for the casual biker. The cam wear is surprisingly minimal on these motors as the cam followers are not forced against the cam lobes by stiff valve springs. As far as case hardening, Ducati's history of subtle evolution over years of racing have struck a nice balance between over hard brittle parts and soft quickly wearing valve train elements. They are not fragile or finicky bikes. I own four unrestored, running Ducatis. Love em!

  • New motors since late 90's use tripple metal valves. If not abused will go a long time without adjustment. Checking clearance and shiming is not that big of deal.

  • ok. now i understand. i always wondered by the ducati has such a beautiful, erotic sound to the engine.

    thanks!
