In fact, if you want to trace it back, you can see similarities with the anti-government partisans who fought against FDR's policies in the 1930s. Indeed, this sentiment goes as far back as the anti-Federalist republicans back at the country's founding - constitutional literalism is a very old idea.

Not every Tea Party member is white and/or old. I've never met one who was racist.
