p.s. i am a gamer so i need faster connection and fios is the only isp available in my area besides brighthouse, so i decided to switch to verizon fios.

Mate! I appreciate your FIOS install blog, but it took 5:11 or 5:19 to find out if it was faster .... Maybe I'm too much of a bottom line guy, but, to be frank and with all due respect, it felt like five hours to find out if it works ... I hated Comcast, I Waited for Fios, and Finally I Got it, 4 months now, every months they charge me for channels i never order, if you want to order a channel at night or an a sunday at the last minute, forget it, you have to wait until 8 am monday to saturday, what a nightmare, their costumer service is the worst, i still hate Comcast but Fios is Horrible. I'm not the only one, look it up in the internet, they do have better internet speed, but if a problem happens you will be in Gods hand

@johnkx yeah man i know. there are a lot of people who want fios but live in places where either they're run by a HOA/apartment complex who has a contact w/someone else or have another provider who runs the entire area. i've had people who have been waiting 5 yrs and are seeing fios trucks everywhere but their home. patience man, from what i've heard, its worth the wait and i'm not just saying that cuz i work for Verizon.
yeah man, i know its a little more expensive. i'm a penny pincher too and i love time warner cable. the only thing is, internet speed is a little slow for 7.0mbps and hd is only available in some channels so i'd pay a little more for better service. if you have vz internet right now, you'd be able to upgrade to fios with an extra discount. i feel like i'm at work!!! lmao

I just checked my phone and I have 27 messages ALL from marketers. Their customer service is HORRIBLE someone actually hung up the phone on me after I spent 10 min. talking to a damn machine.

I absolutely love how giddy you were with excitement as the video went on. I'm having FiOS installed next week. Then again, it's next week because they've cancelled twice. Should be interesting. Apparently they can fish coax in the walls of the rooms we're getting it installed in and install the jacks for $55 a pop. Guess we'll see.
Take as long as you want just do a quality job. I dont want it slapped together by the fellow who just started and is not sure of himself. Keep in mind every house and cirumstance is different.
I just got FIOS yesterday because I wanted to watch The Oscar's, well, I always wanted FIOS, but cablevision dropping Channel 7 put me over the edge.
I got the 35 down / 35 Up. 1 guy came to install at 9am, left my house at 4:30pm. We had to re-run Coax throughout my enitre house. If you get FIOS make sure you have RG6 Coax cables, or your install could take upwards of 7 hours...
20 down beats my turbo cable of *up to 15 down (even tho I've gotten 26 once), but the 3 Mbps up is NICE! I'm only getting 0.64 Mbps up on a good day. You could really make use of an ftp server in your own home! Not to mention small game servers :D
I wanted Fios but in nyc its not available in apartments. I had timewarner for years and their service is less then desirable. On Speakeasy I get 19389 kbps download. & 494 kbps upload. Depending on time of day i can get better or worst. But my upload usually stay same, its one of the things I wish was better about my current connection
if you dont like to have unlimited download and upload or you dont like faster internet speeds or you dont use netflicks or watch hulu or stream live then
Can you do a PingTest? My speed test result was around 26 mbps in download but my ping grade was a B. I'm not sure if upgrading to something like Fios would be worth it for me because my internet is pretty fast...
Ihave dsl and im getting verizon FIOS installed in my house tomorrow, i cant wait for faster internet, on this pc with dsl internet connection, i cannot play any games, or game demos, they always lagg like heck, feezing, crashing, just very slow, like call of duty demo, call of juarez, operation flashpoint dragon rising, they all lagg so bad, hopefuly with verizon fios the games will no longer lagg.
As a new customer I feel like I am part of a beta test. They are(verizon) always dancing channels around adding and removing channels. and when the 60day preview went away durring that time I specified I want to keep the international channel and that was removed as well.

