  • Such watered down routines and kind of boring

  • @ddj8877 this is part of the compulsories, once a major part of competition and many (myself included) wish they would return. Look up Silivas' 88 compulsory routine. Its poetry.

  • she did, but I couldn't help but notice the U.S. at that time was rooting against each other, coaches fighting and jealous. It was almost as if they weren't allowed to talk to each other. I think part of the 96 success was they finally adopted some team spirit and weren't just out for themselves.

  • Lovely routine, she times her hand motions with the music so well. That big hop just kills me though.

  • She seems even more amazing here because she won compulsories, came in second in optionals and then second in the all-around, and came in the top 3 on every event except vault in event finals. And she only lost the all-around to a gymnast that wasn't in the competition fairly...

  • @lostlyrarose no she came in first in optionals

  • @moopoo66 do you mean just beam optionals? I was talking about how zmeskal outscored her in optionals for all 4 events.

  • @moopoo66 I'm looking for the specific scores, but I believe NBC announced that Kim had beaten her in optionals by a small margin.... I can't find my International Gymnast with the exact scores....

  • @lostlyrarose actually kim was like in 5th bc of her fall shannon was in first after optionals and they started new life in the AA

  • Every time I watch this, I can't believe how she was just a cut above on this. That step on the dismount is the only error.

  • does anyone notice her movements are TOTTALY in sync with the floor music in the background! watch again and you'll see it makes it more marvolues! like it was planed!. also GORGEOUS and graceful exersise

  • The compulsory routines they worked out for this Olympics were not great, they were much much better in 1996. I mean they have the same beam and bar dismount.

  • I found 93-96 compulsories to be poorly choreographed in general.

  • @TuesdayPillow same i liked this choreography better they show flexablity, balance, and grace

  • They should of inserted the " microscrew " in John Tesh's Brain

  • @FLACSC74 HA HA that was funny

  • This is simply beautiful. Poetry in motion!

  • Crazy. I watched this twice, the second time just observing the arms and hands. Very few gymnasts have ever had this kind of insane precision and artistry. I can't think of one, in fact. Bravo, Shannon!

  • Nadia.

  • not even

  • Shannon's first "peaking" of her career was in 1992 - I feel in the Olympics she outperformed EVERYone in terms of presentation and mental toughness.

  • If Shannon hadn't lost 0.1 on the dismount, she would have scored a 9.987! She was incredible on the beam compulsory! (See also her routine in Atlanta).

  • That is crazy. Judges do not deduct a tenth for a hop, on anything except maybe a big hop on vault, that is only dumb commentary cliche. I could give you a million examples that prove this. If you really believe that this though Bontas would have gotten a 10 on compulsory beam without her hop as she scored 9.9, and Onodi a 9.987 too without her hop as she scored 9.887.

  • The judges could have deducted a whole tenth if they chose to. There is no way of knowing if she was deducted the whole tenth or not. Regardless do you have to be so rude to everyone? Stop trying to lower Shannon Miller's accomplishments as a gymnast to give Nastia more credit. This is not the first video you have done this on.

  • Haha what the hell does Shannon have to do with Nastia. I do like Nastia but she has nothing to do with my comments or opinions on Miller.

  • Sometimes that's true. Bontas' routine was dreadful, but she did not take a hop on her dismount. No doubt both Miller and Onodi would have scored much higher if they hadn't hopped, and their scores would've come very close to a perfect 10.

  • I thought Bontas was very weak. Can't believe all the judges gave her the highest mark. She bobbles like 4 times. Miller's was by far the best.

  • I agree with you on Bontas's score. Her compulsory beam routine looked like a bit of a disaester.

As for Miller though she had a hop on the landing as you can see. The judges had to deduct her for that, and she still tied for 2nd highest, so if she had stuck it she would have had the highest.

  • Well she was not outscored by all those you mentioned. She was barely behind Bontas, tied with Gutsu, barely ahead of Bogunskaya. Here are the compulsory beam scores of the "big guns: 1. Bontas-9.900 2-tie. Miller-9.887 2-tie. Gutsu-9.887 2-tie. Onodi-9.887 5-tie. Bogunskaya-9.875 5-tie. Chusovitina-9.875 7-tie. Milosovici-9.862 7-tie. Okino-9.862 9. Lysenko-9.837 10. Gogean-9.800 I discount Kim who fell.
  • Its a shame that Galeva is not listed among the high scorers since she out performed at least 5 gymnasts on this list.

  • she should have gotten the highest score on compulsary beam, she was much better than gutsu, bontas and boginskaya.
