Hello there! I am a 15 year old aspiring musician, and Liebestraum No.3 is one of the most beautiful pieces I've had the pleasure of playing. I would really appreciate it if you check out my video for this piece on my channel and leave me comments and advice. Thanks!
One of my favorites too! I'm looking to buy a real piano to replace my (one octave short), yamaha keyboard. Do you have any brand/type recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help!
@cmfox3 It all depends on whether you are just learning or you can play already. my baldwin sounds great if you are just starting, pretty cheap too! it's not the best looking piano out there, more of a work horse in the industry. Yamaha's are over rated and i don't think they sound that great. if you can play, and you have the money go buy yourself a model d concert grand steinway!
@alusapoopoo - I can play, but not nearly well enough to warrant a Steinway, yet. I've been looking at real pianos, and I guess I'd rather have a digital one that will never need tuning. But I haven't found a digital piano yet that has the feel of a real piano, so I guess I'll have to compromise one way or the other. Thanks for your comments.
@cmfox3 I know I shouldn't butt-in but I am guessing your one octave short keyboard is a digital piano...(?). If I was you I would still stick with a Yamaha piano. A real paino when tuned sounds great even if it is by a diferent manufacture(unless your ears are picky). I also dig Baldwins, Steinways, and Kohler. But if you are wanting to know about what digital 88 keys to get---I'm alot better with that...
@reyjll - I'm on the fence between real and digital. I have been unable to find a digital piano that has the feel of a real one, but I don't want to be bothered with paying someone to tune a real piano; and that could be a problem since I'm spending an average of 25 hours a week practicing. But, I'm not good enough to spend a fortune on a piano real or digital. For me, practice makes "better" (lol). Any digital piano suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
@cmfox3 I've found the action on the more pricey Roland DPs to feel more natural than the Yamaha DPs (minus the AvantGrand line perhaps, but those are ~$20k!) I haven't played any Kawai digitals however. I suggest looking at the Piano World forums
@cmfox3 Here is the thing... From my trial with the digital pianos I find it hard to get that satisfying sound of a real one. For example I had a Yamaha portable digital piano that went for about $1200, but I was not content with the sound and how the notes flowed together---it even had more features but that was not my beef. My beef was that alot of the digitals sound toyish. I returned it for a cheaper one with less polyphony but it had the sound I was lookin for. FYI: It's an upright piano.
@cmfox3 And if you want to know the digital piano I play, it is called a Yamaha YDP13. They are upright pianos. But from my long experience playing on these things I feel you won't be disapointed. However if you got the cash they have other digital pianos, but they can get real expensive---I would want one if I had the funds. If you are still having issues on picking one out shoot me a reply. Here is a tip: don't buy pianos from the internet unless you are sure you know what it sounds like.
Your first cadenza is veryy sloww, without any emotion, the first and the second part are in a great time, but you have to take care abput your rubatos... Good work.
Well done!! Fabulous indeed!! This a very difficult master-piece, I also play it and I know how difficult, and how much concentration you must put on it. Congratulations!!
This is a music that comes in your soul and let you pacefull and makes you forget all bad things and for some seconds to be in haven. J. Wilson - Fortaleza - Ceará - Brasil.
@bopeng159951 Me too. Just the cadenzas and some of the jumps are difficult - wow it is so bueatiful though! I'll still need a few weeks to perfect it.
It`s one of my favorites too!, I started to learning it but I stoped at min 2:25, I'm going to retake it. I loved the way you played, I'm agree with last post : the most important is to feel the Music. If we want perfection we just have to keep practicing . Greetings!
that was pretty awesome man, maybe bring out the melody a bit more, get a bit more idea of the melody and accompaniment... otherwise yeah it was great :D
come on people...this guy is obviously not van cliburn, but this it you tube, not carnegie hall. give him a break. He enjoys playing the piano and learned this very difficult piece. I applaud him for that. His mistake? posting it on you tube without achieving perfection. That's why I haven't put this piece up here yet. I wouldn't do so unless I played it perfectly. Also, the instrument is VERY important when playing liszt. For this piece, you need an instrument with a warm tone and a..
Finally, as for Liebestraum, I don't think anyone, who has not experienced love and everything that goes with that, should bother trying to play this piece. Liszt's music is transcendent. Music like this goes beyond the technique. If you want to impress me, perform the emotion without letting me know that you are manipulating black and white blocks of wood in order to actuate felt tipped hammers which cause resonance of varying frequencies, resulting in sound
im sorry 2 say but ur right hand is way too loud you gotta bring out the melody more. i performed this at the con recently. its a gerat peice nd not a easy . also u need 2 play the appergio faster. but seriously bring out the melody
:/ This seems more like a video of pride than skill. playing the notes at such a speed and stance makes the song less heart warming. this is supposed to be a bittersweet song of adolescent love.
You don't know what you are talking about. This piece is more difficult then Chopin Ballade. There are some passages that have to be played very quickly, and sometimes you have to spread your left hand fingers to 10 even up to 12 notes (which is almost impossible). The theme goes from right hand to the left, but still has to be bold. Liszt is much more technical then Chopin in general. This guy has not bad technique especially in the left hand, though this performance is not the best I've heard.
Just some advice, I'd practice really slow with a metronome if I were you, to get the rhythm down correctly. The rapid notes starting at 1:12 aren't fast enough or in tempo. You're really close to finishing this, you know almost all the notes. Good luck! :)
there are wayyyyy too many snobs who comment on these types of videos thinking they're the best damn piano players in the world and think they can just correct every tiny thing ever. the point is to enjoy the music, not to criticize the person who plays it. and by the way, this is one of the most difficult pieces out there, so just the fact that he can play it is impressive. so you guys all need to just shut up.

