  • Yay for being the 120,000th view.

  • thats a mozambique not a samba

  • Great! I´ll be learning it!

  • Notes mabey?

  • cool. i liked this. thanks

  • thanks for this video. i learned. i played it in our church earlier.. its fun..

  • This is samba: /watch?v=Ordcsv2QKfA

  • Sounds like a cascara beat

  • Why is this whiteboy wearing a du-rag?

  • @ThomasMetal75 I would assume because he wants to.

  • Steve Gadd/Paul Simon late in the evening anyone!

  • bom de mais

  • Good exercise, but is NOT SAMBA. Im brazilian, sorry

  • can anyone tell me what ride cymbal that is? i love the sound of that bell.

  • Only real people play the Drums. Rock on!!

  • Are you kidding us?????

Search for "RAMON MONTAGNER NO IBVF " on youtube, will help you a lot!!!!!

but it is still a good exercise!!!!!

  • he is best online drum teacher!!!

  • this is actually a mozambique ride bell pattern with a samba ostinato on the feet

  • I know this video has failed to get an approval rating from the Youtube Samba police, the armchair experts drum tuition committee and the comment thread video approval regulators (self appointed)... but I couldn't give a shit whether it is an authentic Brazillian pattern or not - it sounds bloody good to me and is a cool lesson.

I'll be learning it and thanks for posting.

  • @SAHBfan Are you kidding? The pattern in the hands is a completely different groove based on a style of music from a completely different continent than the Samba. As a professional musician, if I showed up to a Latin gig and played this as a Samba, I would get laughed at, then I would likely be fired. (Or at the very least not hired again, which is almost as bad.)

This guy, professing to be a teacher, should really know better.

  • @chopman83

    "@SAHBfan Are you kidding? "

Why should I be kidding? I said in my comment that I didn't give a shit whether it was authentic or not. As an amateur musician if I turned up at a practice and played this the other guys would think it fun and might even be impressed.

If you are a professional musician concerned with cultural authenticity and accuracy of rhythmical style, why are you bothering with videos posted for free on youtube?

  • @SAHBfan

    Please get a Grip ..

  • love this

  • Mac Donald´s Samba.... with Bozo.... kkkkkkkk

  • Thanks alot, most helpful!

  • hay wa su phu oiiiiiii

  • sounds like a mozambique to me;)

  • my first samba haha

  • Japonese SAMBA !!!

  • @ademir1587 じゃ、おれのサンバはどうだい?

  • I love it!

  • Kool video

  • Is this drummer a newbie or expert? /watch?v=6r1xxeKUqBM

  • NOTTTTTTTT SSSSSSAAAAAMMMMMBBAAAAAA !!!

  • @shafbrazil sounds like samba, why not??

  • it's NOT SAMBA !!!

  • is that the mozam bique your playing with the right hand?

  • you shouldnt teach a whole beat, you should teach the feet seperate the symbals seperate and snare seperate... 2 bad i cant do these thing myself... (my english is 2 bad :-( )

  • Cool lessons. I fell like we're in a plane with the mic. You should load your e-kit into a small cargo plane and shoot a lesson from there while skydivers jump out of the side door. That would rock!!

  • I just knew this video would promote pedantic comments from the 'SAMBA POLICE'!!!

  • your feets are playing samba ,and your hands playing (i think it s could )montuno.

  • I am having such a hard time with the foot ostinato of the samba. my bass drum foot is quick enough, but when i lift my hi hat foot my balance disappears and ive got no power for the 'and' of the and 1, and 2, and 3, and 4. if i stay all heels down, no problem, but no doubt i want to shred on this heels up. could it be my throne height or something? ive tried everything and am soooo frustrated. any tips? great vid... your playing is sick

  • @liennto I personally have my throne as high as I can get it (I'm tall) if that helps. I've found that heel down doesn't give me enough power so I just stopped playing that way. I got my balance over time but really you just have to practice the way you want to play. If you want to be playing heel up with both feet then practice everything that way. It doesn't take too long. Hope that helps.

  • @AdamOuissellat Thanks. I'm sure its just a practice issue. Just havent hit that comfort breakthrough. I just noticed that the Samba is very similar to the standard jazz "1, and-a 2" rhythm, without swing (and of course with the bass drum added)... True? making this connection seems to help. Thanks again for the reply.