LOL I get 6mbps with DSL and I live out in the boonies. No fiber optic anything. Maybe some day you will get something better out of it by the year 2020 when they actually upgrade the rest of the lines.
I have Fios... although the internet is fast their costumer service is the worst. If you want Fios do not.... DO NOT get their package deals. They lied to me. I was suppose to get 6 months of free HBO... now it turns out it's 3 months. The installation was suppose to be free, I got a bill for $250. I would not mind paying it, I understand they have to cover their cost for installation but don't lie! FIOS TV has pixellation, artifacting, and it cuts out sometimes why? It's an optical cable? >:(
You can't trust cable companies. You haven't even seen the worst of it with all the spying on what you are downloading and limiting bandwidth if you actually try to use what you pay for.
Get SBC DSL. It is much better than cable and you can get a really good 2Wire modem that is also a really good router.
You have to read the fine print on the free install stuff. I work for at&t and I know on the uverse stuff, if the install is straight forward it is free. If it is more complex they are billed.

Tell me something ? 2 years ago I got offer 19" LCD or $100 for getting Fios . I never got it LCD or $100. I cancel in January they could'nt make their mind how much charge me for months, than they slap me with $199cancell. Fee + $162 for month when I was paying $117/month but they give me $47 check and when I didn't cashed it I got letter (Sep.) from Verizon to cash it ASAP . At same time I'm harassed by collection agency and they report me to credit agencies . What would you do ?

kind of an unfair speed test, or am I the only person whos noticed internet gets slower after like the 3d day of having it. I have had comcast high speed for about 5 years and have moved 3 times in that time. everytime I move and they instal is blazing fas like web pages pop up as I click links, after a few days of using it starts taking a second or two for the pages to open. Downloads are still fast but opening pages slows down for sume reason, has happend every time so far.
Upload is consistently 25Mb/s,... down typically btw, 8-13Mb/s varies some, but I am happy with what I have now. Blazing fast. Just need to upgrade my RDRAM now.

Direct for now, took advantage of the FREE Netbook so will let you know once I get it to see speeds on the wireless. 25.8 up consistently, 13-14 dwn, live near VA/DC, close to server. There is a 50MB available, which costs much more!... maybe this is what you have? Cox guy came yesterday to get the boxes,... I'm NOT looking back.
The netbook is from Compaq,... a lesser version (not top shelf). Was there anything special you had to do to use the wireless router to your notebook? Just plug and play?
the only drawback is whenever i use the wireless router im getting only around 23000kbs rather than when im connected through the ethenet cable i get 35000kbs
Indeed. I'm hoping we get fios soon. Apparently they have had the lines in our neighborhood for a while, but they never actually turned it on. They need to do it in increments so that they can maybe update their servers for the load and whatnot.

Shortly - VERIZON. $96 OFFER grown to $135 for first 3 months do some installation charges. Change .. from standard to HD was $80- to unskilled technician. $100 gift card is missing (NJ State lawsuit /VERIZON) Im one of ripped off. At the end I have collection agency on my back for Verizon accounting service is not capable to make proper bill. I received $46 check last May in June Collection agency called me to collect money Verizon is just big JOKE and they have no idea how to fix problems.

