yeah fine the critics but jkb isnt lady gaga, look at were he is sitting geez, look like school contest, i mean i dont know if he made-make money out of jesu-gf-final-whitestaticdemonandthousandofsideproject but its seems to me the humble guy next door..at the end of the day he made and still play good music, so, criticise his music rather then the man itself
This truly was an AMAZING interview. I watch all three videos of it. I can relate to all of what he was saying whether about music, to nihilism, misanthropy, death, etc........ This man is truly one of a kind and he found his outlet in life to express it.
"I'm not gonna be 40 years old, standing on stage, screaming my head off, playing songs I made when I was 19 years old. To me that's as bad, as ingeniously as one can get. It's a karaoke, I'm disgusted with it. I'd rather give up music than have to do it."
Shame, this is exactly what's he doing right now. What a fucking, stupid dumbass hypocritical liar.
@PATEv4 He has stated numerous times - his music he is performing at a given time is autobiographical. Godflesh reformed why: *ding* he started to have those feeling again in his life and he separates his projects based on his feelings. Jesu, P.S., Godflesh, etc. He was asked about it many times and he said the same answer - something like "it's in me again".. Either way: You know damn sure he was talking about bands like Motley Crue and such who at 40+ still sing about partying in the 80s.
When you listen to his work, it sounds like he understands music very well, he's labeled as a post-metal, but he's post-punk. But this interview provides that he can't read music. Its amazing to think that this man like he says "doesn't believe in boundaries". Fuck yeah!!! You don't need to read music to make music. PROPS justin :]
What an awesome humble guy. I love seeing people like this who take their music seriously but not necesarily themselves. As if their just a mouthpiece. Great band too.
what a great guy. it's so true that you can look back at all the things you were into so long ago and they perfectly mirror who you were and what you were going through. check out rothko for a similar vibe.
This interview is brilliant. Everything he says I agree with - proves that you don't need to be a technically perfect ponce who looks down on musicians who cannot read music to make great music. I think that, like him, I may be more of a post punk fan and admirer than a metal fan...
I think all of Justins music is groundbreaking and really projects how mature it got with his song writing. He seems like a legend, be so good to have some pints and a chat with him.
Justin is a legend because he is always seeking something meaningful and lasting in his music, something that doesn't just appease the lowest common denominators. And I still love side A of Scum!
or is it one of these "sooooo underground" bands that no one has heard of, except you and an elite few? (cool people, of course?)
I just think it's ironic that people "liken" bands that have been around for years, to new bands...if anything, you should have said "a mix of Jud(d?) and Mogwai sound like Jesu"...but that's semantics my friend.
Damn, hats off to showing such honesty, and allowing contradictions to rise in what he says (and knowingly), a real class act. and Hands down my favorite musician
Can't thank you enough for this clip. Justin helped me through my nihilistic period and now he is helping me transition into the next phase with Jesu. He ranks up there with all of the great music artist; yes a living legend!
These are great clips. The interview is actually interesting; the live clips are long enough to whet my appetite (especially with Jesu, the music really needs "room"), but not so long that it's not still a tease, making me want more. And he's a "cute" drunk (I feel like I'm sitting in a pub with bud), and a very charismatic speaker -- I could listen to him for hours.
@DustyChalk JKB is one of those rare exceptions to the rule, "never meet your heroes." He 's just so vulnerable in this interview, like we're actually getting to know him, rather than some persona made up to sell records. This is a guy I could hang out and have a beer with.
It's rare someone speak so freely and honest in regards to the 'truth' about the music their making. Very self aware and humble. Thanks for posting this. I can absolutely relate.
On the live clips his voice sounds really knackered.. but it's great to see them playing and this is a fucking great interview.. i can strongly relate to some of the stuff he says.
his musical philosophy isn't really that different from someone like cobain's.

Oh please, most of your stuff is on the legendary side of music !
Let me build you back some confidence, most of the stuff from Godflesh and Jesu is objectively brilliant...

With all his influences, I'm surprised he doesn't sound like the Pixies....
