very unexpected moment in sports history........but the greatest
i see comments about the 2010 olympics.......i am an american but i was never angry at canada for winning the gold because i am not like that i am glad usa won a medal.......they won the most medals actually.... but USA can be good as well like Canada
I'm Canadian... but... the US (in a sport they care little about) took down the USSR (who thought they had the best team in the world) on the biggest stage in the world....
They had a Great Showing and should be proud of their Silver Medal. Even if they had won the Gold it still could not compare to 1980-These Guys are Pros those were collage kids.Nothing in my lifetime will match 1980
This year was not a failure. No one expected them to make the Medal Round or compete for the Gold- They Beat the Canadians once and a bounce of a puck could have done it again. USA Hockey can stand proud.
we had twice as many shots as you when we lost, and the difference in the game was the difference between miller and brodeur, and if you ain't first you're last, so yes, this was a fail, a double fail, because our women beat you too
lol, you played the Yanks twice and neither time could you beat them in regulation. But look who's talking tough.
Wouldn't be surprised if Crosby went up to Miller and said, "listen man, you know how many people in this country will kill themselves if Canada loses? You want that blood on your hands? Then let me get one by" haha
well unfortunately in a gold medal game you dont get 1 point for losing in overtime, a loss is a loss... and you make an excellent point, many people in Canada would have been terribly devastated if we had of lost, which is why had this tournament been played elsewhere, USA would have never had a chance, its tough to play when you have everything to lose, and the US had everything to gain, but like always, we prevailed and showed you whose game it is once again
Canada shows that any nation can be great at a sport if that's the only sport they care about and the only they work at. Any nation. And anyways aren't those Canadian players going back to the states to play for American teams in American cities? How strange is it that after becoming national heroes, they have to leave Canada so soon and play for non-Canadian teams? Next time, we shouldn't release them to go to the olympics. hehe.
that makes no sense considering we won 14 gold medals in skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, curling, bobsleigh, and hockey, doesnt really sound like 1 sport to me... and how does the fact that they play for american teams make any difference, ryan kessler plays for the canucks, phil kessell plays for the leafs, some of our players play for canadian teams... your comments get more stupid everytime
congrats it took the US 5 years to put together a team that could beat Canada at the world juniors... your bound to have a better team than Canada at some point with such a small age group... and I just said that having the tournament in Canada is a disadvantage for our team because of the pressure thats put on them
it should be mistaken, not mistaking... but I suppose you can't expect much better from your average American jarhead, not the brightest bunch in the world, and Im sorry but I dont respect silver, or bronze, I only respect gold, and I respect very much the 14 our wonderful country got
gold is everything, if you can realistically achieve it, and I can, and have, and will continue to do so, and I guarantee I have already accomplished much more in my life than you will ever hope to do so please stop trying to chirp me, and just accept my original claim about your failing country
Buddy, look, settle down. No need to be so rude; it's almost un-Canadian. We can be gracious winners, you know.
We Canadians like to point to our international reputation for courtesy; I am afraid that seems to be slipping a bit. Some Canadians like to think among ourselves that Americans are arrogant blow-hards. There's no need to act like one yourself, buddy.
I'm as patriotic a Canadian as they come, but I gotta agree with you. There was nothing in the US team's performance that merits scorn. rabirdoos needs to switch to decaf, I think.
Great pics and the music gives it the emotion it deserves. And people have said its one of the greatest upsets ever, lets be real people it is the greatest upset ever bar none nothing even comes close because it was amatuers vs the pros and the kids won. Hope a minor miracle happends tomorrow vs Canada go USA
The American women will USUALLY have blowouts - because of our American laws - called Title 9!!! For every scholarchip given to a male - you gotta give one to a female. This is NOT TRUE anywhere else in the world!!!!
In a few years it will be like the Summer Games - most of the Olympic athletes - for EVERY country - will train in American colleges!!!
Ya, we used to do that before and we used to compete in the games with a handicap. You have to remember that we have professional (NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL) players and collage (minor) players. Other countries have only clubs. Since they didnt have what you called Professional played players, they where all grouped into one. Thats how you have the USA team (Collage/Minor League) play against USSR (All experience professional) team.
The Soviet team in the Olympics was one of the best teams EVER...not just Olympics, NHL included. Tretiak is, arguably, the greatest goaltender of all time. For the US to beat them with a bunch of college kids, after they crushed a team of NHL all stars, is nothing short of miraculous. If they played this game 100 times, the Soviets probably would win 99 of those times. THAT'S why it's considered a miracle and one of the greatest sports moments ever.
Great, I really appreciate your honest, you are first that really can admits soviets superiority. USA:s team in 1980 was real miracle, they beat the best, enjoy!
Oh very yes, 19 (lol! ) The Gold Medalist..my grade-school sweetheart, the fine Eric Strobel (#19)!.We attended Golden Hills Elementary School & were classmates (& sweet on each other ever' year) from kindergarten thru 3rd grade, whence I moved away, ohh what a treasure to see him & the USA team of upstarts take down the mighty Russians in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, on our own soil, the host country, beyond fine! The autographed pic he sent me has since been lost, much to my shame(1:23 & 2:16)
Thats at the world juniors......not the olympics before when amatures played thats what made it so great a bunch of college guys playing togather for 6 months and beat the best team at hockey in the world.....No pros at all thats how it should be....
the movie was awaesome and i hate the frickincanadiens ripping on something they're suppose to rule and they can't even medal half the time. absolutely the greates sports upset bar none, still voted on espn as the greatest american sports story 25 plus years later

But, you need to work on your respect.
The USA team worked very hard to get silver, and should be happy with that.

LOL! Are you retarded? Because there was no expectation of the US team to win. The Soviet wins were expected.

so soviets were better, is that your point?
