  • the album in which this song is on, was his first. so that would mean he recycled it in the newer songs you speak of. just sayin.

  • Its my birthday. and I decided to treat myself to the best present i could think of. tallest man on earth.

  • I love you Tallest Man! Thanks for coming to Bloomington, IN. Hope to see you here again sometime before I move!

  • As John Mayer said it best!Every song is copied, youre kidding yourself if its not,its about how its done.Get over your little difficulties and enjoy!

  • It's funny how in love I am with him....

  • he makes it looks so easy. i love him!!

  • This doesn't really sound like the album original. Same vocals, but different instrumentals.

  • don't get me wrong, i love tallest man but i'm not a big fan of this song, i hear a lot of his other material reused in this song, for example the melody of this song kind of mimics where do my bluebird fly and the the beginning finger pattern and chord are almost identical to sparrow and the medicine, im not dissing his talent or anythin. every great writer does this. if you listen to polly and dumb by nirvana, you'll notice they're the same song

  • @persbol I guess that every artist gets inspiration from other artists, that's the way it all happens :) Thank you for your message.

  • @FlorinSeven Your answer doens't really reply to his point..

  • @victorxb360 Indeed, English not being my main language, I misread the point that he influences himself in his own music ... well, the answer is nearly the same ... I guess that every artist gets inspiration not only from others but also from his own work, that's the way it all happens :) ... it's all an endless modified cycle. Thank you for your message

  • @FlorinSeven Hahaha.. Fair enough, you still misunderstod it though but fuck it!

    Be good mate ;)

  • @persbol the recorded version of this song is way better, its a strummed version and sounds more unique.

  • @persbol

Listen to Girl From the North Country and Boots of Spanish Leather, both from Bob Dylan. They're practically the same thing, yet both still have very distinct identities. It's hard to acknowledge, but songwriting goes past pretty much anything technical.

  • @persbol funny u would mention this, he (the tallest man) has said that he likes to play around with the guitar for hours and suddenly he ends up playing something he really likes, only to realize he wrote it. Another thing he said was that he likes to try different versions of the same song and mess around, I think what your (and he) is talking about is simply the creative process... If someone has a problem with one song resembling another, then thats their f*** problem ;)

  • @ThelastJohnSilver o yea i know there's no problem with it at all, me and my buddy have written a few songs and i notic the same thing too, its bound to happen to anyone.

  • @persbol you should know that most musicians play chord structures in keys that suit their voices. same goes for Nirvana, U2, Greenday, KOL and countless others. As a musician its about what you can change or add on to what you've already done.

The Tallest man plays most of his songs tuned to open D, capo 6 because it suits his voice.

  • @Rawkalways i know that man i'm a musician, i'm just saying even some of the finger picking patterns sound like he used from other songs, but that's bound to happen there's only soo many different picking patterns

  • @persbol Clearly you've never heard the original version of this song which is on his EP. Fool.

  • @tallestfoxes hey ass hole, i'm not dissing the song, so what if i didn't hear it on his ep,fuck you sorry i haven't downloaded it like you probably did, i actually buy cd's you know, to help and respect the artist, so i'm sorry if i haven't stolen it yet like you have .

  • @persbol It's on youtube, champ. I've seen this man play live, don't tell me i don't respect him. Get out.

  • @tallestfoxes get out ? lmao good oneee

  • @persbol I agree, there's only so much you can do.

But in his defense, the album version (which I prefer a LOAD to this fingerpicked version) is a whole lot different.

That has more in common with The Wild Hunt.

    Cheeeers!

  • @MelleB90 agree with the album version part.

  • @persbol That would be true except, I don't know how you don't know this, but over the hills was written way before the sparrow and the medicine. Still you're right about the nirvana

  • @persbol The Tallest Man has similarities within all of his songs, just like every other artist. He tends to use three picking patterns for almost all of his songs with a variation of hammer ons and pull offs. He also uses a lot of the same vocabulary and themes in his songs. But, as you noted, you can say this about any other artist. These similarities in material are what differentiates him and makes him unique. If you read the lyrics alone of this song you have to admit it's pretty awesome.

  • @persbol I understand your point, but I want to make sure you know this song was on a 2006 EP and Bluebird and Sparrow were on his 2008 LP. That doesn't mean he wrote them in that chronological order, but I'd assume this came first.

  • @persbol Yeah I've noticed that too...Also if you listen to Dylan's boots of spanish leather and girl from the north country its literally the exact same melody

  • @Bcal62988 yea man, it happens to everyone. tallest man and dylan are still fuckin amazing can't deny their talent

  • What does he say at 2:34?

    "Good call"?

  • @JonathanMarrero he says "stay sexy, children!"

  • His movement around the stage is something else.

  • Please does anyone know the tuning and chords of the album version of this song? Thank you very much

  • Please does anyone know the tuning and the chords in the album version ? Thank you very much

  • did you film pistol dreams by any chance? I'm dying to hear it onemore time, he played it so damn great there in brussels...

  • I don't think so ... I posted the 3 complete videos that I had. Maybe you can tell me the title of this one because the Tallest Man didn't reply to my mail yet ...

  • oh, well then I'll have to do it with my memories :) And this song is 'Over the hills' but this song is not his debut album 'shallow grave'

  • Thank you ! I'll change the title immediately.

  • no problem! but euhm, I have a question... could you send me the mp3 of this version? I can't find the cd with this song anywhere.... but if it's to much trouble, never mind...:)

  • Sorry, but I don't have the right to do this, the artist only authorised me to publish the videos, not to send the songs in MP3 ... Record it while it plays :)

  • oh, I understand :) that's why I asked... I always intend to do so, but once a concert begins I completely forget ,haha!

    Thanks anyway :)

  • It's from the S/T EP.

  • @barretogc and how about just buying his CDs or songs online and going to see him on stage live. Then, why not, watch the videos online if you want to see him live ?

  • @FlorinSeven i just gave another option...I think this isn't forbidden. Moreover that are many people that cannot buy...