Newver have the cables that go in to the house "slope down to the hole. The should make a little "loop" down just before entering the wall to allow water to shed - else you will over time accumulate moisture inside the wall cavity. Simple trick and no caulking is as godo as gravity.
i have a 20" imac with the airport extreme router running the 802.11(N) wireless technology. it gets an average 20,000 down and .05 up and i love it. i also have a pc laptop that uses the 802.11 (G) and when using wireless, it gets average 10,000 and .05 up. trust me, buy a mac and the airport extreme and u will notice a big difference. I didnt believe it but i had the money to give it a shot and im glad i did. o and also, i use twc roadrunner and 5 starz 4 sure trust me its close 2 verizon fios
no, you my friend can't even imagine how fast fios is. Cable is slow. Fios is over 20 times faster than cable, literally. When many people in an area use cable modems, The entire thing slows down...alot.
It looks like from the readings from the speakeasy web site that he purchased the 20mb download 5mb upload package. That's $109.99 for (TV, Internet and Phone) with 348 Channels & 55 HD Channels.
Thank you for posting this. I have always been curious about Fios and was anxiously awaiting it in my area - 92660 zip. However I found out that from our speed test with speak easy we are getting 18 megabit down and 3 megabits up roughly vs. 20-25 down and 4 up with Fios. I'm better off than I thought with Cox cable.
There's no way it could go on your record unless somehow your neighbor found out and attempted to take you to court which would just be a huge waste of time.
I wouldn't call it stealing anyway, you using the internet doesn't take away your neighbors ability to use the internet and as long as you don't do any bandwidth intensive things. If it makes you feel any better, you could work something out with your neighbor, like splitting the internet bill. Then you both pay less for the same service.

Wow... Some people are so ignorant. I am a FiOS tech and install it every day. FiOS is literally "FIBER" right to the side of your home. Once installed, the "ONT" which is your network interface device, breaks down all of the info and sends it to your equipment via Cat5e cable or Coax. There is nothing faster than the speed of light..FACT! Under 500 ft, there is NO LOSS over coax or copper. So unless you live at the colleseum.. Your speed does not degrade over your approved inside wiring.

All right Heres the deal with Brighthouse Networks(Time Warner) It is Fiber Optic Cable. It stops at the street and is not buried in the ground. They do that for a reason If your cable gets cut your looking at a costly repair and 7 to 16 days to get fixed. That cable coming out of the box is coax cbl. so the difference is maybe 6 to 10 ft of fiber. The Fios advertising team is really good at making people think that its exclusive when its really an apple to apple comparison.
you sir are wrong. Fiber is replaced by fios if cut that day or next. no splicing neede. time warner is fiber optic to one point... and coax for miles and amped up. Fiber to the house is exclusive to verizon
It's obvious that you've never had your fios cable cut, or had to call verizions customer service line either If you think that there going to respond to anything in a day or two your crazy Because fiber optic is most commonly a glass tube you can't splice the cable to fix it, in most cases it needs to be replace

I just got FIOS yesterday because I wanted to watch The Oscar's, well, I always wanted FIOS, but cablevision dropping Channel 7 put me over the edge.
I got the 35 down / 35 Up. 1 guy came to install at 9am, left my house at 4:30pm. We had to re-run Coax throughout my enitre house. If you get FIOS make sure you have RG6 Coax cables, or your install could take upwards of 7 hours...
On the other hand now, FIOS is AMAZING, get it!

20 down beats my turbo cable of *up to 15 down (even tho I've gotten 26 once), but the 3 Mbps up is NICE! I'm only getting 0.64 Mbps up on a good day. You could really make use of an ftp server in your own home! Not to mention small game servers :D

I wanted Fios but in nyc its not available in apartments. I had timewarner for years and their service is less then desirable. On Speakeasy I get 19389 kbps download. & 494 kbps upload. Depending on time of day i can get better or worst. But my upload usually stay same, its one of the things I wish was better about my current connection

Can you do a PingTest? My speed test result was around 26 mbps in download but my ping grade was a B. I'm not sure if upgrading to something like Fios would be worth it for me because my internet is pretty fast...

As a new customer I feel like I am part of a beta test. They are(verizon) always dancing channels around adding and removing channels. and when the 60day preview went away durring that time I specified I want to keep the international channel and that was removed as well.

I have Fios... although the internet is fast their costumer service is the worst. If you want Fios do not.... DO NOT get their package deals. They lied to me. I was suppose to get 6 months of free HBO... now it turns out it's 3 months. The installation was suppose to be free, I got a bill for $250. I would not mind paying it, I understand they have to cover their cost for installation but don't lie! FIOS TV has pixellation, artifacting, and it cuts out sometimes why? It's an optical cable? >:(

You can't trust cable companies. You haven't even seen the worst of it with all the spying on what you are downloading and limiting bandwidth if you actually try to use what you pay for.
Get SBC DSL. It is much better than cable and you can get a really good 2Wire modem that is also a really good router.

