Juste... Magnifique. Quelques notes, et c'est partie pour l'une des musiques les plus touchantes que j'ai pu entendre... A l'entendre, j'en ai des frissons, j'en pleure.
A modern audience deadened by all the empty bang and flash of the trash being passed off as cinema would never sit through such an amazing film of quiet beauty. I saw it when it first came out at a local "art theater" and loved it and immediately located the awesome soundtrack. Just watched it recently and was still mesmerized by it. Harry Dean Stanton is among a short list of actors I'd want to work with were I a director. People of short attention spans don't know what they are missing.
A brilliant movie. It covers a lot of psychological ground, acknowledging pain and damage while also offering redemption along with a sense of wonder. And that makes for good art.
I don't like that the intro gets a little implausible when the guy in the expensive suit shows up walking in the middle of the desert, but other than that I absolutely love this music, it is so evocative...and the movie is very good overall too
@javialacarga Implausible? Well yes, but I think you're looking at it wrong. Most movies, you know everything that going to happen after the first two minutes. This movie's not like those.
Here, they come at things from a different angle and ask for your imagination. The themes in this movie speak to the subconscious.
@bornwithoutwarning I just meant that the contrast caused by "guy in a suit walking in the middle of the desert" seems a bit forced to me. Other than that I agree with you, this is an outstanding film.
I watched this movie in 1985. I was 10 years old and changed my ticket in cinema because I liked movie's name "Paris-TExas". After that day, I saw cinema can be a great art.
I just picked up a stack of Criterion disks. Now I'm perusing their blu's and out of all the previews I saw.. I want to see this.
Seriously, Criterion FTW! Even if they give film fanatics a keyhole view of cinema as a whole.. they only end up doing so because they're the one company that approaches the production of a film's reprinting with a similar enthusiasm as the film's original creators. They just kill at making landmark disks! I love this company, and want a t-shirt.
One of my favourite films with a great soundtrack although I acknowledge that some people find the film boring (girlfriend included). Each to their own...I suppose
Lembro que iste foi o primeiro filme explicativo em minha escola de cinema. Explicavam o que era o travelling com as primeiras cenas, as tomadas dende o helicóptero. Que lembranças!
Tremendous film winning the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984/5? Nastassia Kinski and Harry dean Stanton produce some gripping scenes Also Tom Farrell as the `screaming man`..Ry Cooders guitar playing also atmospheric (played with Captain Beefheart!!)
TBH: I actually do live in Paris, Texas...

I hate giving a single second of my precious time up for this heap of trash.
I don't care how much subtext it has or the beautifully framed camera shots.
It's boring as f***!!!!!

The intro of this film ranks right up there with that of the Leone masterpiece Once upon a time in the west.
It's art.
