  • A gauss gun is not a coil gun...

  • whata the longest range it can travel?

  • 0:31 THAT'S what you call a floppy disk.

  • how long did it take you to knit the brick ?

    (nice weapon btw)

  • lol poor potato, it got raped >_<

  • "It's not brave, it's murder."

  • potato murder

  • care to show us some schematics?

  • Mr. Potato - PWNT

  • wait.... is this a gauss gun or a coil gun? because they are two entirely different things...

  • Head potato shot

  • try shooting your hand with it. guarentee it would be #1 on youtube. it would put justin bieber to shame.

  • think how hard a potatoe is compared to the flesh of a human being...this thing could seriously fuck someone up. He should manufacture some projectiles that are sharp and have some sort of guiding veins in them. then he should see how far he can snipe with them!

  • Please upload the schematics of this coil gun on Instructibles. com

  • DIE POTATOE

  • @DerSchaddan -click- not today....

  • @DerSchaddan Nooooo!

  • where did you get those capacitors????????

  • am makeing a coil gun and i need some help how many compasitors did u use and how many volts did they use please help me bc i want this to look like yours and do that same damage it did like yours if u can just text me and tell me in it 254-541-7516

  • Potato - Boon HEADSHOT

  • holy shit u killed a potato!!!

  • STOP SHOOTING THE HELPESS POTATOES!!! XD

  • Shoot your little brother with it next time.

  • nice little potato mess to clean up lol

  • Poor potatoe^^

  • 10 Gamerscore-- Hot Potat0wned

  • @masterdeathify lol ok Gordon

  • slomo be annoying.

  • POTATO WIN!!!

  • Potato HEADSHOT

  • This is amazing if its real.

  • witzig!!! =)

  • thats wat the potato get for touchin the boss' daughter

  • POTATO ABUSER [= anyways that's awesome

  • interesting way to make mashed potatoes heh. although very nice fires well with the size of the projectile ive only seen smaller sized used.

  • i now wat im makin if govermont takes our guns

  • As I understand this little beast is single-stage right? What if make 3 or 4-stage with 1.7KJ each?

  • could u send me plans?leave a msg on my channel

  • Wow, now I'm glad I live in the good old U.S. of A, where we have self-defence laws that say, "If he's got a gun, you can kill him"

  • @ohdudeyeah Thats incomplete, "If he's got a gun, you can kill him. Every one can have a gun."

  • interesting and if i may say very original way to make potato chips :D

  • RIP Mr.Potato

  • 0:39 oh my GOD! you hurt a POTATO! T.T YOU MONSTER !!!! XD

  • nice. what's the muzzle velocity?

  • Good question. 57.32 m/s if that's the same as the output velocity. I assume it is. I'd like to see the net energy on impact.

  • @schrodingersplatte I assume he added that to the description after I asked.

that's not too far from handgun speeds at about 300. factor 3-5 increase would make it lethal. but then again what good are guns..

  • A Gauss gun and a coil gun are 2 different things.

A Gauss gun accelerates a projectile by use of permanent magnets,

and a coil gun by use of electrically magnetized coils.

at least it think that was the difference

  • @ConnorXV you should study before saying this is fake

  • I'm gunna make one with a capacitor bank of 5 1500uF and 400V capacitors.

    That's 15000 J. Will it be possible?

Id' have to use a huge bullet and coil.

  • this machine is a good cooker nice job

  • how well do you think this would work for home defense?

  • @theandyherbert How well would you do in court explaining why someone has a hole through them?

  • well if some one broke into your house wouldent you shoot them what if they were going after your family?

  • @cerib12345 Depending on your nationality you may not have to. In the united states in a good number of states you wouldnt need to at all, and in some states, you simply need to shoot from a corner of a room.

  • @cerib12345 that is to say, from a point in the room through which there is no immediate exit except through person you shoot. [they do have to be armed in a small majority of states but not all]

  • I live in the UK and unfortunately, even if someone is robbing your house and scaring your family, you have little to no rights. If you attempt to stop them, in some cases they can get you back for assault. There was one case lastyear of that infact. A burgler was terrorising someones family whilst taking their belongings, the father attacked the person and the father got sent to prison for it.

  • @cerib12345 now thats just illogical.

  • @Xenophobia777 Illogical but true my friend. Unfortunately some things just blatently need revising.

  • @cerib12345 Yeah, similar screwed up system in Canada. If you have a baseball bat next to your bed or something for a "just in case" type thing, and you are assaulted in your sleep, if you attack the robber with the bat, it isn't considered self-defense because you planned to hit him (because you put the bat there on purpose), so you'd be charged with assault for defending yourself. ridiculous lol.

  • This video sucks ass because you don't even show the fucking gun. Never make another video.

  • Ma che gusto c'è a sparare ad una patata????

  • sweet..

  • mash potatoes with a coilgun!

  • i cant tell if this is a positive or negative comment...lol

  • potatowned.

