This year was not a failure. No one expected them to make the Medal Round or compete for the Gold- They Beat the Canadians once and a bounce of a puck could have done it again. USA Hockey can stand proud.

we had twice as many shots as you when we lost, and the difference in the game was the difference between miller and brodeur, and if you ain't first you're last, so yes, this was a fail, a double fail, because our women beat you too

well unfortunately in a gold medal game you dont get 1 point for losing in overtime, a loss is a loss... and you make an excellent point, many people in Canada would have been terribly devastated if we had of lost, which is why had this tournament been played elsewhere, USA would have never had a chance, its tough to play when you have everything to lose, and the US had everything to gain, but like always, we prevailed and showed you whose game it is once again

Canada shows that any nation can be great at a sport if that's the only sport they care about and the only they work at. Any nation. And anyways aren't those Canadian players going back to the states to play for American teams in American cities? How strange is it that after becoming national heroes, they have to leave Canada so soon and play for non-Canadian teams? Next time, we shouldn't release them to go to the olympics. hehe.

that makes no sense considering we won 14 gold medals in skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, curling, bobsleigh, and hockey, doesnt really sound like 1 sport to me... and how does the fact that they play for american teams make any difference, ryan kessler plays for the canucks, phil kessell plays for the leafs, some of our players play for canadian teams... your comments get more stupid everytime

congrats it took the US 5 years to put together a team that could beat Canada at the world juniors... your bound to have a better team than Canada at some point with such a small age group... and I just said that having the tournament in Canada is a disadvantage for our team because of the pressure thats put on them

And people have said its one of the greatest upsets ever, lets be real people it is the greatest upset ever bar none nothing even comes close because it was amatuers vs the pros and the kids won. Ya, we used to do that before and we used to compete in the games with a handicap. You have to remember that we have professional (NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL) players and collage (minor) players. Other countries have only clubs. Since they didnt have what you called Professional played players, they where all grouped into one. Thats how you have the USA team (Collage/Minor League) play against USSR (All experience professional) team.

The Soviet team in the Olympics was one of the best teams EVER...not just Olympics, NHL included.  Tretiak is, arguably, the greatest goaltender of all time. For the US to beat them with a bunch of college kids, after they crushed a team of NHL all stars, is nothing short of miraculous. If they played this game 100 times, the Soviets probably would win 99 of those times. THAT'S why it's considered a miracle and one of the greatest sports moments ever.

Oh very yes, 19 (lol! ) The Gold Medalist..my grade-school sweetheart, the fine Eric Strobel (#19)!.We attended Golden Hills Elementary School & were classmates (& sweet on each other ever' year) from kindergarten thru 3rd grade, whence I moved away,ohh what a treasure to see him & the USA team of upstarts take down the mighty Russians in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, on our own soil, the host country, beyond fine!The autographed pic he sent me has since been lost, much to my shame(1:23 & 2:16)

Thats at the world juniors......not the olympics before when amatures played thats what made it so great a bunch of college guys playing togather for 6 months and beat the best team at hockey in the world.....No pros at all thats how it should be....
