merkur was a german off branch of mercury they took the ford mustang 4 cyl from the mustang and completely rebuilt it retuned it boosted it and redesigned it
the xr4ti is actually one step below the cosworth but one step higher than the sierra
you are right though that the sierra is a copy because the sierra is just a shitty lower powered version of the merkur
i only know this because my good buddy matt had one and we spent some time reading up on it
@mattxxxnt so let me get this right the sierra xr4i was a copy of the merkur? the sierra xr4i were made in 1982 until 1984 running the calogne v6 2.8 until they changed to a 5 door running a 2.9 v6... my xr4i is one of the last off the production line in 84 before the change hope this helps :-) less than 250 left on the uk roads but i would be willing to swap for a mk2 escort and nothing else oldskool rules. steer from the rear.

No, it isn't. The XR4Ti was the North American version of the Sierra XR4i, although that model's 2.9L "Cologne" V6 was ditched for some reason for the 2.3L "Lima" four cylinder. The Sierra Cosworth has a 2L Cosworth YBB turbo motor, T-5 tranny, different diff, differnt brakes, different stiffening rails...as a matter of fact very little other than the doors, hatch and some trim are the same as the Merkur.

the merkur was only made from 85-89

i have a 86 with bigger turbo 3" exhaust all the way maxed it out at 298km/h.. but i can still get more power out of it if i mess with the turbo