  • That would make a nice sniper

  • ah you bitch... ur suppose to show the gun!!!

  • something tells me you should be conducting these "experiments" at a shooting range! xD

  • poor patato..never saw it coming....

  • JayceMeredith, my heart is with you when I saw this public execution. The guy created coldbloodedly a dead potato! That's pure cruelty to vegetables!

    ;-))

  • R.I.P. potatoes......

  • i can't believe he didn't show the gun >O

  • a potatoes worst nightmare...>=(

  • why the >=( face? are you a potatophile?

  • it is a fake video, there is not the coil gun

  • oh yeah so what shoots the projectile

    ?

  • lol your workbench is full of potatoe juice :P

  • where is gun?!

  • o_O

  • can i have some instructions?

  • yh impressive but can we see the apparatus ?

  • if this (0:34) was a hard disk platter that shooter is awesome: i smashed one with a f**kin hammer several times and didnt get it broken

  • hey man there is anywhere where i can download ur project?

  • poor potato

  • The potato! Why!!!!! D:

  • xDD

  • Is that a Games Workshop hobby vice?

  • Now he's training for real life warhammer :P

  • xD lol

  • o.o the slugs are huge

  • I already have a coilgun, but im going to add some capacitors for making a 30 capacitor bank, here is my question: would there be any problem by conecting them just like that or do I have to add it some resistors or something??

    if anyone know, please answer

  • talk about a floppy disk

  • Lol i can just imagine them bringing that huge thing to the battlefeild and owning everything

  • modern weapons are still too effective. maybe one day though...

  • yeah maybe one day when we run out of gun powder lol.

  • Lol, this guns will shoot faster and it would be cheaper to produce the ammo.

  • Oh how I love physics.......

  • 32 grams=493.835467 grains, thats a heavy slug

  • i want it !

  • lets just wait unitl they are going to be much smaller and powerfull and used by the military =D

  • good god, what did the potatoes ever do you people!? did a friend die of french frie poisoning?

    joking.

  • they're just good targets hehe... But speaking of it, yes, i dont like potatoes xD

  • smaller projectile does not mean more speed what it means is less kinetic energgy.more amps or more turns on coil will do the trick

  • wonder how well it'd work with some large ball bearings.

  • i dont know anything about these i was just thinking a smaller projectile like a .22

would require less power to fire or use the same power but fire the smaller projectile at greater speeds then the heavier one having the same effect on cans, but with greater speed/range and less recoil?

  • Yes.

  • god, be careful with that thing, you could put a hole on someone with that.

  • hey buddy try a smaller bullet, more speed even with a small object = more damage!

  • you forgot to point it depends on mass of the object too

  • didnt forget anything, im thinkin in weaponry terms. A small object at high speeds will do more damage then a larger object at slower speeds. Its called cavitation. Look at the 223. vs. the 7.56x39mm the 7.56 is bigger but the 223. does more damage (to flesh) but the 7.56 has more penetration is wood and such. if you want to take it to the extreme look at nasa's test's on micro meteors. They can make a bb size aluminum ball and have it puncture and cavatate a solid block of metal....

  • good point you've done, i just wanted to remember that impact force also has mass as a factor, but you're right, higher speed means more penetration capacity.

  • not quite what im saying..lol

  • But he's right. Higher speed + smaller projectile means more penetration.

  • could you please show that GUN in action? here i can see only the effect

  • nice gun :)

  • potatowned

  • potato get OWNED !

  • omg i wanna see the gun and not this shit

  • What gun he is just throwing the projectile JK

  • LOL!

  • how do i make one!?

  • Its pretty simple you just short out a large capacitor through an elecromagnetic coil thats around the barrel. Look up Capacitor Banks, Coil Guns, and Rail Guns. thats right rail guns... they work pretty much the same way as coil guns do, but they tend to break after a shot or two so people make the coil guns more often... But rail guns are much stronger than coil guns. I am working on a different coil shape that might get more strength though.

  • hey dude let me ask u a question do rail guns or coil gunns have any recoil this question has been bugging me lately

  • wel i think so bat soooo smal u don't see it

the coil pools at the bullet

bat the bullet also pools at the coil bat the mass of the coil is way bigger

so nu ther is olmost nu recol

    (sorry 4 my inglich)

  • Yes. Whether you're pushing with your finger or with an electromagnetic field, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

  • U do not undrestand physics. The only recoil is ur finger movin. the round is not bein pushed it is bein pulled out of the barrel. On top of that it is not a physical object moving it as with powder guns. it is energy doin the work. no practical recoil. fire one and u will understand.

  • Let me set aside your rude ignorance and put plainly your error: What you say would allow a violation of the conservation of energy and a reversal of entropy. I do not know how a gauss gun works, but for every application of force, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Resistance in a magnetic field is the same as between molecular bonds.

  • Chatspeak ftw :D

  • No recoil. Because the bullit is not being pushed it will not need something to steady it as with a powder weapon.

