this match was so good. probably michaels finest hour of 1996 outside of bret defeat at mania. bret can be critized a bit here, as who else could HBK work with ? taker? he had to go to the kliq. (read hart's book for what i'm talking about) yet the pay off for a 3-4 return match hart-hbk would have been epic then both get defeated by stone cold leading up to mania...hbk was the wrestler of 1996 the greatest worker since randy savage...in 86!
love michaels little mocking of scott hall and hogan was hall already at wcw or was his last match also on this night? bet in back of vinces mind he was thinking 'oh shit ther goes two of my biggest right ther' and a few weeks later he'd lose shaun waltman an all
@huskerhotelfoxtrot Just curious, what was the overall mood like that particular evening @ the event?...& was it exciting to have Shawn & Nash as the main draw?
Diesel signals to someone and points at them about the jack knife and Shawn talks a bunch of crap at the end to someone in the audience. Who was in the crowd?
@mikebizzle6 Eric Bischoff... He tried to sign away HBK the night before the show, and HBK refused and even mocked hogan during his post match celebration... You could hear him(shawn) screaming something like "where the big boys play.... bullshit! bring it!" or some shit like that.. I was at the show.
@patrickthadude So Eric Bischoff was at this ppv? Weird, but makes total sense. I seen that "where the big boys play" I was hoping for an answer from someone who was actually at the show like you. Thanks
@patrickthadude Thats awsome that you were there that night...Hey, I always wanted to know; @ the very end when Davey boy comes out...What actually happened?...Did a bunch of 5 ft 4 WWF officials just escort him back to the locker room?...Or did it really come off as "legit"?
HBK was a prick back then but without it I doubt he would of got to the top, nice guys finish last as far as Vince is concerned.
Shawn is the greatest to of ever stepped into the ring, he was great on the mic because that was genuinely what he was like back then, you can have all the talent in the world eg. John Morrison and Shelton Benjamin but you will be ignored by Vince unless you make him take notice.
It's a shame but if you're a small talented guy it is the only way for Vince to notice
I was actually there for this one when I was 12. Me and a friend went down there, having gone to a Raw event without buying tickets in advance, and found there were no tickets. Having been dropped off by my mom, we stood out in the rain since we didn't have cel phones back then and after about an hour a guy let us in with thrown away stubs he found. They don't show it, but Michaels stripped down and showed the crowd his ass with the belt blocking his front.
WWF started hurting really bad at this point. The reason why Hall and Nash left was because WCW was giving them way more money then the WWF was willing to give them. When Hall and Nash left then the WWF started to sink. Razor and Diesel were such a big part of the WWF, it was a mistake to let them go.
@PopCulture20 Not right after they left. People tend to only remember the good things. WWF didn't start getting good until late 1997. It was very lame in 1996 and most of 1997 when Hall and Nash were in WCW. Who knows if there would be an Attitude Era if Hall and Nash stayed. The Attitude Era was born because the NWO was kicking WWF's ass in the ratings and they needed to do something drastic.
@Macca1969 That's true. WCW did play a huge role in WWE changing it's format. I didn't think 1996 & 1997 was that bad because I mostly focused on the athleticism of the matches rather than the storylines.
@alansalt i dont think it was hurtin at this point.. this was probably one of my favorite years : ) love 96 era! guess u can only appreciate it if u were watchin it at the time !
@alansalt No, it was still capable of beating WCW. Nash and Hall jumped ship because WCW was offering more money, and they're greedy pricks - particularly Nash.
TNA iMPACT! that's the place to be, that's where it all happens... The action, the drama, the excitment, the thrills... TNA iMPACT! on Monday Nights 9/8c at SpikeTV head-to-head with that crappy show called RAW!

How many times can Vince say "We said No Holds Barred but we didn't mean this". God, I hated him as an announcer.

OMG, I knew Diesel was leaving for WCW so he couldn't win, but after that power bomb I thought, maybe not!

Why is the ref counting them out at 4:24? It's no Hold Barred. It can only end in pin or submission.

@bolso4 Not everyone liked HBgay then. The way WWE promoted him back then was ridiculous. Worse than when everything was about hogan!!!

Yeah you're right. People loved to hate Shawn as a charismatic heel. I hated Shawn as a face. It was so great when he went back vs. Hogan in 2005.
