  • I'm an Army Junior ROTC cadet, planning to enlist in the Marine Corp out of high school. My father was in the Coast Guard rank of Petty Officer 2nd class, he was to save lives, fight criminals, stop drug traffickers, ect. He ended up with PTSD as at one time he failed to save a life. He never got over the fact that because of his mistake someone never got to see their family again. I respect the coast guard as a full service branch unlike most people.

  • Well Done! Set the Special Sea Detail.

    SP

    mw

  • thats my job its the best but the boot camp is hard i gerante to stay fit

  • All coast gaurds reading this rock on

  • go uscg

  • To all men and women in the coast guard, you are all awesome and i hope to eventually be a pilot in the coastguard.

  • when i was 10, i lived next door to the coast guards base. i would watch them and evenually made friends with some of them, they were nothing short of totaly and complete gentelman in every sence of the word.

i loved you guys then and i love you now that your gone.

  • this remind me of when my dad whos in the Coast Guard went to Iraq for 10 months and while he was in the gulf for 2 months

  • U.S. Coast Guard Rules, by one of the friendest service

  • Yes I agree, the Coast Guard is often overlooked - but has an important roll to play with only 35,000 members. I was in Nam in the 60's so hard to beleive but understand that when we came home many people never heard of us Coasties. We forgive them then and are so grateful that the men and women are finally getting recongnized for their profesionalism and courage-- Sepmer Parutus

  • @192384214 So were you in Nam as a Coastie?

  • @20031200 If you don't understand history, I'll give you a very brief lesson. Yes the USCG was in vietnam, they trained a lot of navy petty officers and ensigns in shallow water operations. The USN SEALs are very grateful for their knowledge.

  • @XGCScrappy Yes I'm aware that the CG was in Viet Nam. Glad I wasn't! I joined the Navy Reserve so not to be drafted and be sent somewhere safe and it worked.

  • 6505 1705 6017 and crews you were never forgotten and will always be remembered

  • My son recently graduated from bootcamp & now in MLE "A" school. He is loving this new adventure & is taking a lot of pride in the job. Way to go, USCG!!!!

  • Great video. My son is in MLE "A" school right now and is loving & taking great pride in his new adventure. Love the USCG!!!

  • Nicely done. Tragic that the Coast Guard was not represented at the concert alongside other services, but that's been typical since I served back in the 80s and even before. Unlike other services the Coast Guard doesn't delineate between wartime and peacetime; they are "at war" 365 days of the year with dopers, criminals, and (when lives are threatened) nature itself. Other services prepare for something they hope will never happen, the Coast Guard prepares for what they know WILL happen.

  • @sparqi Your correct the CG has largely been overlooked by our gov't and the other military services. It took a diaster like Hurricane Katrina to show the world the true benefits that the CG has too offer. Were finally receiving the respect we deserved all along.

  • what about the guys on the boats?

  • Uncle Sam's Confused Group, and damn proud of it!!!

  • lolol-I heard USMC stands for uncle sam's misguided children xD

  • Almost joined the coast guard, then i decided i wanted to travel around the world and the Navy was best for that.

    Go Navy!!!

    Go CG!!!

    GO USMC!!!

    Go AF!!!

    Go Army!!!

  • All into Kilts to, My lad? Frian

  • I was in the Coast Guard. Not many people know what this branch is about or what we do. We place or lives on the line so others may go home. God bless our brothers and sisters.

  • Do foreigners have to have green cards to join the USCG??? Or can they just have alien citizenship?

  • i think you could do it if you had Dual citizenship but i think you have to be a US citizen

  • Okay, because I have dual citizenship.

  • @arnie228 sir it's a great honor to see somebody who puts there lives in danger to help others.and to stand up and be proud to be in the coast guard.my mom was in the coast guard and I respect the hell out of you guys. so for what it's worth god bless you all

  • @arnie228 how old do you have to be to be a rescue swimmer?

  • The Coast Guard is awesome!

im hoping to be part of it when i get older

  • Me to. Hoping to be a HELICOPTER pilot for it.

  • we do it all combat, mother nature and more.... look it up M.S.S.T. or D.O.G. lol how do people not know this...

