those steps on the handle are done by machine no hands are used becuase of computers if you would like to see the awesomeness of a 5 axes cnc machine at work watch?v=1p-nTYKPo_I also any metal can have a mirror polish on them with the right tool or equpment
Damn that polish is awesome! Looks like some Terminator 2 liquid metal, are you sure microtech didn't collaborate with cyberdyne on this knife? Perhaps they will call the production version the t-1000 lol jk, badass blade, love the videos.
@CkassifiedKill007 I'll finally make my point and stop bothering you with this one Sir. I think that what really does matter is that these fine knives exist and that we have the opportunity to collect, use, and appreciate them; whether or not the CEO is a douche bag, a really decent guy with a great talent to make knives, a horrible person to do business with, or even possibly all three. I respect the mans work and since that's as close as I'll ever get to him he'll enjoy spending my money long
@ClassifiedKill007 by the makers own two hands. I agree that I've never heard a good thing about Tony seniors business sense or the CS over at MT. That doesn't take away from the fact that they ABSOLUTELY make the best automatic production knifes out there, their existence has changed what we expect from an auto, to me that means a lot. You and Kirk both make good points in your discussion and I agree with both of you. My opinion is that whether it is truly a custom in your opinion or a heavily
@CkassifiedKill007 I wholeheartedly believe that a CNC could easily make the handle of this fine knife as well as cut the basic blade. I also believe that a CNC with the right tooling and the proper program could probably cut the blade in it's entirety but then you'd be talking about a machine that's out of the reach of most small businesses. I don't pretend to know what they use over at MT or how much of this Element was done by hand. What I do have to say is that if it's a limited " productio
Ah, no worries. I am doing fine. Tony would definitely outshine many other companies if he would just get his shit together and stop being so paranoid, pay his vendors, actually care about his customers, treat his employees better and actually let them do their job. He has a great ability to make a good product, but has absolutely no business abilities. Again, if he would just let his employees do their job...
They actually made 100 of these. They were all machined on the CNC machines at their Bradford, PA plant and there was nothing custom or hand made about them. Tony Sr. sharpened and polished the blades, but does that make it custom? As a matter of fact... this is how all of their knives are made. They are great knives, but they are ALL production... not custom. This may be sad news for some of you Microtech junkies, but this is fact.
Ridiculous claim. There is no way the contoured grind on my SnG is anything other than hand ground. You just joined today. Interesting how this is your very 1st action as a new user with all this supposed "insider" news. Tony would lose his reputation by misleading the public into believing his blades are hand ground when they are not. Also, good luck finding a DOUBLE-EDGE, not single, Microtech Element now. They just aren't as abundant.
I used to work for Microtech. I worked there when he was making this very knife. It's sad that you and so many others think that you are spending a ridiculous amount of money for a custom knife. Just because I joined today means nothing. Since I worked for them I just wanted to see what other kind of lies they are spreading. You will believe what yo want because you are a "Microtech follower," but you have still purchased a production "machined" knife. I assure you... they are NOT hand made.
Check out the SnG. There is a fine sloping effect to the grind. Anyway, other than Microtech I enjoy Mike Snody and Jeff Harkins work. Joe Kious and Howard Hitchmough one day.
Yea the SNG was a cool knife. Unfortunately Tony made without the permission of Strider and thus the reason it didn't go into production. All of the grinds on the blades are made with a machine in Bradford called the Berger Grinder. I have seen the work of the guys you mentioned and they do great work. I wasn't trying to diss on your knife... I just know that nothing is really custom from Microtech although they do make a very good product. I am no longer there because Tony Sr. is insane.
Sorry to hear this. Well..... you'll find your niche elsewhere. Tony has some integrity, or else he would have never established a company and product associated with excellence. A brand that generally adds considerable value to any knife owners' collection-- especially the pre-Bradford stuff.
@ClassifiedKill007 how come thier customer service sucks, they don't answer emails. and I doubt they have a parts dept, If something goes wrong with your knife good luck getting parts
Interesting about there being only 4 made. I was told there were 5 made and for the record, I have #030. Yes, a beautiful knife and what you didn't mention is that being made of stainless rather than aluminum like the production OTFs, it really has a lot of mass.....feels really good and substantial in your hand. Enjoy!
That is the sweetest microtech that I have ever seen!!!!! The polish appears flawless as does the grind. The handle is the best looking stainless that they have put out. I thought that my old school Microtech collection was sweet but yours is in another catagory my friend. This vid will make me troll through the rest of your vids to see if this is the center piece of your collection or for you just one of many rare and awesome blades. Gonna have to fav this one. Dn I miss my blades!!!!!
Not really that kind of knife my friend. Strictly to be seen from an angle of appreciation-- to be admired by someone who also enjoys collecting knives as an art form. Some knives are what collectors refer to as "investment pieces". I'll use an EDC for every day cutting.
Thank you man. By the way, you have a nice channel-- and we also share many of the same interests. Knives and Metal....... that in itself is worth a sub.
From a guy who would cease doing business if I ever plugged his name.
But I could be wrong about the rarity piece. Bladehq claims they are getting in identical double-edge Elements. Time will only tell. One things certain, Microtech is among the toughest of all blade manufacturers to read.
