Your video is very respectful and shows a great deal of personal culture. For myself, I found out that religion has to do with the same emotional strings than scams. For example, I can imagine there once was a man named Jesus who died for his philosophy and maybe for some mental illness like schizophrenia, but all the fairy tale written around him is pure invention the same way that there is a CEO named Bill Gates but he will never share his fortune with people spreading a chain of letters.
You've heard people talk about it. Heard people argue about it. Read articles describing it. Now only on Youtube for the first time ever, see the Real Garden of Eden. This is no joke. God left His Watermark of it and I found it on Google Earth. It's a MUST SEE- Look at my videos and see the wonderful things I've discovered.
A healthy relationship with a theist depends entirely on the capacity to accept worldviews that conflict with their own. The fire and brimstoners cannot and will not accept anything that doesn't perfectly fit their pinched view of existence. Such is the intolerance intrinsic to their belief system.
Others are able to peacefully co-exist with atheists as long as you steer away from the sensitive subjects.
I have followed tou, and seen some of your videos.
As an atheist, in a country where it's forbidden to ask someone about their beliefs, when hiring them for work, or any other situation where belief have nothing to do with the persons ability to perform a task.
It's not easy to see, how hard it must be for you, to break away, and maintain a good relation with your family.
Yeah, I think you are right. If you were raised Christian, it is easier to understand where Believers are coming from but a lot of talking with/being around Christians might help. It's the same as understanding any culture, it takes time.
"How Atheists Can Understand Believers " they have invisible friends that they think are real. Most the rest is window dressing. Not much more to it aside from some hand waving and what not.
I totally agree with you Shwanerd but I honestly don't agree with what some atheist say such as "well some people need religion" and my response is always "I don't believe that at all. I don't need it" and they say "but some people do" and my responds is always "no, they don't" I just can't see how that is true. There are millions of people dying from AIDS and they don't need a god, yet Mr.First world industrial cloud 9 douchbag needs it?
Hitchen's has cancer, he doesnt need a god, yet Mr./Mrs. I have no cancer need a god??? They can easily get comfort and such from a non-supernatural source. It's because of religion that some people need it, if religion didnt fucking exist, everyone would get comfort and such through all kinds of real things. So I don't understand that argument at all.
Your view on it totally matches, what religion is: Ignorance, childishness, result of psychological misunderstandings of reality. Religion is lowering down to the degree of "symptoms of backwardedness".
Studying the Bible and Christian history will mislead you when it comes to understanding Christians. The psychology of modern Christians is varied and different from historical Christianity.
@zarkoff45 Can you suggest a few good channels? I only ever seem to encounter nutjobs like shockofgod. I have a fairly good idea of why this is, relative to the things I search for, but that said, I'm not really sure where to look.
@monkeytube138 "suggest a few good channels?" TogetherForPeace - (currently not making videos, but his backlog is instructive) My videos on him: watch?v=6a_NpaRVB_o watch?v=Z9oT9ieyLEU jezuzfreek777 - (a really arrogant and condescending know it all but instructive of what his beliefs are like) SisterSunshineTV (recently went Buddhist) thereprieve (Vlogs on having had a religious experience - currently not making videos) watch?v=zahFKGVpQGg PeaceInChristAlone
Willful ignorance. When so much info is available, at our fingertips, varifiable and extremely informative, and they still cling to their ancient fairytales that don't make any sense, they are willfully stupid.
Good video. It's far easier for us to today to take a step back and take a more measured rational view on faith. The knowledge we've gained in science, and how the world works is something past generations didn't have, so it would be stand to reason they would put all their eggs in the "faith and belief" basket. Why do people still believe in god in todays modern society?.. Indoctrination.
Sorry, I cut listening to your video short, but I think you totally missed FactVsReligions message. I don't mean to offend, but you are young and naive. I have dealt with this since I was 10, I am now 60, my mother is almost 80. It has gotten to the point where when my mother calls I will not pick up the phone. The reason is that the unresolved issues of our differences in belief cannot be resolved without harm to her. I am not good for her -- and now I GET IT.
