  • A government should: invest and spend in a recession, save and pay off during an economic boom.

That is literally not rocket science. The hard bit is to be able to balance the government's budget on a long term when there are hidden variables.

  • The presenter or anchor or whatever he is, is he pausing so much to read the teleprompter or is it for dramatic effect? I really can't tell. Either way, it's pretty terrible...in general.

Only watch this to hear what Hari had to say.

  • Tale of two cities, France and England? What? England isn't even a sovereign country politically. US news really need to sort their shit out when it comes to geography.

  • @Coolguyrob2006 Everyone with half a brain cell knows that the UK was set up by England to occupy Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. At least Americans are honest about it. The sooner the illegal UK entity is disbanded the better.

  • I think she's just cold

  • This is surprisingly left-wing for an American news broadcast. And the two MSNBC employees are surprisingly incompetent. I guess Murdoch can afford the better presenters...

  • @badsushichef

I don't know anything about Dylan Ratigan but on the evidence of this vid alone his ability to present a news programme is quite lacking. The same could be said of the female correspondent in France, who I mistakenly described as an MSNBC employee (having checked I see that she works for Newsweek).

Anyway, I didn't mean "left wing" as an insult by any means, I was in fact pleasantly surprised that a major American news network takes that approach.

  • @ammadeus88 Dylan Ratigan is by no means a good presenter. But by comparison to most "infotainment" presenters in this country, he's quite good at presenting factual analysis. I did not take left wing as an insult, quite the contrary.

  • Was this a party political broadcast for the Johann Hari Socialist Workers Party?

  • wow, american news sucks

  • @rachied123 American news does suck. But to be fair, this is a news "show", and not a straight news program, so he can be as opinionated as he wants. Also, before he got this show, his prior tv experience was mostly financial & economic analysis, scripted mostly by CEO ass kissers. So, yeah.

  • @badsushichef fair enough!

  • Western deficit spending is over. We lost our debt credibility, we won't be able to borrow anymore. Whether you supported it before today or you opposed it, the western progressive agenda is dead. Unfunded.

  • Don't kid yourself. Keeping people on benefits was always part of the agenda. Keep people poor and deprived. There is now going to be more people on benefits after these cuts.

  • Why does this guy keep pausing between words? Like the autocue is going slow?

Johann is great. We are pissed off in the UK and I wish we would stand up like the French.

  • There's not "no uproar" in the UK. We're outraged, frankly, but the 2003 anti-war demo showed how little the UK government takes notice of street demonstrations. We're organising now to make an effective democratic & legal response. This coalition won't be around for long.

  • Johann. Your brilliance is betrayed by your lies. This is Michael Moore stuff.

Sideline: Love how Paris and the Independent become equals.

MSNBC = Fox News for those that want to feel morally superior.

Johann Harri = C Hitchens without the honesty or charisma. Still, that's far better than most get.

  • @OneBigRetard Hi, I found your comment interesting. I was wondering, if you had the time, could you tell me what lies Johann Hari has been saying?

  • What I particularly like about that video is how long they leave the map of Europe on-screen, not much confidence in their viewers' geography? Anchor could do with learning how to read an autocue.

  • I disagree with her that the rioting is bad for the movement of the people. The problem is there isn't ENOUGH rioting!! If everyone started rioting then it would damn well be the best adn only way to overthrow this bullshit corporatocracy we live under.

  • The reason no-one is demonstrating is because the majority of people in England think the cuts are necessary, though perhaps a little too fast/deep. No-one is "dazed" except the people who thought they'd get a life on benefits come good times or bad.

  • Great job Johann. I was actually politically ambivalent about the cuts, thought that something needed to be done and we should all share the pain, but you've as usual clarified the issue and swung me to your argument. Thanks again.
