  • ok

  • i like most of your vids but not this one because you get the boxing punch wrong.. My boxing coach is one of the top in Europe and says never use the shoulder or lean forwards. Also there is no 'set up' and the fist stays relaxed in the glove.

  • Dude , nice videos , but you keep saying "okay" ? alright ? too much , haha ;p

  • Mike Tyson saw this and became Hindu (he wnated to be born again cuz he knew boxing failed when Wing Chun came into it)

  • 6:08 *sniff* smells good!

  • @chinaboxer hey, is it normal to feel it in your upper arms?

  • Your workouts are nice, I've known about the Wing Chun style for awhile, and done alot of practice. I like to mix various martial arts styles together, to do random workouts, and prefer Chinese Boxing over traditional boxing or MMA training. Thank you for your videos as they help with my focus and have helped me relieve my shoulders of any tension that they use to have during more traditional boxing methods.

  • Punch like that and get dropped by a hook

  • @KroniclyHigh hook like that face down flat.

  • Hi Sifu Young!! I'm learning the Wing Shun art with your videos and i need to tell you how much i appreciate it!!! Thank to take the time to do that!! But, I need to tell you something about the boxing boxers technique. You have reason about the right punch, but, that's why the jab's creating.

Excuse my English, i hope you understand my message.

    Please continue your great job!

  • hey i realize there are different variations in technique in Wing Chun but can you explain the differences between someone that drops their fists to chain punch (what you're doing) and someone that extends the fist straight to the target?

  • i think youre way over committing to your boxing punch

  • can anyone else hear super mario tune in the background? lol at around 6.30

  • Instructor ( asian ) sparing partner ( asian ) camera-man ( possibly white ) lol racial profiling...

  • who was your teacher? just wondering

  • This video complete trash. "There's no power until the end of the strike" Really? That's why boxers KO men with minimal and close movements. By the way buddy good boxers generate constant energy throughout the entire punch. And what is this smell your wrist crap! How could you even say that's wing chug. Your an insult to the art and should not be instructing until you are ready.

  • @jonserro

mayb not no power...but the damage is minimized greatly if ur hit before the "end of the strike" like he says for that conventional "straight" punch..."ko at minimal and close movements"..im sure those boxers arnt throwing straights..prolly hooks or uppers.

  • @jonserro technically the power of a strike is mostly based on it's speed and weight. you don't reach the full power capacity of you're punch until the end of your punching action because you get to reach your max speed with your arm. I'm sure he didn't mean that there was completely no power BUT nothing that would compare to the power you get at the end of your action. I'm not taking his side, I'm just saying it as I see it.

  • @jonserro I dare you to watch Hollyfield vs. Tyson. Throughout the whole fight Hollyfield demonstrated how there is almost no power till the "impact" stage of the punch.

  • do u squeeze your fingers when u punch( tighten up the fist tight or celnch your finger hard into your palm) ?

  • SMELL THE FIST

  • @ MrMBKANI

no.. those 7 mins u used spelling ur way through that piece of shit msg, was waste of ur life

  • lmfao

  • 10k cash he has you down in a fight in under 20 seconds.

  • Sorry but thats an incorrect way to do wing chun punch. Punch's should go straight forward like an arrow supported by you body structure. Also wing chung punch without shifting(choma) is by far less powerful...

  • say that again in part 3 of the video if you can

  • Hey I finally joined a Wing Chun school. I Still do my other style to. Would that cause a problem.

  • as long as you understand that the "methods" are most likely different, then there shouldn't be any problems.

  • Thanks I was just concerned if it was a loyalty issue but they all know...

  • as long u know the elbow and knee clears everything! ;D

  • Hey Jin,

what's your opinion on the power of a boxers hook to a wing chun straight punch?

Does the wing chun punch have the power to create knockouts?

    Thanks again Jin,Great Video!

  • if you don't develop the "body structure" and learn to use it behind the elbows, then you will have a weak punch, which will force you to rely on speed and your upper body.

  • I know you wern't asking me, but I'm say what I think anyway:

The Boxing hook punch is not about power. It's about smashing someones jaw up. When you hit the jaw, there's a high nerve density there. There nerves all race signals to the brain on impact, the brain overloads and shuts down (kind of like a computer when you send it too much info all at once). I.e. a KO.