@dothatjont555 There should be MUCH more people like you on youtube! you can tell someone off and tell them to be nice, but can say it in a mostly polite manner (except for the shut up lol) thank you for your comment. We need more of you people in youtube.
@dothatjont555 I guess everyone is able to make a point, even if he is not a piano player; if someone is rude you don't have to be the same way with him. Just try to be humble and well-educated.
@dothatjont555 man in that vid i see a man playing piano, im pretty sure he can stand up for himself. and jeez man theres nothin wrong with some constructive criticism. and im pretty sure its his choice if he wants to take it. sooo wat gives u the rite to say anything about the people givin him some advice on how to improve, this jonhing guy may even take the advice to help himself play better.
@dothatjont555 - I agree. Jon is just outstanding. He should be doing his own concerts and charging $50 a head. I wonder how many of these 149 dislikes could play this even half as well. Sheesh!
Your right hand 2,3,4,5 fingers are hitting the keys to hard.. you have to lighten up. The melody is mostly played by your thumbs, and I'm sure you understand this part.
And yes, I think you have to play it about as 120% fast as what you're playing right now.
Are you having problems with the transitions? you seem to have a little difficulty when you hit octaves at the far ends of the keyboard..
If he was, then one key point of romantic-style music is tempo rubato, or free tempo. In that case, this guy is allowed to play at whatever tempo he wants (if it matches his interpretation of the music, that is).
this is my favorite classical piece.....i learned to play an easier version when i was 7, but i really wanna learn how to play this- the real deal!!:D
It's a hard piece and it took me a long time to practice as well. You've done well though I can spot a few mistakes when you did the long run. Maybe try to be more graceful there and the mistake will be less obvious. Well done nonetheless
ahh...everyone is a critic on Youtube. Well I WISH I could play like that. "keep your wrists straight"..."bad Piano"..."Bad playing, but Good Piano"...............whatever -these people are too focused on themselves to give a compliment where a compliment is due. Great watching you play. Thanks for sharing! You are a very good pianist!
i think they're some wrong notes. he plays good, but maybe you say this is fantastic because you cannot play like this, but i imagine there's people who plays it better, and so they can make critics.
anoyone knows where I can get a tutorial o maybe some close up to the piano ??? Video of course... I wanna play this really bad..but I need some help XD and I dont wanna go to classes -.-"

I thought Liszt was a Romantic composer...?
If he was, then one key point of romantic-style music is tempo rubato, or free tempo. In that case, this guy is allowed to play at whatever tempo he wants (if it matches his interpretation of the music, that is).

hey .. very very nice :)
it is possible to send me the notes? i really want to learn this beautiful song and i can´t find the sheets :(

susii8720 2 years ago
Hmm, you hold it in too much. For example at 1.57 JUST GIVE IT OUT! Liszt made this when chopin died (I think, don´t really remember)
I have a picture of liszt in my head playing this and he really gives out the feeling.
Man just give it loose and be wild, emotional. I promise it would give it more music.
addeex1 2 years ago
Well I think he was trying but that's no Steinway so I would think that if it was however, it would sound very musical.
korlock3000 2 years ago
If you just turn off the sound you see how careful he´s playing! -_-

You are a very good pianist!

let people say what they want.
i think they're some wrong notes. he plays good, but maybe you say this is fantastic because you cannot play like this, but i imagine there's people who plays it better, and so they can make critics.
starspath89 2 years ago
You are free to say whatever you want ...and I'm free to criticize you too ...for being overly critical.
tneighbors 2 years ago
yes, i agree with you. you are free to criticize me, as i'm free to do the same.

The piece really gets difficult after the first little cadenza, then it is extremely difficult to make each note ring true. xXx

Yes I'm trying too. It is taking forever to play clearly and emotionally, though 'good things come to those that wait'. xXx

yes, you're right!

Good job, one thing to work for is making the jumps faster, so you don't have a huge break between them.