  • gracias

  • thanks

  • wow i liked it a lot and helped me learn the rhythm... i don't know how can he talk while playing this :p. thanks a lot !

  • no you are wrong. Check out a mombo

  • This is mambo. Not samba.

  • @SuperRiceCooker

you're a dumb ass, Mambo is played with an ostinato on bass and a cascara pattern on ride.

  • @TVOham samba has an ostinato on the bass drum too dumbshit.

and the cascara pattern is on the rim dumbshit. learn the beats before you talk like a dumbshit. DUMBSHIT.

  • @SuperRiceCooker

Samba bass drum is 1 a3 a1 a3 dumb fucking idiot.

Learn something about drumming before you say shit. You don't know how to mambo or samba bitch you're a chinq, "superRICEcooker"

Go play your little gong because that's the only drumming you g00ks do.

  • @TVOham Errm No. If you go to Brazil you will find that they play the surdo (bass drum) on the 2 and 4 (usually). Samba is not a kit groove. Also, the pattern you speak of is one of many. Check out Baiao Samba which is quite different. Lastly do not reply with offensive comments. If you think someone is wrong that's fine but don't use insults. And I highly doubt you have any feel whatsoever. You are probably just another drum noob.

  • @AdamOuissellat

Where do you think the Samba came from? Brazil lmao

Someone needs a music theory class.

  • @TVOham music styles and where they came from has NOTHING to do with music theory. clearly someones never taken a theory class. but carry on, troll. no, really, please. fag.

  • @liennto

Actually, I majored in it in College.

Nice try. Look up the definition next time before you sound stupid.

  • @TVOham you should take your own advice. look up the wikipedia defintion for "Music Theory". Lots of info. Does it mention the Samba (or any music style/origin for that matter)? Nope. So you make me repeat myself. If you were studying the samba and that it came from Brazil, in MUSIC THEORY class, you went to a piece of shit of a school because theory is THEORY. Origins of music is studied in a different class and has NOTHING TO DO WITH THEORY. give up chump.

  • @liennto

    Again, nice try.

It's funny that you used wikipedia as your reference, but what do you think Samba and latin styled rythms are? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was music.

Theory is music in general, not just latin.

    Nice logical fallacy though. Failure

  • @TVOham Are you going to say it originated in Africa?

It is a Brazilian dance. My previous point is still valid.

  • @TVOham your racist bullshit is so out of line and makes it clear you suck at what you do because real musicians are gifted and dont think that way. WTF is wrong with you?

  • @liennto

What the hell are you talking about dumb ass?

  • @TVOham haha buddy get ya head out of a book! samba comes with foot ostinato's! explore the grooves dude! you'll find this isn't so far away!

  • @xotankox

Try to play this beat to a basic mambo pattern tape(can be purchased at any music store). It doesn't fit to any of the variations. This is definetely a samba.

  • @TVOham i still think your classifying this music way to much! latin music has the ability to go anywhere it wants!

that bell pattern is definatly the same as a mambo! the pattern on the toms is similar to the mozambique style groove! steve gadd,

that bass drum ostinato is used in samba! not set in concrete but yes used in samba!

that being said i use the same pattern on the kick/HH for rock, samba, baiao, rumba sometimes! wherever it sounds good! nothing wrong with what onlinedrummer said

  • it is necessary note (music)

  • great lesson thanks :)

  • Watching drum vids like this makes me want to drum more!

    Thanks Nate Brown!

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • esta super cool !!!

  • great video.. can someone give the sticking for this?

  • I'm brazilian and I have a hard time trying to play samba lol.

But your video helped a lot. Thank you and keep up the great work!

  • @carlosfvs btw being brazilian doesnt that you know everything or you know how to play samba

  • @polidosk8 I know, man. I meant that it's funny to see someone from the country where samba was created having a hard time playin it, it's just ironic, you know.

    ;)

  • Rly cool man, i love your lessons :D keep up the good work.

  • Yay! Thanks ALOT man i've been searching all round to learn afro-cuban/latin grooves and this has been REALLY informative. Could you do somemore mainstream latin/afro-cuban grooves similar to this??? Thanks!
