Marriage is recognized as a formal union between a man and a woman under God and has been this way throughout human history since its inception. If you aren't religious then why do you want to take part in what is essentially a religious ceremony? You have your civil unions, be happy.
One of the oldest recognized definitions of "Marriage" is a "Union between two people of the same religion and social status." That alone kind of ruins today's standard definition. I don't think the government should get involved in people's marriages at all. Why should it? If there was a prop that eliminated government involvement in all marriages, I would totally be an activist in favor of it. Um... I'm straight, and all for allowing gay marriage, but I don't quite get why gays would WANT to get married anyway. Or straight people for that matter. You don't have to be gay to think gays deserve to be treated equally, just like you don't have to be Jewish to think the Holocaust was a bad thing. Wicca, by the way, as a Pagan religion, is recognized by the federal government. so, even though people can't keep church and state separate, as a federally recognizes religion, Pagans are perfectly allowed to engage in same-sex marriages. civil unions are a guise to shut us up under the ruse of "separate but equal". seperate but equal does not exist.

Wicca, for example predates christianity, and had marriages based only on love and companionship. these marriages took place with a handfasting ceremony, where you get "tying the knot". after this ceremonly, the couple had a year and a day....

Marriage is recognized as a formal union between a man and a woman under God and has been this way throughout human history since its inception. If you aren't religious then why do you want to take part in what is essentially a religious ceremony? You have your civil unions, be happy.

One of the oldest recognized definitions of "Marriage" is a "Union between two people of the same religion and social status." That alone kind of ruins today's standard definition. Prop 8 isn't about allowance, but rather government recognition. Anyone can still marry anyone else.
I don't think the government should get involved in people's marriages at all. Why should it? If there was a prop that eliminated government involvement in all marriages, I would totally be an activist in favor of it. If I get married, I will not register my marriage with the government, because I don't want it involved in my marriage.
The government is not the arbitrator of morality and truth.

Um... I'm straight, and all for allowing gay marriage, but I don't quite get why gays would WANT to get married anyway. Or straight people for that matter. Why fall over yourself in an effort to be allowed to beg the state to "allow" you to marry (ie get a marriage "license"). The state has no BUSINESS poking its nose into marriage anyway. Gay marriage will only lead to gay divorce, which equals MORE state meddling in your lives. Take it from one who knows, you do NOT really want this.
