@08Annasia if you knew Claude François "Tell Him" french cover... oooooh my god what a massacre!!! Exciters on top of top, listen to a tv show in France - 963 at Musicnewzeland channel, search : The Exciters - Tell Him [Rare Clip - French TV]
I'm 39 and I like a lot of the newer material. One recent addition to my playlist is Book Of Heavy Metal by Dream Evil. But I like some older music too and this song is one of them.
This song is so good!!! I'm 14, but hate today's music (most of it anyway, especially rap/hip hop) and 50's/60's music is my absolute favorite. I'm starting an old-fashioned girl group with my sister and a friend to bring REAL music. We are writing our own songs and also covering all the best oldies. We will definitely be doing this one! Thanks for posting the original, it's so much better!!!
Wow, I know Manfred Mann was talented, but what's with all these artists who simply flip the gender around and then get ALL the credit for someone else's good work?? Like Toni Basil's "Hey Mickey" was really about a girl first.... the British group Racey's "Hey Kitty".
I guess I'm the only one here who likes Manfred Mann's version better but there is nothing wrong with this one. I guess because I have the Manfred Mann LP. Nice video and I enjoyed the labels.
If you want to know why the group Manfred Mann made this a commercial hit go and see the Manfreds in concert.Paul Jones the lead singer is awesome and is a fantastic talent, the band although minus Manfred are all first class musicians forget Xfactor go and see them, you wont be disappointed!!!!!
I remember hearing this once on the radio when it was new - well, I should say, after the Manfred Mann version was already popular - and at the time, I thought it was inferior to the cover version, which I was already familiar with. Well...after the passage of 35 years, I can say that my initial impression was wrong. This one's better.
I also misunderstood Manfred back then and thought he was singing "I'm hurt - she's mad" instead of the correct "I'm hers - she's mine." Well, I was only 10.
The lyrics that you heard at 10 may have been wrong but during the lifetime of a relationship your thoughts can drift between the two on a regular basis LOL
this is like the Isley Bros version of Twist and Shout, far better than the hit versions that became better known. A shame, but that's the way these things go. As long as they're not forgotten is what matters.
I never understood why this wasn't a bigger hit than it was (locally) and why the "other version" was. Really no comparison. This by far the better one!
Of course...my comment was rhetorical. If I had said the obvious, I was afraid it wouldn't be posted! So many songs were covered--"Piece of My Heart," "I'm Into Something Good," "Time is On My Side," just to name a few.
I have this on "Before They Were Hits" Volume 1, and I think it's the best version hands down. Manfred Mann's is enjoyable for sure, but it still can't hold a candle to The Exciters' original!
Thank you so much Andy for uploading this gem by The Exciters, as although I like it by Manfred Mann this version has got a great northern soul come Motown feel to it. Haven't heard this version in years 5***** cheers mate!!!
Hi, If you look up "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" on Wikipedia at en{dot}wikipedia{dot}org then (rightly or wrongly?) this is what you get:
"Do Wah Diddy Diddy" is a song notably performed by 1960s British R&B, Beat and Pop band Manfred Mann. The song was originally performed in 1963 by the American band The Exciters, originally written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Manfred Mann's version was recorded on June 11 1964...
... was released on July 10 and spent two weeks in August at number one in the UK singles chart and in October of that year it spent two weeks at the number one spot in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Heard this - original version - for the first time at a soul night on Friday, and it blew me away! Just love it!

Manfred Mann, eat your heart out. There is no way Mann's version of the song even approaches this one by the great quartet from Queens, the Exciters.

BRILLIANT singer. Thisis miles better, but I'm still fond of the M.Mann version though, has to do with memories.we all get sentimental.
