I'm a teacher. I get examined by OFSTED all the time to check for competence and whether I'm adding 'value' or not. I think MEPs and MPs should be checked too. For instance, they should be obliged to find out the views of their constituents and actually represent them in votes in the House. They should have to account for ALL of their time. It should be illegal for them to act for anyone who is not a constituent ie lobbyists. And they should have holidays of a specific length eg 5 weeks.

I'm writing this on the 8th of May 2010... two days after the general election, and I'm asking myself... where did all this anger and distrust go. On election day the turn out was 66%, so to my mind this means that everyone who voted played into the arms of the MP's: Every vote in effect, legitimised the system, the staus quo. MP's will now feel legitimised by the people. There should have been a nation wide boycott of voting, resulting in too low a turn out to be ratified as legitimate.