The hook is good for getting a good angle on the jaw. The power of it is okay, but, yeah, it isn't all about power.

  • Not many agree with me here, but I think the Wing Chun roll punch is not about power, either.

If it were about power, you'd roll your shoulder to slam weight into it. But you don't; you go for speed.

The roll punch is about speed, and a similar concept than the hook; by placing fast and successive multiple punches onto someones head, their brain is going to overload and shut down, also.

Getting hit with 3 moderate power punches can cause better KO than 1 powerful punch can.

  • Yes,I agree about the speed although the reason you don't use your shoulders is to maintain good body structure which creates power.

  • I'd say I'm fairly good at the WC punch, but maybe not a master if what you're saying's true.

I know I can create more power in that style of punch by forcing my shoulders, hips and body weight into it. Yet it makes it a lot slower.

I think the good body structure is good for other things, such as quick counters and blocks.

  • i thought you don't use biceps in wing chun?

  • you don't "focus" on the biceps.

  • just watched the Pacman knockout against Hatton, and the knock out comes well before the arm is stretched. This is a common misunderstanding of the boxing punch.

  • great fight. i understand what you're saying, but a few things to think about, in the video i am referring to a straight "cross'. Hatton was finally knocked out by a left "hook". which as you pointed out, has a different type of delivery. there's also the fact that Hatton had been knocked out twice already. anyways, it was a great fight. if you haven't seen it, you can view it in two parts here...

    watch?v=A_MevXS19FU

  • when i say "chinese boxing, i am referring to wing chun and not every single chinese martial art methods. there are of course chinese systems that do use the shoulders such as the one you are in. sorry for the confusion. take care and peace!

  • thanks for the reply :), Yeah one of my favourite boxing matches. I have a copy. I appreciate that this example is a hook and not a cross but the same principle applies in that the end point of the cross is the end of the power, so power can not be driven through.. Anyway this is just my understanding of it. appreciate you taking time to make the videos, just do not agree with the explanation of the cross.

  • 2 points. 1) the apex of a powerful boxing punch is not whne the arm is fully extended. take a look at any of the big punchers of boxing and you will see usually the arm is still bent when impact starts the drive may finish to a straight punch. 2) I do a variation of southern long fist which is chinese and we use our shoulders. so it would be wrong to say that in chinese boxing the shoulders are not used.

  • My apology, what I meant was which basic video to start first? From stances? From punches? Thanks.

  • if you go to my channel, i've broken my videos into three parts, "forms", "structure", "drills".

start with forms and hit the "play all" option, the videos will all play in order.

    enjoy them and practice!

  • Hey Jin, thanks for sharing all the important points bout Wing Chun Forms. Just one question, how do I know which video clip to start first then follow on? This will help us to understand the basic step by step. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the lesson. I want to join a Wing Chun school but there is none where I'm living. :(

  • hey, i understand, one of the reasons i moved to Cali many years ago was because there are so many great instructors here.

  • Hey, your videos are great!

I live in Holland and I want to join a wing chun school, but I don't know whether the instructeurs have even 1% knowledge of you. The instructeurs over here are more claiming that he was the first student of wang kiu :( Do you got any tips for me for selecting a good wing chun school? Although I learn alot from your videos, I still need practise and someone telling me whether my technique is good or not.

  • thanks for the kind words. all i can suggest is to take advantage of the free classes that they offer and try out the classes. also when checking out a martial arts school, focus on the students and not so much on the instructor. good luck!

  • thanks for the advice :)

  • waar in nederland woon je

  • provincie zuid holland

  • good video, i got alot more snap out of my punch when delivering from a raised position.

  • great to hear!

  • Hey, Jin. When performing a punch you said to never be "sloppy" and let your elbow rest or touch your body, but can you let your fist touch your body?

  • nice question. yes, your "third stick" can collapse and touch your body.

  • Thanks for all the great demos and explanations again. I'm a little confused. So should the fist draw a semi-circle instead of darting directly to the target?

  • in the beginning stages, break the punch into two movements until you can stay relaxed. later, practice the movement in one fluid motion which will straighten out the punch.

  • thanks for this! great lesson. can't wait to watch the next one

  • great great great :D

  • thanks!
