The government needs to spend quite a lot to overcome the cost benefits the industry gets from outsourcing it's production. And it won't only limit the stuff that get assembled overseas. What about f.e. car parts? So a lot of US-based production will get more expensive also. So it will backfire and only hit the economy even more.

So really Reagan hardly had anything to do with leading the country, rather it was just a natural growth in the economy. Do you also remember that Reagan left office with the largest national debt in that era? I compared our current situation to the depression to emphasize that a quick fix is not possible when it comes to the economy, and progress is minimal.

This is due to Obama's failed policies - the "stimulus" bill, Shovel-Ready, extreme wasteful spending, excess bail-outs, etc. That's not Bush's fault, because Obama passed those failed policies. So don't blame Bush for what Obama did.
And yes, we do need domestic production. All we need to do is put tariffs on foreign goods, so our companies will make things here, and not outsource.

There's always the other side that has to be compromised with. ARRA was a joke. The republicans limited the investment, as well as the taxcuts, ergo: nothing happened. The bailouts were all Obama? bullshit. Bush bailed out the banks. The crisis happened under Bush and the bailout of the auto-industry was in the slipstream of that.

One needs to invest to get out of debt. Exporting goods you say? Which goods? Everything is made in China. Creating jobs? You can do that by stimulating industries. Not people who make a lot of money in those industries. And the Bush strategy of creating ineffective government jobs didn't help anyone.

@SegaShadowsWrath As for production, don't mess up the global market. Forcing US industries to make their products here will make those products much more expensive. The government needs to spend quite a lot to overcome the cost benefits the industry gets from outsourcing it's production. And it won't only limit the stuff that get assembled overseas. What about f.e. car parts? So a lot of US-based production will get more expensive also. So it will backfire and only hit the economy even more.

@afterray TheUS uses more natural resources than any other country, but pays relatively very little for the stress it has on the earth, compared to f.e. the European countries. The Americans still pay less than what we paid for gas 4 years ago. And that with all the huge 4 liter cars you are used to have. And of course I'm not saying that all Americans are stupid. But is says a lot that those idea's actually enjoy support from a decent amount of people in the US.
