TV networks are way too HOMOPHOBIC back then. Guess if you watch the entire movie in MUTE you couldn't even tell that Aidan and his partner were gay. The most (barely) intimate moment they shared together is when his partner embraces Aidan with one arm as they walked away...it's just laughable . 80's tv shows sucked for gays! It's a SHAME.
@dcat11114u Just consider TV networks broadcast what it believes its audiences will watch and approve. So really, it was AMERICA who was "way too homophobic back then." And not much has changed... not really.
I am about Aidans age and I remember how excited me and my friends were when we heard that he was going to do this movie.. it was a pretty brave thing to do at the time.
I remember being 12 knowing i was gay, and wanting to see this sooo much! forward 24 years later ! and I have, just as touching as i knew it would be!!
This is a great movie, I remember when the ambulance comes in and the mother tells the NUrse he has AIDS and they RUN out of the house like it's on fire or something, can you imagine that??
An Early Frost is now available on DVD with a wonderful commentary track by Aidan Quinn and writers Ron Cowen and Dan Lipman (who went on to create/produce Showtime's Queer as Folk).

Aiden Quinn seems like he was always typecasted as the villian. He is awesome in this role.

About 25 years ago, my room mate and I were watching TV and this movie came on. We laughed hysterically at it. Pretty callous, huh?

I am afraid I can do better than imagine it; I can remember it. Funeral homes wouldn't bury someone known to be gay; they were afraid of infection.

So many of us have died.Peace and love to all in the Gay community, and to all of those who love and care.

Wonderfully powerful movie. "Torch Song Trilogy" is also very human, although it lacks Aiden Quinn.
Anyone seen AQ in "Stolen Summer"? Good movie, one of the "Green Light" project.
