just the way it was meant to be..better than Erik himself...hearing this brings to mind how life can be so...just like this piece...thank you for the uplaod.
@leonardo - uh yes Leo "so sick" means good. hehehe... anyway, I too love extra slow interpretations, very hard to keep it completely cohessive, my favorite though is by the French vituoso Jean-Yves Thibaudet. There's a "French" severity that is not overly Romantic mixed with clean concision that absolutely owns me when he plays Satie. I highly recommend it.
@ztrek1000 Yes, now I know. I'm not a native speaker of English, meaning that from time to time there's a lousy faux pas, like this one. I have already apologized to the author of the "so sick" comment. Thank you for directing me to Thibaudet. I'm in the process of getting a play off the ground. One of the most important scenes has Gnossienne #1 as background music. The amazing thing about Satie is how much he depends on the interpretation. I will listen to Thibaudet right away. Thanks again.
I don't mean to contest anything (I never do that in comments or replies). It's just that I got kind of astonished by the previous comment ("so sick..."). I don't think I got the meaning of it. What exactly is sick? Erik Satie? This particular piece? The pianist's interpretation? The whole damn thing? Or does the comment carry some kind of cryptographic meaning destined to members of some secret society?
@wendyxxixx Thank you. This sort of thing is always happening if you're not a native speaker of the language you're using. I really didn't know about this specific meaning of "sick". It reminds me of Ethel Barrymore making her first talking picture after many years on Broadway and, to the delight of her brother John, being furious at the cameraman who said, "OK. Bring grandmother on to the set." She thought he meant her. He meant the camera. Everybody called the camera "grandmother".
I loved Satie, so i practiced a lot and was able to play it myself. Then I heart Reinbert's Satie and i haven't played it ever since. It now feels like failing an exam. Once a month I listen to the CD at my piano and watch the keys.
I only want to listen to work of Satie if it's played by Reinbert de Leeuw.. he's the only guy that can play this stuff as it was meant by Satie.. this is truly beautiful
Why has no one commented?! I can't be the only one who has thought this. This is such a wonderful piece, I first heard it today while in art. It's absolutely beautiful and at such a tempo! I think I prefer it this slow. But in any case, you did a fantastic job with the photos. They really do well with the Satie.
végre egy verzió, ami rendes tempóban van előadva. Bravó!

I can't stand to hear this played too fast, or too slow. Every lingers on just right :)

@leonardothierry I think the comment "so sick" was meant as a compliment, it's the hip way to call something good these days.
I can't believe anyone would find this piece less than perfect. I agree about de Leeuw's interpretation as being the best out there.

@jaeastman Sorry for my clumsy comment. I really didn't know "sick" could be used that way.

@mistercharcoal Erik Satie famously left it open to what tempo this should be played. Truly beautiful it is indeed
