This wasn't bad, but would have been much better if you didn't sound like you were reading everything and sounded like you were more.."into" the review.
@SandersonCallum Doom 1 was released in 1993 and Doom 2 was in 1994. ROTT was released in 1995. Alot of new technology can be discovered in one year. Look at Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Wolf3D was in 1992. Between the time Wolf3D was put out and Doom was, there was much more they could do with Doom than they could with Wolfenstein. So it is most likely that in 1993 - 1994 they could not do that.
@SandersonCallum Once again, the Doom engine was made around 1993 I'm guessing because 93 was when Doom 1 came out. The ROTT engine was a highly modified Wolfenstein engine and ROTT came out early 95 or somewhere along in there.. So maybe when the Doom engine came out, maybe they could not incorporate it. Im not really sure. If I worked for Id Software or Apogee I would know for sure.
Nah they used wolfenstein engine because doom was still not complete at that time and rott was made by ID and Apogee but ID canceled their project with apogee dunno why.
The only company ID loved working with was/is raven software ID worked on heretic and hexen and then later hexen 2, soldier of fortune 1 etc....
but wait then again you do have to add that RoTT is a modified wolf3d engine...so they probably could have done similar in doom. So, @spartanwarrior545 your argument appears to be invalid.
Man oh man. This one brings back memories. I remember calling my buddy up back in the day. We would both hit up a BBS from our lightning fast state-of-the-art 56k modems, and play ROTT for hours. A game well ahead of its time and truly a classic in my book. Thanks for the review!
Another classic wonder... there are source ports, but still it is best played in DosBox.
You can't imagine how huge this game is until you've played all 34 levels. And you can't imaginew how awesome it is until you've blown someone into "ludicrous gibs", or bitten someone's head off in Dog Mode... give it a try!
@AlexeiVoronin no without sourceports you really do miss alot. I have this on CD ROM, and I've used both methods to play it. And source ports have Bot mode since no one plays it online as far as I know.
I also have a random map creator that came with the CD
Really nice game to play. The have do a great work... this game have so much revolutionary ideas for that times... For example JUMPPADS... you can see tyhem in Q3... but 5 years later... heh =)
Holy cow I haven't seen RoTT in years, and given the fact that new things have happened to it like Doomsday and Jdoom (stuff like that) I can relive the goofy yet fun to play shooter.
Looks like a fun game, I like the fact they used Apogee employees as voice actors because it makes the game feel more home made. I'll definitely give this one a try sometime.
Cool review!

I kinda wish they made shareware versions of games with exclusive levels these days. Or even demos at all for some games.
