Hey man, where can I find those gloves? I've been wanting to get my hands on a pair of those to go with my gear I'll get together in the near future after I get a few of my guns upgraded.
@danieldefenseM4 I think we started this one at maybe 15 yards and worked back to 50 yards. For pretty much every drill or new technique, we'd start at the 3 yard line and shoot a certain amount of rounds/repetitions, and then move to the 7, 10, 15, 25, 35, and 50 yard lines and shoot the same amount, then discuss what we did and go reload and hydrate to prepare for the next drill. We'd go through almost exactly 6 magazines (180 rounds) for each drill/technique. I really liked how it all worked.
@vlun121 Thanks, it's a Blue Force Gear UDC single point sling. So far its the best single point sling by far that I've ever used! I was running the Magpul MS2 sling for the longest time, but hated how think it was and how it would get twisted up sometimes which makes it hard to put on, and would come loose so I had to tape it up... it sucked. But I like using the Magpul ASAP end plate.
Now Magpul is about the release the newer, much-improved MS3 sling, but I'm staying with my BFG UDC sling :)
I see you use the T1 quite a bit. I have an M3. I am looking at a Trijicon TA44S-10 for my new 14.5 Middy from BCM. What are your thoughts on that optic? I like the BAC-both eyes concept, the eye relief and the circle dot reticle.
@DennyDucet Although of course everyone's preferences vary, I would personally never pay that much money for a 1.5X magnification optic. I'd either get a TA33 3X model, a standard TA01-NSN 4X, or one of the new 1-4X variable optics. That 1.5X mag is just not enough ass to do anything that a standard red dot can't do. I was engaging 10" steel plates using my Aimpoint Micro T1 with ease out to 350 yards last weekend at a Pat McNamara TAPS class. Even I was surprised by that. Of course YMMV.
@RetreatHell Thanks for the reply bud. I really like the Idea of battery free operation and the low magnification for quick target acquisition. I considered the TA01NSN as well as the 33. After using and looking through the 44 I really grew to love it the other day. The 20 MOA Donut with the 2 MOA dot makes a quick reticle for up close and distant shots. My friend was drilling targets at 300 plus with it as well. Its bombproof too. Lets pretend money is no consideration. Thanks.
Hey bro, I'm Infantry in the Army, I ship to basic in June. Do you think infantryman should practice with a rifle that would be just like one they would have on patrol or do you think it doesnt matter that much?
@Glockcrazy19 That would be most ideal, but training with any type of mostly mil-spec AR15/M4 blaster will always make you a better and more effective shooter.
@MrM2hb I travel from 2-3 hours away, depending on class location. Classes are VERY RARELY local, man. Also, there probably are classes around where you live, bro. Go to Grey Group Training's website and search around for classes within several hours of your location. I know there will be awesome classes around Portland in 2012.
It may be inconvenient to have to travel, but well worth it!
awesome! I'm pleased to see you uploading more vids lately. Quick question for you. I notice you use your thumb to release the bolt as opposed to slapping it with your palm. I'm aware of the whole gross motor skills vs fine motor skills debate, but I was curious on your take. I went through a handgun course where we had to draw and dry fire for 5000 reps. They taught to use the slide release rather than rack the slide because they believed repetition / muscle memory was superior...
@rjcarrillo1911 There's always ongoing debates on this. Jeff teaches using the CH to release the bolt on an AR, and not the bolt catch/release. But I personally never had issues with hitting the bolt release in combat. Of course Jeff has been in MANY more engagements than me and fired way more rounds downrange, so I trust him. However, I've tried using that method and would just fuck it up and sometimes cause malfunctions doing it. So I just do what works best for me, which is the bolt release.
@rjcarrillo1911 As far as using my thumb instead of slapping it with my palm, I think slapping is pointless. I've seen over and over guys having to slap the side of their damn gun twice because they missed the small bolt release pad the first time. If you're gonna use the bolt release, all you gotta do is insert the mag and ensure it seats properly, and you're thumb is already and inch or so from the bolt release pad, so just press it and you're ready to engage the target(s). Pretty simple.
@rjcarrillo1911 Oh yeah, in regard to the handgun, I'm still personally trying to figure out for myself which works best and is more efficient for the majority of situations and time. I don't feel I have enough rounds downrange with my Glock 19 or M&P9 to confidently give you a solid answer.
I'm certainly no expert and have an ass-ton more to learn myself. So I'm not gonna try and give you some bullshit answer like I know everything or something, because I certainly do not :)
@RetreatHell right...after going through multiple schools, you've got to go with what works best. I can't remember where I learned it, but I've been using the palm slap for a good while now. Working the slide on the pistol is something that was engrained in me at an academy, but after going through a pistol course, I reverted back to the slide release. Using the charging handle doesn't make much sense to me with a bolt locked to the rear.
Nice stuff. I need to do some of this stuff. How are those oakley pilot gloves holding up? I just bought some. That is also very good instructor advice, not that I need to tell you that. And lol at learning has occurred.
@navyman8903 Thanks. Yeah Jeff Gonzales is a great dude! He's an amazing instructor, no doubt due to all his time spent in NSW. He got a ton of experience throughout his career as a Frogman and is still always in touch with his former community as well as some current Teams. So he's constantly able to get new intel on techniques and procedures being used right now and will apply them (within OPSEC reason of course) to some of his training. Jeff's a top notch Instructor and knows his shit.
@aaadream They're those same Oakley combat glove as issued to our war fighters in Afghanistan and Iraq. Been using the same pair for 2 years now and I really like them! However, they're too pricey. I'm buying some of the Mechanix tactical style gloves this month and will try them out. I see a lot of guys in classes running them, so they're probably pretty damn good.
You're like a machine - you don't even blink between rounds :) So is "jerking" the trigger the unintentional sideways application of force on the trigger? (Versus snatching as mentioned in the video?)
@DagaYute lol, well thanks!! Yes, I would assume that jerking would apply to when you aren't pressing the trigger straight back to the rear, and instead veer slightly off left, which breaks your shot to the left as well. Hope that was a decent explanation. Hard to explain sometimes without showing.
im gonna try that., i never thought to use my dummy rounds to practice double feeds so i dont damage any ammunition., thx for posting

@MrFreightliner09 I just buy them straight from Oakley, but I'm sure they could be found cheaper on eBay or somewhere else.
