My audizine name is TCHUN003. Youtube won't let me leave a comment with the link, but the thread is titled: Installed an electric cutout on my downpipe
Great news!!! The turndown COMPLETELY solved my vibration problems. I also didn't have enough room for a turndown so I put cutout closer to the downpipe and turned it at an upward angle. I then had a custom turndown welded onto the flange that came with the cutout. Everything is tucked inside the heat shield underneath the car so you can't even see that I have a cutout or turndown unless you get the car on ramps. Are you on Audizine? I can send you pics of my setup to show you what I mean.
That's really great ews. Clever that you turned it at an upward angle to save space! Yes, I am on Audizine, do you have a thread up? I'll check it out soon.
I just installed a DMH cutout on my B8A4 downpipe and everything is great except I'm getting pretty bad vibrations WOT with the cutout open. Do you think adding a turndown pipe would reduce the vibrations? Have you had a problem with this? Thanks
Yes I have the same issue, the vibrations get quite violent especially in my car, and things inside the cabin start to vibrate as well (paneling) at different frequencies. As for the turndown pipe, I don't believe there is any room to weld one on without scraping against the pavement. I was going to do the same thing but had that exact problem. The opening (cutouts) are still in the same, so a turndown pipe still wouldn't solve it.
Hey Mas, Im interested in a mod like this for my S5, that is still being built with delivery sometime in February hopefully. Is it possible to have a cutout installed to any exhaust with the ease of an adjustable button. I have that setup in my panamera turbo, but its part of the sport exhaust. Im interested in having a cutout installed with an AWE Touring Exhaust.
Congrats on the S5, you'll have a blast with the car. Yes, for the most part it can go on any exhaust system. However, European cars tend have less room underneath so installing the valves was a bit tricky for that reason. Your turbo's OEM sport exhaust is most likely a more conducive setup right from the factory, where you don't experience power loss/gains when opening the valve, strictly just a difference in sound. That's what makes this setup different.
Awesome dude.... Question.... where did u install the cut outs in relation to the cats and resonator..... im interseted in putting some on my Benz CLK 500 but im concerned on the placement if it will be TOO loud.... thx in advance
Heyy bro, i have a few questions for you haha umm your audi s5 does it waste a lott of gas? like your s6? because i have a range rover sport and im wondering if it spends more/less or as much and id like to know about the drive? huge difference between i and the s6 sedan?
It depends how you drive it. If you drive spiritedly, then it will go through gas very quickly. The S6 V10 engine goes through gas a lot faster than the V8.
@maserati48 Can you please send me a message about how and where to get this done? I own a 2011 Black s5 with Prestige. Thanks! is it worth this or just a new exhaust system?
Got a third and hopefully final question....the button for the cutouts, is it a "always on-always off" type of button, it is it a "neutral type" that you press and hold one side to open, and press to other side to close? Reason why i am asking is cause I wanted to place my button in the control panel where there is a plastic piece where a button could go (right underneath the CD player buttons) I could try to make a custom button to fit in there
I imagine it would be significantly louder. As far as power gains, I've noticed nothing different. When they're open, it actually may even incur a slight loss on power. The fun factor is tremendous though. It really depends on what you're looking for. It is certainly doable on the S6 though.
I have few questions for you...first of great mod. And i read your forum posts...
when closed, is the sound in the cabin lauder than stock? or does is sound as if u didnt change a thing.? Im asking cause I saw you said that when it is open, it gets really laud in the cabin.
Also, do u know if u gettin better or worse gas mileage? or there is no effect.
I love the sound, and im looking to do this, but i am concerned it would take away from the beautiful silent comfort when needed.
Hi there, thank you! When the valves are closed, it sounds as if absolutely nothing changed from stock. It's very quiet, and you hear purely the engine growling. When open, it's incredibly loud, but not uncomfortably loud if you know what I mean. When open, I've noticed the mileage decrease a bit, even when driving peacefully and not climbing gears and revving high. The silent comfort will in fact be there, just at the press of a button. That's what makes this mod so incredible.
@maserati48 Thanx for responding. I appreciate the info. looks like you posted on the forum in april? so its been almost a year since you had this mod. Any problems? Electrical or rust or any sort of thing.
You should shoot a video from the inside of the car as well for sound ;)
would be great to see this in person. Doubt anyone around me has this mod. I live in CT, and i get skeptical when it comes to adding aftermarket parts on expensive cars. Would hate to have the valves get stuck open...
No problems as of yet. Everything is functional and works smoothly. I will be going back to my mechanic to do a check-up and make sure everything is ok just to be safe. In the near future, I will be replacing the butterfly flaps since they've taken a little abuse from scraping over speed bumps and such, but nothing serious at all, just minor air leakage. No electrical problems at all either. If you'd like to check out the cabin noise, look up my video "BMW E39 M5 vs Audi S5" First one

It's a neutral type. You must press and hold on for the open or close position to be achieved. in other words, can leave it semi-open or semi-closed.

Yep, everything is bone stock with a butterfly valve welded on right after the primary cats.