  • the uscg is just as important as any other service and to me they are even more important because they go and fight mother nature and that is the most powerful thing in the world and when all else fails they step up to the plate they go out alone where the nearest help is over a hundred miles away but they stick together as brothers and sisters and never accept defeat

  • Great video great sounds

  • usaann0829: Where do you get off being so righteous! At least "schwaan2524" is serving her country in something she enjoys that benefits us all. One doesn't need too serve in combat too do their duty. I spent 20yrs. active and never saw combat and proud of that fact!

  • Yeah, you are right she gets to benefit by being female and never doing any real combat and still be called military! SHe talks a good game but I bet if you got her in real war time she would cry all the way home. SO what that she can stand deck with any man, CAN she fight. Most woman cant! I bet she cant even swim

  • usaann0829; I'm sure schwaan2524 is a swimmer. Particularly so since she is a Coxswain. No one graduates boot camp in either the CG or Navy if they fail the swimmer requirement. Give this gal the benefit of the doubt. I think the CG needs more like her.

  • She may well be a rescue swimmer, though I think there are currently less than 15 women in the rescue swimmer program. SO I mean no disrespect to her when I say that just becuase she passed a swim test, doesnt make her a rescue swimmer. Being able to pass a swim test (which all members of the armed services as well as the CG have to do) doesnt mean shes an AST. The CG rescue swimmer attrition rate for women is higher than for men because they often lack the upper body strength. Just a

  • FrozenEMT: From what I'm picking up about "schwaan2524" is the fact that she's a coxswain at a small boat station. And not likely a designated rescue swimmwer.

  • difference in the way the muscular anatomy of men and women is constructed. A female AST trying to save a live victim needs twice the effort and technique as her male counter part to be effective at what the Swimmers do. I do think that anyone who makes it through Swimmer school, regardless of the fact that they are Homeland Security and not DOD, ranks right up there with the mental toughness of a Seal, Ranger or Combat Controller.

  • im a girl and i would definatly not start crying all the way home.

  • My husband is BM1, Petty Officer 1st Class. He out ranks me. But just to give you a laugh if you are true military, I am four foot eleven and weight 105 pounds and I could take any MAN in my SECTOR including my Husband and I will stand DECk with any MAN... I am Coxon and I will stand proud!

  • thanks for serving ma'am

  • Proud to serve and thank you for your support! I Love this land and I LOVE the mighty BLUE!

  • genes81 and schwaan2524; have either of you characters served in the military? If so what branch and your rate.

  • Been serving for over 5 years in the USCG, Petty Officer Second Class, BM2. Boot Camp Cape May, NJ, BM school Virginia, AST school Georgia. I am only a character when requested of me SIR. Any other questions?

  • schwaan2524: Glad to read that you've done something postive with your life. And addressing me as SIR wasn't necessary as I served my 20yrs yrs. between the Navy/Coast guard as a enlisted.

  • My grandfather did 25 years Navy. I am proud to serve with you! Give a shout out if you need me on the Mighty Blue! Heading for Alaska in the next 3 months to serve another four years!

  • schwaan2524: where in Alaska? I was stationed at CGAirsta Sitka from oct'77 to July'79. Alaska beautiful state. But I wasn't a hunter nor a fisherman and got pretty boring there.

  • My husband continues AST and I am Bm2 so it looks like we are headed for 17th discrict, Kodiak. He wants to continue LE and AST and I want to continue Boarding and LE! I am 24 and my husbansd is 28, I dont think it will get boring for us, JUST colder water!!

  • schwaan2524: It's good that you both have complementing areas of work. Never made it too Kodiak. Was stationed in Sitka as a SK3.

  • Sitka is in the 17th discrict. Did you like SK3?

  • Schwaan2524: Sitka is a small community on Barnoff Island located in SE Alaska. I got transferred there out of SK school. I liked the job of SK particularly as Avaiation Supply as "Black Shoes" get treated a little better. Short stint in Sitka as now former wife deserted me. Transferred out on Hardship transfer to CG Hdqtrs/Wash DC.

  • You as SK have my Back! My husband was riding Dallas for the last 4 years until she got put to the yard and as SK you saved his ASS when he coming back from Georgia!! My uncle is a Chief out of DC, where ya at, I will give a hollar out for ya!

