Droopy Dog Lieberman has never been a real Democrat. He got into the Senate in 1988, running against Connecticut's liberal Republican Senator Lowell Weicker. William F. Buckley and the right-wing Republicans in CT all backed Lieberman. They hated Weicker going back to the Watergate hearings, when he was one of the few Republicans to speak out against Nixon's crimes. Lieberman ran against Weicker from the right, even red-baiting him because Weicker favored diplomatic relations with Cuba.

He was never fit to run with Al Gore, and is probably the main reason why the election was so close in '00. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but he didn't USED TO BE this bad. He was okay when Gore and him ran for president and vice president. (And won, dammit! /bitter about florida still) But since 9/11, he's become a warmonger, as exemplified by the Iraq War bill he proposed. He's right about a few things still, mostly domestic issues, which he's fairly liberal on.
