No, they won. And they were Americans. In the document(Declaration of Independence) they state in the last paragraph that they bestowed upon themselves the power of a free state(from England).
As to the Treaty of Paris comment, we are thanking them for accepting that we are now our own independent state. It is like saying "thank you with sugar on top", we weren't actually going to "put sugar on top".
@waddle200x 1. America lost the War of Independence - True or false? Before you answer “false”, check out the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1783 signed by the United States and Great Britain. You will find in articles 4, 6 and 12 that America won the War Of Dependence, not the War of Independence. By signing the Treaty, America signed on to a permanent debt to the King of England and to his successors including today’s British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
the British won the war of independance. at the time the "americans" were fighting it they were British. they only got their independance after they won so technically the Brits won.
Vermonters brought the war to the Brittish in the first major battle of the Revolution in 1775, the invasion of Quebec. We weren't even a state yet. Ethan Allen got his ass kicked but later went south, Fort Ticonderoga New York... :) and took the fort from the Brit's. Drank all their ale for three days, and told Benedict Arnold to "F" himself and bring the canon to General Washington himself. Real Vermonters think Massachussetts is too far south! Peace Reb!

I'm glad America won. They deserved it, as they fought for what they believed in, unlike Britain who fought for power.

@pyro999maniac "they only got their independance after they won so technically the Brits won."
We declared ourselves Americans before the main fighting began.
Hell, during the French and Indian war, British would refuse to see American colonials as their equals.
