Mr. Egerton-Smith displays an adventurous improvisational approach to Opus 10, #1 that closely resembles the soaring, devil-may-care style of Alfred Cortot. If one listens without indulgence in mere note-nîggling, one will discover an expansive, large-scale understanding of the music that's truer to the grandeur Chopin intended than many who play all the notes with perfect evenness. I love the sweeping style -- and the courage -- displayed in this performance.

This Opus 25 #11 ranks with the best --- a wonderful performance.

Opus 10 #1 is one of the most challenging pieces imaginable. Despite a few little flubs here and there, I enjoyed listening to the daring improvisational style, vivid imagination and great flair with which Mr. Egerton-Smith performs this work. This spontaneous approach is far more interesting than many "note-perfect" renditions.

From everything I've heard so far this artist finds a thread of song in everything he plays.

The playing here is fully alive -- very exciting, and interesting. I don't think Mr. Egerton-Smith's tailoring has a thing to do with it one way or the other, so why mention it?
