As a courier in the 90s I rode fixed simply because it was so much easier to maintain my bike! I had ridden mountain and road at work for a few years before I finally got tired of all the maintainence, brake pads (when you weigh 150 pounds and ride all day in the rain your $15 brake pads are history by 5pm), cables, tuning, and I was never the worlds best mechanic, riding a track bike (a KHS with the crooked seat tube, remember them?) was really hard at first, I raced track too but it was great!

The BHF ride is every year, this was just me and a group of friends riding there.

@Wswany I'm not sure when the next BHF ride will be - it's usually mid June I think.

This video is a bunch of my friends riding to Brighton - not BHF related. The BHF ride gets VERY congested and you end up walking a fair bit. Much better to just get a few mates together and ride there yourself! :-)
