A thing I cannot realise unitl now is that Kerry & Jeff were 19 years old in this gig! And the "songwriting" is unbelieveble, more than other amazing stuff about Slayer... only 19 yeas ago! These tracks are f*cking original and "consisting" (could I say so? My english is worst :-)
Couldn't agree more with the opening statements of this video. So refreshing to know there are people out there who 'know whats up'!! Nu-metal SUCKS!!!
dang....reminds me of '84 watching these cats at some awesome rock club in San Antone ( I totally forgot the name, they always had awesome metal..). I think I was 15 or 16, totally underaged, being blown away.
Yeah, that was the show they played all the unreleased pre-album tracks, but they played the Woodstock multiple times.
I'm thinking this is the July 1st show at the Woodstock because there was a known Slayer gig on this date at the Woodstock, and at the end Tom mentions their upcoming Aug. 12th show with Witch, which was also at the Woodstock.
Slayer was in fact just as 'big' or as 'known' as Metallica was in 1983; They were all over the place in the Bay Area, and every headbanger had both Slayer and Metallica patches on the back of their Levi's jeans jacket, with cutoff sleaves, worn over a leather jacket, the classic Ramones rock'n'Roll style; San Francisco in 1983-1987
Amazing early Slayer; This is when I saw them, a year after this, when Tom Araya was still doing the high-pitched 'falsetto' screams in between verses, and on certain notes. check out 3:40-4:05
This is some of the best true Slayer video ever!...The sound is way better than most '83 boots...and the band looks just like they do on the back of Show No Mercy!!!...amazing.
actually, its the other way around. hit the lights was written by james and hugh tanner when james was in phantom lord/leather charm and it was written in 81. and aggressive perfector was written in late 82. i don't know if its a rip off but that would be the same as saying that show no mercy was a rip off of motorbreath
The weak, they will always suffer, they shall be stamped on and they shall be spat on! But the strong will always survive!!!! The strong are... THE AGGRESSIVE PERFECTOR!!!!
Actually the entire thrash/speed/death meatal scene completely died by the end of 1990 and so did it's style/enrgy/magic. Slayer today is nothing like they were in this video.
I saw them in 86 and 87 in L.A. and by the end of 88 they were starting to loose thier magic but then again so did metallica, megadeth, mercyful fate/king diamond, kreator, death angel, possessed, exodus venom, nuclear assult, anthrax, dark angel, motorhead, voi vod,and all the ones I forgot. By the end of 1990 all of these bands had lost thier magic. This slayer video catches what it WAS all about back then.
Damn... Jeff with a V, Tom with a P-bass, Kerry with an ML, and Dave with a single bass drum. Not to mention their hair was barely even long by this time. How things change...
Jeff Hanneman looks wierd with a V...Looks halfway between Dave Mustaine and KK Downing, LOL...Is that a ML that Kerry King is playing? Thats just weird!
Not really strange, it's probably just before he got the Les Paul. There are about 2-3 '83 shows on video I know of where he's playing a flying V, and they're all earlier ones, so he probably got it/used it later in 1983.
There are also some really old Slayer pics where he's got a Gibson Explorer.
Fucking bad ass!! the good ol days. although they still keep it brutal,Slayer jumped the shark when kerry king shaved his head and endorsed his own line of BC rich guitars. I mean come on, what's wrong with keeping the long locks? even balding, He could have been the watermelon smashing "gallagher" of speed metal, well, him or Scott Ian.
there was a guy that said pantera was better than slayer but at least slayer wasnt cock rock in the 80's, this is real fucking metal