  • Schwaan2524: Retired as a SK1 in '94 after spending 2 Active Navy and 18 Active CG. Currently reside 45 mi due west of Mississippi river in Iowa.

  • I am only 24 and BM2 and a female, whats your rate soul?? Never do hardship man, SUCK it up!

  • schwaan2524; Living off base in alaska as a PO3 isn't cheap. Would have stuck it out but service cuts entitlements when a spouse departs. Would have had too pay for HHG storage and move into barracks not a good deal.

  • First off IDIOT, I was the first to say that we have the Marines back. SECOND, I am not 34 I am 24! SO back off you wanna be! Let me give u a litle history: Latter day Coastguardsmen have carried Semper Paratus into other forms from "Simply Forgot Us, where they perpetuated spirit of the motto by creating a noir pride in their own self

resolve to continue without external support, to the selfless epitome "You have to go out, but you

    don't have to come back."

  • OK buddy, this ends now! You are obviously an ignorant 24 year old that likes to impersonate military personnel! Why dont you tell me what company you were in and where you are stationed? I'll look you up and then maybe I will believe you are in the guard! What rate are you? Where was your A-School? I'll look you up on Global. You must know what Global is right? CLOWN!

  • As a matter of fact, I don't even care if you think you are in the CG! Its just funny how kids like you try to lie to people to sound cool and people like me that actually do the job, dont care to brag about shit!!

  • well said!

  • Better get your facts straight, because everything I said is CORRECT!!

  • Dude your an idiot! Its latin.........look it up!

  • he is right he has us The MARINES Back and we think them for that

  • I can't stand it when people do that.....its the 5 services retards get it right....Coast guard, USMC, Navy, Army, Air Force....

  • Actualy, there is only the United States Coast Guard and those who wish they were!

  • Too much band, too little CG.

  • y r there different types of helicopters used by the coast guard , the HH-65 (dolphin)and Jayhawks do the same thing don't they, rescue people using winches

  • Different fuel loads, weight capabilities, flight ranges, etc. Same purpose, different situations.

  • The Dualphin is for close to shore missins and the Jayhawk is for missins that are in really really bad weather and are waaaayyy off shore.

  • hey guys. i dont remember but in the manual doesnt it say that the HH-60j jayhwk weill float in water BUT for a very very short amount of time? i cant rememeber, im going to look it up later.

  • How do you forget something like that?

  • because im not an AST

  • AST's have nothing to do with that. 60's do not float. They sink like a rock. 65's have floats but it only slows the inevitable to make it easier to get out!

  • 5 years 2 mounths and 14 days after boot, 4 ' Winged S,s " and 12 & 1/2 survivors + 2lil, doggies in the ol, HH52a Sea Guardian then 20 years later I,m still proud I served my country in the USCG. ! aS THEY SAY " Ya gotta go out son, ya don,t gotta come back ! " SEMPAR PARATUS is their Guide. Hit the deck and gimmy 20 Boot !

  • been serving 4 years and 6 months and you sound like and ASS !!! We do not say say, "ya gotta go out son, ya don't gotta come back". Sempar Paratus is not our guide it is SEMPER PARATUS and it means, "You have to go out, but you don't have to come back" It also means that we stand ready no matter what the cause, home soil or abroad we SERVE! We protect the USA borders but we will go wherever we are needed. We have the marines back, we got them covered!

  • I am just a german rescue swimmer but after having seen the USCG in New York last summer I am proud to be what I am. Of course I am not that kind of Swimmer, jumping out of helos, but in fact I think saving lives is the same all around the world...

    Semper Paratus!

    So others may live.

    greetings,

    Psyc

  • I'm a rescue swimmer too in the Netherlands. Saving lives is the most beatifull job in the entire world. (At least that's what I believe.) Even if it's done by volunteers. (Like me)

    So others may live!

    Greetings, Jeffrey

  • futer job here

  • USCG ALL THA WAY SEMPER PARATUS!!

  • yea COAST GUARD ALL THE WAY!!!

  • Coast Guard aviators go through Naval Flight School in Pensacola, FL, the same flight school as Navy, and Marines.

