how do you kill your friend roughly roughly roughly LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Tom Lehrer, what a treasure. Saw this on Electric Company as a kid. Many many years later discovered his political and mathematics songs!!! Bonus!
This song was a real classic and it still stick in my head to this day and I'll be turning 40 in a few months and as old as TEC!! Indeed good memories and looked forward to watching it after SS & Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.
he is the best! check out "the remains of tom lehrer" for this song and all the others from the electric company and all his others. anyone remember poisoning pigeons in the park?!
@dlkes5 "Keep those reefers hidden where you're sure that they will not be found, /and be sure to never smoke them when the Scoutmaster's around! /For he only will insist that they be shared . . . BE PREPARED!!"
"First you get down on your knees, /fiddle with your rosaries, /bow your head with great respect and . . . genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!"
"I hold your hand in mine, Dear. I place it to my lips . . . " (I'm gonna stop right here with that one.) (^-^)v
@rainbowheydrich Unless you're older than Tom himself then you're at the right age to enjoy any and all of his music. And even if you're older, some may look at you strange if you don't like it.
as a kid...this song made me laugh my butt off. As an ADULT...this song makes me laugh my butt off. "Immediately! Immediately! Immediate...L.Y! Bye bye!"
My kids absolutely LOVE original Electric Company episodes. Bizarre that the same show that helped me learn to read is now teaching my kids to do the same. Tom Lehrer was hilarious back in the day...Silent E is another classic. Found out from the EC DVD that "Letterman" (the EC superhero not David) was voiced by Gene Wilder and the narration was by Joan Rivers. And of course Mel Brooks' "who's the dummy writing this show?" What a cast for a kids show!
@MsPandaRosa : Amen. The new EC has little in common with the old show except the name, the general goal (teaching literacy) and one holdover character (Paul the gorilla). It's good that they're highlighting some new words and adding a plot to each episode, but the range of material has shrunk badly--the new show teaches fewer topics, and uses the same predictable song/cartoon styles to do it. Joan Ganz Cooney, where are you when the Workshop needs you?

Y'know, the melody of this song is actually quite interesting. The phrase has a really solid, bombastic ending.
That's strong songwriting right there.