You have to read the fine print on the free install stuff. I work for at&t and I know on the uverse stuff, if the install is straight forward it is free. If it is more complex they are billed.

kind of an unfair speed test, or am I the only person whos noticed internet gets slower after like the 3d day of having it. I have had comcast high speed for about 5 years and have moved 3 times in that time. everytime I move and they instal is blazing fas like web pages pop up as I click links, after a few days of using it starts taking a second or two for the pages to open. Downloads are still fast but opening pages slows down for sume reason, has happend every time so far.

Upload is consistently 25Mb/s,... down typically btw, 8-13Mb/s varies some, but I am happy with what I have now. Blazing fast. Just need to upgrade my RDRAM now.

Direct for now, took advantage of the FREE Netbook so will let you know once I get it to see speeds on the wireless. 25.8 up consistently, 13-14 dwn, live near VA/DC, close to server. There is a 50MB available, which costs much more!... maybe this is what you have? Cox guy came yesterday to get the boxes,... I'm NOT looking back.

Shortly - VERIZON. $96 OFFER grown to $135 for first 3 months do some installation charges. Change .. from standard to HD was $80- to unskilled technician. $100 gift card is missing (NJ State lawsuit /VERIZON) Im one of ripped off. At the end I have collection agency on my back for Verizon accounting service is not capable to make proper bill. I received $46 check last May in June Collection agency called me to collect money Verizon is just big JOKE and they have no idea how to fix problems.

Newver have the cables that go in to the house "slope down to the hole. The should make a little "loop" down just before entering the wall to allow water to shed - else you will over time accumulate moisture inside the wall cavity. Simple trick and no caulking is as godo as gravity.

i have a 20" imac with the airport extreme router running the 802.11(N) wireless technology. it gets an average 20,000 down and .05 up and i love it. i also have a pc laptop that uses the 802.11 (G) and when using wireless, it gets average 10,000 and .05 up. trust me, buy a mac and the airport extreme and u will notice a big difference. I didnt believe it but i had the money to give it a shot and im glad i did. o and also, i use twc roadrunner and 5 starz 4 sure trust me its close 2 verizon fios

Thank you for posting this. I have always been curious about Fios and was anxiously awaiting it in my area - 92660 zip. However I found out that from our speed test with speak easy we are getting 18 megabit down and 3 megabits up roughly vs. 20-25 down and 4 up with Fios. I'm better off than I thought with Cox cable.

There's no way it could go on your record unless somehow your neighbor found out and attempted to take you to court which would just be a huge waste of time.
I wouldn't call it stealing anyway, you using the internet doesn't take away your neighbors ability to use the internet and as long as you don't do any bandwidth intensive things. If it makes you feel any better, you could work something out with your neighbor, like splitting the internet bill. Then you both pay less for the same service.

Wow... Some people are so ignorant. I am a FiOS tech and install it every day. FiOS is literally "FIBER" right to the side of your home. Once installed, the "ONT" which is your network interface device, breaks down all of the info and sends it to your equipment via Cat5e cable or Coax. There is nothing faster than the speed of light..FACT! Under 500 ft, there is NO LOSS over coax or copper. So unless you live at the colleseum.. Your speed does not degrade over your approved inside wiring.

All right Heres the deal with Brighthouse Networks(Time Warner) It is Fiber Optic Cable. It stops at the street and is not buried in the ground. They do that for a reason If your cable gets cut your looking at a costly repair and 7 to 16 days to get fixed. That cable coming out of the box is coax cbl. so the difference is maybe 6 to 10 ft of fiber. The Fios advertising team is really good at making people think that its exclusive when its really an apple to apple comparison.