  • If you want to fly in the Coast Guard you should go talk to a recruiter. You'll need a 4 year degree or you can also apply to the Coast Guard Academy. They might have an ROTC program ?But believe me it is possible to be a pilot in the USCG. The Navy/Marines have the hardest pilot programs then Airforce/Army/USCG in no real order. I am currently in AFROTC and becoming a pilot is just as tangible as becoming a doctor or a lawyer. Don't let any one tell you, you cant do it.

  • Please explain to me how the navy/marines have the hardest "pilot programs". Where did you get the facts to make this statement? Im pretty sure you just pulled it out of your ass. considering that coast guard pilots go through the same flight school the navy/marines go through. Also i am currently a warrant officer in the US army going through flight school and i would like to know exactly how are school isnt as good as everyone else's considering we teach air force helo pilots here.

  • hell yea

  • USCG!!! Better then The rest! SO OTHERS MAY LIVE

  • well said bro

  • i AM going to be a Coast Guard

  • cool

  • 23 year retired vet, 17 with the Coast Guard. Absolutely the best decision I ever made. There is so much honor and pride in this service. We save lives......literally!!

  • SEMPER PARATUS...God Bless the families of the H65 crew that was killed in Hawaii.. "SO OTHERS MAY LIVE"

  • Dude the Coast Guard is so amazing. I am a rescue helicopter pilot and have been for 3 years. My first rescue(s) was during Katrina. I am going to New Orleans once again to save lives. It is such a good feeling to be like the victims' guardian angel. So if you dont like the US Coast Guard, FUCK OFF!!!!!!!

  • Your FUCK OFF gives all the USCG a bad name!! You are no more a rescue pilot for the USCG then I am the tooth fairy!! I am in for 5 years and I know a coastie and YOU are NO coastie!!

  • I hope one day soon you will be able to walk into a store and there is AT LEAST the same amount of a selection as all the other branches. I go to Cape May tues. the 26 cant wait to be a coastie like my grandfather and uncle who did 20 years

  • if I count back my dates right, you would have reported 4 classes ahead of my daughter. Hope you had as wonderful of an experience as she did

  • alot of the coast guard have a jay hawk and it costs like 2 million dollars

  • The Pentagon may say #5, but the USCG is #1!

  • amen

  • this is a great video, it symbolizes much of what we dont see on the front lines of Iraq, but it shows how important the coast guard is.

  • Man, I can't believe you didn't include the Coast Guard Marine Safety community in this! I'm going to make my own video highlighting their role in keeping America safe.

Given, it will mostly be shots of people sitting at desks drinking coffee and sending emails, but it will represent the M field!

  • The Coast Guard is the best!!!

God bless that men and women!!

  • Best pilots in the armed forces

  • NightStalkers

  • Agreed!

  • It is completely messed up how the USCG wasnt represented. I either want to be a USCG Boarding officer or a Navy VBSS team member. Which do you think is better? They they both do pretty similiar things, so i dont kno which is better.

  • I want to be a pilot in the coast guard.

i was thinking about going to the airforce and transferring but after reading gandhimtb's comment idk. What should i do?? or what can i do?

  • If you want to be a pilot in the coast guard then I dont even see a reason for trasferring from the Air Force. Just go coast guard if thats what you want

  • hey i dont know if this is true or not, but i heard that you can switch branches and spend your remaining years of service in that branch if your a pilot, but you go down 1 in rank. does anybody know?

  • they only take 3 pilots a year, barely anything, dont go into the army airforce marines or navy flight program thinking you can transfer into the coast guard flight program.

  • do you know whether or not it is a lot harder to try and fly for the navy or the coast guard?

  • coast guard is the hardest branch of military to fly in. then Airforce, then Navy & Marines and then Army

  • Trying to figure out why flying a screaming shit can (what we call the 65) is harder then flying an Apache in combat. I am not a pilot, but a little common sense tells me that combat operations are a little harder...

  • i dont know what the hell you just said but i honestly think Coast guard is harder to fly in mainly because helicopters have to fly out into horrible storms and this happens almost daily you dont see army/airforce/marines helicopters up there all the time in the QUIET blue skies

  • What makes me laugh is airforce grounds flights for bad weather when coast guard goes out in it and saves lives wile out there. CG is much harder and come from skill being able to navigate and fly in the weather.

  • maybe not but you do see them flying and doing medevacs when getting shot at...all branches go through hell never forget that

    god bless every branch

    HOOAH!!!!

