Our participation in this war was no illegal nor immoral. Most US GIs didn't commit atrocities. The difference between the GI and his enemy counterpart was that when US soldiers entered a village, they handed out cigarettes, food, medics treated locals. When NVA/VC entered a village, they terrorized/tortured.

There's not much I myself can say, I've never been very good at convincing people of anything (Though I meant what I said earlier). My seminary classes up to this point have not featured many lessons on evangelism to others. I served in the U.S. Army 1966/1969 Vietnam was not a declared war it was a police action. A country should never go into a conflict without a plan to win not hold your position. Wars are won on offense not defense. Just listen to General George S. Patton a true American hero.

The fear then was the "Domino Theory," that if South Vietnam became Communist, then other countries in that region would also become Communist, and so on. For the most part the rank and file person serving in any armed forces do not commit war crimes. That has always been charged to the commanders they give the orders. In every war there always been atrocities committed but they are done by a vary minute number of the forces on all sides.
I make no excuses for no one that commits a crime. Lt. Calley in my opinion committed murder and should have paid more than he did this is one example.

I believe the war in Iraq was a war of choice and thought it was a bad idea. If it was illegal I'm not a lawyer this may be decided by judges and lawyers. As for being the duty of anyone to desert that is another question it could in some cases bring the death penalty. Speeching against the war is every ones right but to fight against the people that waged it depends on what you mean by fight. Our participation in this war was no illegal nor immoral. Most US GIs didn't commit atrocities. The difference between the GI and his enemy counterpart was that when US soldiers entered a village, they handed out cigarettes, food, medics treated locals. When NVA/VC entered a village, they terrorized/tortured.

And by McCain being a hero, my definition of that is staying in the Vietnamese POW camp when he had the chance to get out when his captors wanted to trade him for several high ranking POW's in American custody. Lincoln's actual personal theological beliefs are unknown, though he believed in God (The quote I referenced was his response to an associate of his who walked in on him praying when the Civil War was at its worst and asked if he was praying that God would be on their side) and had much respect for the Christian faith. There's not much I myself can say, I've never been very good at convincing people of anything (Though I meant what I said earlier). My seminary classes up to this point have not featured many lessons on evangelism to others. If you want a really convincing argument, I'd suggest going to a more trained and experienced theologian, such as a professional pastor. You don't really seem to understand how these things work. When aggressive, nationalists pop up in a region, sometimes you have no choice but to back a dog that is just as evil who will oppose them. If you don't back that dog, the results are worse than not backing that dog... but that doesn't mean you leave the dog in power afterwards. Just try to get used to the nature of the game and stop acting as if life is a fairy where everyone can really be peaceful.

It did start with lies? Iraq had no WMD. The Bush Administration repeatedly said it knew FOR CERTAIN that Iraq had WMD. So you have to be truly retarded to believe the Bush Administration didn't start the war with lies.
Further there was no shred of intelligence nor any rational reason to believe Saddam would commit suicide by attacking the US - unless the US threatened invasion and didn't give him means of saving his own skin. This was said in the NIE. Of course that is what Bush did.

i agree with you that we did not find any WMD's, BUT keep in mind that we did find the materials that would be used to make them.
also we know for a fact that Saddam in the past DID have Weapons of mass destruction in his arsenal and used them several times on Kurd villages.
I guess what we should be really worrying about is exactly WHERE DID those weapons go? were they smuggled into countries like Syria or Iran perhaps?

I served in the U.S. Army 1966/1969 Vietnam was not a declared war it was a police action. A country should never go into a conflict without a plan to win not hold your position. Wars are won on offense not defense. Just listen to General George S. Patton a true American hero.

The primary U.S. goal in Vietnam was to prevent the overthrow of South Vietnam by Communist North Vietnam. The U.S. did not achieve that goal. The fear then was the "Domino Theory," that if South Vietnam became Communist, then other countries in that region would also become Communist, and so on. There was great fear of Communist worldwide domination, and for good reason. Still, the Vietnam War was based on American lies and deception just like Iraq.

The US prevented elections because they knew their puppet dictator had no support. The war had nothing to do with the "communist" bogey man. Vietnam was attacked because it developed in an independent direction and the US had to make sure it wouldnt succeed, because the role of the 3rd world is to provide cheap labor & resources

John McCain as a navy pilot did his duty and can not be blamed for any deaths caused by the bombs he dropped. All he was doing is following orders he had no idea who was being killed. When you serve in the armed forces you do not have a choice were or how you serve. There wer many that I served with that thought Vietnam was not a just conflict but they did their duty and most served with honor. The very small number of those that brought dishonor on our service men and women will be judged.

That is correct the rank and file soldier follows orders. In the case of pilots they do not know if the area they are bombing is full of women and children or is vacant. If you would have served you would know that.

For the most part the rank and file person serving in any armed forces do not commit war crimes. That has always been charged to the commanders they give the orders. In every war there always been atrocities committed but they are done by a vary minute number of the forces on all sides.
I make no excuses for no one that commits a crime. Lt. Calley in my opinion committed murder and should have paid more than he did this is one example.

If you realize the war you are fighting in is an illegal and immoral war of aggression, it's your duty as a human being to desert, to go and fight against this war and the people that waged it. That is the only way to become a hero in such a war.
Keeping on killing innocent people, like McCain did, makes you a war-criminal. Following illegal orders makes you a war-criminal.
And as he did not repent after his release by the Vietnamese but kept on hate-mongering: I wished, they'd killed him.

I believe the war in Iraq was a war of choice and thought it was a bad idea. If it was illegal I'm not a lawyer this may be decided by judges and lawyers. As for being the duty of anyone to desert that is another question it could in some cases bring the death penalty. Speeching against the war is every ones right but to fight against the people that waged it depends on what you mean by fight. I have a problem calling just anyone a war criminal and would only do that after vary deep thought.

Mc Cain has never critizised the war of agression against Vietnam. He dropped bombs on civilian "targets". I'd like to know, how many women and children were killed by those bombs. Killing civilians is a war-crime.
