  • Thank you for posting! I never heard this version, it's fantastic! I've always enjoyed it from the recordings and this a great live version.

  • Come along with me Down into the world of seeing Come and you'll be free Take the time to find the feeling See everything on it's own And you'll find you know the way And you'll know the things you're shown Owe everything to the day [Chorus:] See the carpet of the sun The green grass soft and sweet Sands upon the shores of time Of oceans mountains deep Part of the world that you live in
  • What a great find! Bravo! I always wondered what would have happened if Roger Hodgson from Supertramp had teamed up with this AMAAZING group for some sort of collaborative album. It's not too late!

  • well wrought, mate

  • Seraphins and Cherabims beware. Annie's angel voice will silence you!!!

  • Thank you for the amazing video. Took me back to back to a good day.

  • Live at Carnagie Hall was the best concert i have ever seen with the orchestra,

amazing vesrion of Ashes closed the show

  • to 2old2rock: thanks for the info, i'll be sure to keep an eye out for the dvd and thanks for the memories...i live on the west coast and altho i've asked over the yrs, i've never found anybody who had even heard of renaissance...i looked them up on youtube on a whim and,as you know, was totally and pleasantly surprised...thanks again...

  • ...how amazing...haven't heard this song since 1975...put a huge smile on my face and now you say they're going on tour...the internet is a wonderful thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @96camel1 They just finished their 2011 tour and I have to say they were as good as I've ever heard them (and I first saw them live in 1974). They are releasing one of the shows on DVD in time for Christmas. Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • I just bought a ticket for their New Fall 2011 Tour ! It starts in New England in September. How lucky am I to not have to drive to Pennsylvania just to see Annie!?!

Some New bandmembers, but they are supposedly excellent. I'll let ya' know.

  • I was lucky enough to see them a few times in the Philly area in the early 70s at the Tower in Upper Darby and at the Mann Music Center in Philly, AWESOME!!! Great memories Her voice is unmistakable ...love to see her again, I hear Annie still lives in the Philly area

  • saw them in nyc at the felt forum about that time. the thing i remember is al stewart walked off stage for some reason , but they were soo great did the whole ashes are burning album plus

  • Wow

Where's you find the copy of that performance?

  • I saw them at The Academy of Music. 5/17/74. Opening act, Fairport Convention.(with the late great Sandy Denny) Renaisance were backed by a 24 piece orchestra. Andy Powell (Wishbone Ash) performed the guitar solo on "Ashes are Burning."

My second row seat (I still have the program and tkt stub) cost $6.00. One of the most incredible evenings of my life.

  • @JohnLnyc I was there too! Luckily that show was broadcast by WNEW-FM and I found an excellent copy of it. Absolutely one of the highlights of all the concerts I've attended.

  • @2old2Rock Where did U find a copy of it I'ed like one

  • @JohnLnyc ...I was at the same concert......was an unforgettable night! Two incredible voices in one evening...Sandy Denny (RIP) and Annie Haslam. Going to see Renaissance tonight in NYC...

  • I wonder if she is referring to Carlos Castenada in the line, 'come into the world of "seeing" '.

  • @london2z I'm not sure about that, but I don't think that Betty Thatcher gets enough credit for the lyrics (of course, since she wasn't 'in the band', I guess that's somewhat understandable). The Dunford/Thatcher collaboration was one of the best music/lyrics duos ever. When Thatcher stopped writing the lyrics and Camp took over (late '70s), the quality of the songs really went downhill (my opinion, of course).

  • She is the best vocalist I have ever heard. The notes she hits are just so perfect. You can tell in her voice that she is extreamly passionate about her singing as well. What an amazing and underestimated band.

  • @sword1777 that's because Annie has perfect pitch

  • @sword1777

    Perfect!

  • I think her voice actually sounds better in this live track than on the original recording!

  • @jeannebug1 For some reason, Annie generally sings most if not all tracks of Ashes Are Burning album better live. Progressiveman uploaded a rare live version of Let It Grow from 1975. Listen to it, again, blows away the studio version. Ashes are Burning title track of course became fertile ground for many a guitar solo 'played' by Annie. :)

  • I can't believe I found someone who even knows who Renaissance was! No one on the West Coast has ever heard of them. "Sounds of the Sea" and "I Think of You" are my favorite of their songs. YES! Post more!

  • very good to first time

  • Brilliet and very enjoyable!! Oh, the memories of a beautiful era!

Nice job of uploading songs of a now lost era.

    More please.

    Jerry

  • Fabulous hippy tune. Reminicent of Judy Collins's "Both Sides Now." I mean this as a complitment to any major Renaissance fans need not get their knickers in a twist.

  • wow! what a great collection!!! i could listen all day.............but remember~ we are never too old to rock! lol

    peace.

  • What an excellent live recording. It's as pristine as you could get. Thank you for uploading.

Please tell me that you have as good a recording of Northern Rights from 1978, or, at a push, 1979. Any chance of an upload!?

    Thanks again!

  • Really really nice!! Thanks! I never heard this band before, but have always liked the music you upload here. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the complement. I love turning people on to this band. Very underrated!

  • I'd sure love to know how you get such clarity in the audio of the music. If you do plan to make more videos like this, perhaps you can list the band members in the iintroduction when you post it. It's always interesting to see what the next step after the band that they took, helps unify an understanding of sound, I think. I always love your uploads.

  • Nice pics, surprisingly good audio for a bootleg (isn't it?) and terrific performance! Got any more recordings from this concert or any other concerts from that era of this band, 2old2rock? Would love to hear those. Thanks a mill!

  • I have LOTS of old concert recordings by Renaissance (including the rest of this concert). I'll do my best to post the highlights.

  • Ah, please do, looking forward to those. Footage and recordings from this band is terribly rare :(, especially there's hardly any prior to the Carnegie Hall concert.

  • Just to clarify, I don't have any video just audio boots. Having been to several of their concerts in their prime, it's heartbreaking that almost no video of them exists. However, I am beyond stoked that I'll be seeing them live on their reunion tour next week. My first Renaissance concert in over 30 years! Hopefully some clips of those shows will show up!

  • Yeah, I got you. Audio boots are fine, any concert material would be great, having never seen them live, born too late! I am tens of thousands of miles away from where they will be touring so here goes my chance. :( Speaking of which, checked out the DVD? Yeah, hope there will be videos from the upcoming concerts!

  • Did you see Renaissance at the concert hall on 64th street in Manhattan or one of the other 8 venues. It was a magical evening, even if Annie had trouble hitting and maintaining those high notes.

While seeing your point about them being "underrated" never considered them so, growing up on the East Coast, with WNEW f.m.

    Nice work! most appreciated!

  • I never heard of this group but they sound pretty good. Many thanks for posting and I'd love to hear more.

  • a great share journal245 !!! love the song and video !!!!

  • Great Song! Thanks journal & 2old2rock...Anita...

  • Nice, real nice.

  • This rock-band is V Good, and Annie has a beautiful Voice.

Is there John Wetton, bass guitar?

  • Jon Camp is the bassist. He's closer to Chris Squire in style than Wetton.