I'm sorry that your situation has reached such a stalemate. My mother used to be as much of a evangelical as I was (where do you think I got it from?) but because I've been able to be honest with her over these past few years, things have gotten better. She's increasingly liberal or "moderate" about her beliefs, and talking about religion is getting to be easier and easier with time. I can't presume to know your situation, but this video explains what has worked for me.
@ShwaNerd I am talking about a relationship that spans 5 decades. That is twice as old as you are, so you talking about how your mother used to be puts a smile on my face. Especially since you've only been an atheist a few years. I have been an atheist from before I knew there was such a thing; I went to Sunday school not understanding that the "teachers" actually believed the stories they were telling me. My mother has known I am an atheist from the day I learned the word. (continued)
Also, I wonder how you mean you're "not good" for her, because if thats entirely based on your atheism, then I don't think that's accurate. HER religious beliefs (I assume are very conservative) are what stand in the way; intolerance of disbelief and awful notions like Hell all come from her side of things; that can't be your fault. And I wouldn't blame her either; the poisonous ideas she was indoctrinated with are to blame.
@ShwaNerd My mother has never tried to change me or convert me, but there are significant exceptions I take to her beliefs. When I point out the murder of someone I respect, and her response is "but he was just an atheist," I take what that implies about me very seriously. But to impress upon her that significance would hurt her deeply and permanently, and THAT is "not good for her."
I'm sure that would not be "good" for her emotionally, but still, it ain't your fault! The situation can be extremely frustrating but I just wouldn't want you to blame yourself at all for it, because you haven't done anything wrong (and still wouldn't be "wrong" for being honest with your mother). IF you were able to talk to her about it, this would just go further to show her how needlessly harmful religion is.
@ShwaNerd I'm not assigning blame. There is no fault. And there is no IF. I have talked, argued, and condemned religion to my mother in orders of magnitude more than you could have with yours. If I were able to show my mother how harmful religion is, I would be willfully causing her harm, not helping her.
What I think you don't get about FactsVsRelgion's video is that it is titled "I GET IT" not "I don't get it." I think she has come to a deeper realization than you give her credit for.
Reading the bible really only has two possible outcomes: insanity or atheism. It's impossible, in my opinion, to read the whole thing and reconcile its internal contradictions and direct contravention of all observable reality without losing one's grip on reality. Most of the flock never reads it, and the clergy would in general rather they didn't, which is more than a little evidenced by the dark ages Catholic church. So many clergy by their behavior show their lack of belief or insanity.
@renegade4dio The thing about beliefs is that once you accept one, it makes you ignore everything that contradicts your faith. You tell yourself that even if it doesn't really make sense to you there's probably a good explanation somewhere.
@DarkEmergence I identify with ShwaNerd in several key ways: I was raised Christian by a mother who believes quite strongly, though not nearly as fundamentalist as he describes his mother. I was totally enthralled until about the same age. Church camp, Sunday school, altar boy, tithing, etc. Then I actually read the bible. It was the beginning of the end. Then came the Koran, and holy and secular texts regarding Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and others. (continues...)
@DarkEmergence (continued) The point is that to continue down the Christian path became impossible for me. More normal Christians choose the drop of insanity, the willful ignorance of reality and assumption that "there's a good answer somewhere, I have no need to find it". That IS insanity. When they go further, they must reject more and more of reality to cover for their faith which leads them further and further into insanity. Eventually you get Phelps, bin Laden, and countless others.
O.O There are people who don't care about Star Trek?!!!!
I know some of us like Star Wars more, but surely there's nobody who doesn't care at all about Star Trek.
Maybe they just haven't watched it. I know somebody who hasn't seen the Star Wars movies, and I mean the real ones, not that sorry ass cgi crap with Jar Jar....What a shallow meaningless life she must lead...

The reason it's hard to understand is because in many cases there is often a good bit of self-hypnosis involved:
watch?v=kOShyThLhrQ
And projection:
watch?v=KAQ91DB329Y
Watch enough Christian videos and you'll begin to see a picture emerge. But keep in mind, there is not just one type of Christian.