  • flying an apache in combat is a adrenaline rush but its not as techiical as hovering in a storm over a ship deloying trained rescue swimmer inside safely. flying a apache you are performing destruction aswell as watching ur own back while eliminating rival forces wich is awesome but USCG pilots seem to have a harder job maybe not as crazy but just as life threatning. I think the question is do you want to take a life or save while defending your country.

lol i hope i dont sound dumb cya

  • Yeah man, would you rather save a life or take one?

  • @usvibootylicious Yep you sound dumb. But this video rocks. Lets thank pfloydal for it. Thumb up the video and add to favorites. Thumb up booty too :)

  • My Physics Teacher who flew 65's for 5 years explained to us the most dangerous aspect a helicopter encounters after the recent crash. They use 50% engine when just normally flying, but when you take them into a low hover they use over 90% engine. This is when most crashes occur especially in a low hover when you can't recover from an engine failure or a pressure change. Add that to the fact that it is usually in a Storm and you'll understand why they are considered some of the best aviators.

  • They have re-engined the 65s within the past 5 or 6 years, they are much more powerful than before now and this is no longer true.

  • Well yeah they've updated them, but the principle remains the same.

  • Thank God that someone gets it. Semper Paratus forever!!! Thank God im a Coastie!!!

  • Go Coast Guard, I'm in the Navy but cool video go Coast Guard!!!

  • "SEMPER PARATUS"--ALWAYS READY

"SO OTHERS MAY LIVE"--RESCUE SWIMMERS MOTTO

very good video, my dad is retired coast guard.

  • so others may live is the motto for the USAF Special forces commonly knowns as Parajumpers.

  • also the rescue swimmers..i know that about the USAF im in it lol

  • So Others May Live.

    Hoo-Rah

  • thanks to all the coasties who keep us safe everyday,

    semper paratus

  • MK2 Locke

    Semper Paratus

  • Great video for an OUTSTANDING service. Semper Paratus Coasties.

  • united states coast guard is the best

  • i really think that without us costies or nation would turn to shit. semper peratus

  • your so right with that first coment about "we can't have that," in the clip CG cant be forgeten, and i dont care who the F** you are CG members are not lazy not by a long shot.

mnysle, you are half right, you get to chose if you are at the top of your class, and i mean school not race, and the lower people get told where to go

  • I accidently posted the comment to fast but what does it take to be a Coastguard rescue swimmer/helicopter? I want to be one of those two.

  • it takes years of training and school. you don't just join and get to be a swimmer or a pilot. you can look up web sites that tell you all about it. they mention a-schools and officer training schools you have to go through first.

  • I plan on going to the coastguard to. I want to be a helicopter pilot or a rescue swimmer.

  • anybody know what you have to score on the ASVAB to join the coast guard

  • you have to score at least a 40 on the ASVAB to join. that is higher than some other branches because they are considered an "elite" branch of the military

  • Im thinking of joining. HOORAH!

p.s.- usa is the greatest country on earth!

  • I may koin when I become older too..I have been around water my whole life and really want to join....Hoorah!!

  • Finally a vid that shows what we do, awsome vid

  • The most under-appreciated service!! We are the only service with a dual mission; able to do U.S. Missions and overseas missions. We are smaller than NYPD, but do more missions daily than other services. Proud to be a Coastie, the only service where reservists are recalled and sent right to work...no need to train when deploying!!! Go do your job and be proud!! Semper Paratus...

  • Thanks for uploading this!

I seriously appreciate this cool MV

  • LOVE THIS VIDEO! I don't know what it is...just because the Coast Guard isn't totally combat oriented, there are so many people who don't see it as one of the armed forces!

"So others may live" sounds damn good to me! I am proud to have served....

  • The Coast Guardmen are real AMERICAN HEROS they save life and only take it to protect it... they are my heros truly noblist branch of the military...

  • alot of people think the coast guard is useless untill they are the ones in trouble. im planing to go to the coast guard myself HOORAH!

  • Very well put together movie, thanks for all you guys do!

  • HOORAH thats marines buddy or is it both weell anyways for the heck of it hoorah love the song im thing about joing the coast gaurd thats in the great lakes takes the st lawernce canal

  • finally someone who understands what we do and appreciates us HOORAH!
