  • I carry up to 5 plates/bowls at zios. There is absolutely nothing that makes that against health code.

  • Carrying 3 plates at once not on a tray like she did is against health code.

    Also, at most restaurants you ring all food in at once and the kitchen makes sure it all comes out at once.

    This really doesn't show you how to be a good server.

    The best thing to do is be in a good mood, be available when your table needs you, and when something goes wrong let them know so they are not confused.

    Also, always get a manager when something is wrong, even when the guest says that the manager is not needed

  • First of all. When you deliver food you say.....Here you are, does everything look perfect? yes? Awesome. Is there anything else I can get you? No? Great. Well if there is anything else you need just let me know, enjoy folks. You need to make your guests feel welcome and like you truely care about their experience. These tips are Ok at best for some big boob bimbo waiting high tops in some sports pub. But for us servers that make GOOD money. I don't suggest watching these videos.

  • I'd just like to point out that this waitress makes average tips. You can tell because she wasn't personable at all. She made it very clear that her job is just to bring your food. This is not how you make money in this field. You need to treat the people like you know them and actually care about them. If you are a good server, you actually do care about them.

    I hate the new age of everything on screen and no paper tickets. Back in the day, there were paper tickets with the trays or food or whatever.

    It's nice to be able to see special instructions or know that there are any when the food goes out.

One of my favorite canards is the "always serve to the left and pull from the right". Unless pretention is the restaurant's thing, this is nonsense. You serve to and pull from the customer in whatever way is least disruptive of what is going on at the table. If we're in a "date" situation for example, I'm not going to break eye contact between the 2 to serve or pull "correctly"

  • dude i work at a 5 star restarant. you never use trays. you use food runners and seat spots so they can hand off the food. trays get dirty and and stands wear out. small trays are good for drink service and bussing tables but run them through the dish washer after being used for busing.

  • first of all i work at a nice (non chain) restaurant and we carry a lot of wine, but also realize we are in minnesota. o yea and if you want something other than wine for dinner (most people do) we have a huge diverse menu...
