  • I read somewhere that Vitor Belfort used to bench like 465 x 3 when he was 19 weighing like 215 lbs. Scary!

  • @primeDecomposition he was also on roids..

  • incredible, I didnt think that was possible

  • Jim Miller looks very explosive. That bar went up fast and smooth.

  • martin rooney doesn't have a chin under his beard, its just another fist

  • @DriftingJohnny and in that fist is 300lb bar...

  • shouldn't it be more about high rep than heavy weight for combat sports?

  • Not necessarily, combat athletes need to work on their raw physical strength as well, they can't just wipe themselves out with crazy cardio/endurance workouts all the time. If they did only cardio or too much cardio, they would get weaker, loose muscle mass, and would feel crap all the time.

  • Yeah i'm a bit hesatent about doing heavy and getting heavier i'll to drop my body weight more before doing heavier weight so i can still make weight for comps.

  • Daz45, lifting your 1 rep max or 3-5 rep max is not going to bulk you up, especially if you are on a low-calorie weight cutting diet. If you want to bulk, you would need to lift for more reps(8-12) with moderately heavy weights for multiple sets, while eating excessive calories. If you are not training or eating like bodybuilder, don't worry about looking like one.

  • Oh right thanks a lot i'll try that.

  • @SakoYo Actually, if you start your workout with max weight sets (rep 8,6,3,2,1,1,etc), then finish those muscles with 20-30 rep sets to failure, and spike your blood sugar immediately after the workout, you'll bulk up and get stronger, provided you eat enough daily like you said. I went from 185 to 195lbs and dropped 3% body fat in 5 weeks, and added 100lbs to my 1RM deadlift. And I only train 3-4 days a week. 8-12 rep sets (hypertrophy) will increase glycogen in muscle and increase endurance.

  • @cross2767 message me advice :( my tits arent getting bigger

  • I don't lift anymore but I did 385 a couple of years ago. DLs give you crazy strength and explosiveness.

It's cool to see vids like this, please post more.

  • Incredible strength for guys at this bodyweight. Jim Miller has a 500 in him.

As mentioned above the deadlift can be performed in many diffrent fashions to maximize strength - high hips, rounded back etc. But one thing I like to see is keeping the knees behind the bar as much as possible. Much easier when you have long arms.

    Rich

  • You get used to it.

  • Are you guys wearing belts? Cause if not damn that's heavy for singles, beltless.

  • No belts, no wraps, no nothing.

  • Wow i hit 405 the other day with a belt and almost died, I can only imagine if i tried that with nothing. I'd prob be in the hospital right now hah. Tremendous strength in these guys.

  • @TFWarriors1 no weakness!

  • Aren't you suppose start that lift with your butt lower than they are?

  • @BehindTheLight99

Not necessarily. The bar and your grip should both start in a certain place without any movement of the hips then you bend your knees to make contact with the bar. Finally you pop your chest out and position your back - which generally makes you lower your hips.

To do this I have to get deep into the hole, but it may not be the case for everyone. Jim's looked like a Romanian or stiff-legged DL by my standards, but may have been fine for him.

Do u have an opinion Rooney?

  • TG is right. If you look at the best deadlifters in the world, or watch a world's strongest man marathon this New Year's you will see numerous styles that can all be successful. Due to everyone having different leg, arm and torso lengths as well as areas of strength due to possible mechanical advantage from their muscular orientation, each person can have different strengths and weaknesses.

  • @TFWarriors1 I'm 22, 6'1 165lbs but I can only deadlift 225 about 7-8 times. I've hurt my lower back before during my wrestling days in college. Is it possible for me to increase this weight?

  • This will scare any wimpy wannabe MMA fighter who think two-hand swings with a 16 kg kettlebell is brutal workout.