  • well i dont know about railguns but i have made a coilgun and there is recoil.. the coils, circuits, batteries, and capacitors are so heavy thought that they absorb most of it. unless its a really strong gun. =D

  • o ok. gress i was wrong. lolz :P

  • Actually anything that accelerates another object will experience recoil. Plain and simple.

If the projectile of a rail gun was held in place, the gun would shove itself backwards.

  • joder como mola O_O lol

  • wow 57 m/s, that's over 200 km/h

  • also, thats a big projectile, so if u put a .22 bullet in there it would probably go 5 times that

  • I wish this was real, it would be really cool.

  • it is real...O_o

  • I really would like some proof of this.

  • so.....what...this video isn't proof enough....? along with the military using the technology? you can find instrutions online

  • Can we see an actual image of the device, instead of just the object getting hit.

  • Sir... I have made several coil guns and rail guns myself I assure you they are quite real. Rail guns often break down after a mere handfull of shots due to rail erosion under the extream amperage (some in excess of 40,000 amps)while coil guns dont break down they often dont get enough speed to have an advantage over conventional fire arms. both have problems with switching mechanisims becomming welded together and the problem of charging time for the capacitor bank which powers them.

  • this experiment is fake. plain and simple. if your coil gun authentically went as fast as you claim there would be less clean damage. not to mention the fact that we never see the gun actually fired. however the biggest flaw is... COIL GUNS MAKE NO SOUND!

there is sound in the video. now railguns, they make sound, but the shots are much more spectacular. plus they do not fall to the maximum magnetic saturations that coil guns do.

  • From the point of a coil gun not needing a propellant's explosion, you're right. Yet, if the projectile actually does hit the sound barrier, you could say that even a coil gun makes sound.

  • Yes it makes sound, the projectile moves through the coils, and it does scrape against the sides

it is possibl to build a homemade gauss rifle, and i believe this

what do you thihnk hes shooting with?

  • I apologize for my previous statement, that was made in a rant. as for the scientific factors of the replies made about my previous perspective, let me explain. coil guns theoretically can break the sound barrier, but without a projectile with substantial mass, they fall victim to a issue known as magnetic saturation, where the projectile is unable to absorb any more magnetic charge. the only way to defeat this is by supercooling the components, which is nigh impossible for homebrew enthusiasts

  • I have to add for those who argue the scrapeing of the projectile against the magnetic coils, it is physically imposible to do so, as the projectile is contained within a barrel. besides this project sounded with a cacophanious explosion, not a simple scrape. for those of you who wish for coil guns to be real... WISH NO LONGER! Coil guns exist and are quite popular among the homebrew crew, rail guns too. in fact pistols, rifles, and even cannons exist of this variety.

  • Also coil guns are CONTACTLESS.

  • by sides i meant the barrel during exiting, plus the whuff of air around the projectile, although i do appreciate that you admitted being pseudo-wrong, about 5% of all YTers are capable of that

  • epicly potatowned!

  • The fact of the matter, since you fail to show the device doing the projecting, your results are, let's just say..a little suspect.

  • Well, if you go to Hacked Gadgets, i believe that you would find out that you are quite wrong. Think before you post.

  • potato owned, but show the gun!

  • Potato owned :D

  • not really, u could never fire such huge rounds from desert eagle!

  • that potato is screwed

  • Man u can make Sniper Rifle With This and go to ducks xD

  • that is crazy! you could kill someone with that. was that just useing magnets?

  • it uses a electromagnetic field (über strong one) gained by the sudden release of enormous ammounts of electric current. 7.2k uF in this case. but the current only lasts for a very short time, so that the magnetic field dissapears before the projectile has reached the middle of the EM field, therefor it continues forward at tremendous speeds.

  • that was a very long explanation but thanks. did you help this guy make it or something?

  • nope, just know how it works and i read the info on the description of the vid for the ammount of current

  • 7200 uF is the inductance of the coils, it has nothing to do with current. (though 7200 uF seems like an awful lot for just 150 turns, and since he can't use an iron core, i don't see how this is even possible.)

btw, the current can be derived from the 700V, if you would really want to know it.

  • actually your both wrong. Inductance is measured in henrys uf is for microfarads or the amount of electrons (one farad is 1 mole of electrons) the energy is 1.7kj (kilo joules) which is calculate by 1/2 * voltage ^ 2 *capacitance (in farads).

  • how does he shot web?

  • now imagine that the potato is your head...

  • If so, it needs FPS Doug screaming "BOOM HEADSHOT!"

  • loool

  • thats gay cause you can make a gun just from air and it will have more power and cheaper

  • holy mother in all that is holy i cant belive what it can do

  • POTATO! NO!!!!

  • He never shows the gun. The wood shot is my favorite.

  • This Spud's for you

    Lol

    Potato Got OWNED

  • lol look at the destructive power some one has created in thier basement!!! lol

    ITS POWERLEVEL IS OVER 9000!!!!!!
