sorry you lost a great dog.I had a dog given to me it was two.It had heartworms but survived the treatments.We do give deheartworm medications.But who had the dog prior never had.I saved a few strays too. We been very kind to animals.Again so sorry for your loss.
My dog..Gotti...also has heart worms....I found out about them last year. He was my first pet, and I really was not informed enough to know about what it took to take care of a pet and make sure that he was safe at all times. I paid over $1500 for treatment, but he really doesn't seem to be doing better...but I was also he told he wasn't doing bad enough to worry about putting him to sleep.....so I am just thankful for however much time I have left with him

I'm so sorry both for your dog & you. I just found out that our dog has heartworms (2 days after his annual physical. We are going to the vet first thing tomorrow to find out exactly what's up & get him some treatments started. He is young (5) and healthy so hopefully all will go well but it's still very difficult. my puppy i adopted is positive, luckly the vet said her heart sounded very strong. she hasn't had heartworm for more then a year, she begins adulticide in 4 months, she is on her doxycycline to prevent infection from bacteria by microfilaria and the adults. doxycycline also makes the adult worms sterile. puppy is also on preventive 2 times per month for 4 months to kill the microfilaria. she is 1 1/2 year old rottweiler. i got her from a rescue who lied about her heartworm status.

I am in the process of a very aggressive non-chemical treatment and so far so good! I pray that I can give Remy some more good years of frolic and fun(he's 9yrs old) and he seems to know that I am pulling out all the stops I can to get these sickening and downright horrible parasites from his body! I feel your loss for your pet, for those that really love them(some will get rid of the animal at first sign of trouble!) they are family not an inconvienence! My Remy is the baby I didn't have!
Was your dog on heartworm prevention? I got a rescue dog and she tested heartworm positive. This test should be done every year along with a monthly prevention pill (Interceptor). My dog had the treatment and the Interceptor company paid some of the treatment cost. Since she was a rescue they only paid a portion. They also gave me a year supply of Interceptor free. Regular vet care can prevent this. Although some dogs die during treatment. My girl is heartworm free!!! So sorry for your loss.

my dog is heartworm positive but she is getting her shots of immiticide the middle of next month. she is currently on antibiotics. she's is not showing any symptoms yet but i had her annual heartworm test done last month and that's how i found out she is positive. i'm glad i found out about it early. i don't know what i would do without her.

I have a boxer and for the past couple days hes when he runs or does anything for a split second that gets him excited he starts coughing and acts like hes about to vommit but never does, at first I was thinking maybe he just has a big hair ball or something but its been a couple days now that hes been doing this and Im getting scared, does this sound like heart worms?
heartworms can be detected through a heartworm test (hwt). the problem is that heartworms are so microscopic that it take 6 months for a pet to test positive for heartworms on a hwt. by the time u see the symptoms the pet is usually in a progressed state of heartworm disease and needs immediate medical attention
I know the feeling man as my DOG had to be put down as what was wrong with him was cancer of the liver kidnedies but he lived for 18yrs and have a tatoo as a show of love for him :-)

I know what you are going through as my 10yr old Fox Terrier died from a broken back. We believe someone jumped our fence and beat him until he had broken his back. my dog died from heart worms last night around 8:30 pm at an animal hospital. i miss her soooo much! and i rly havent ate for 2 days either. ive cried my eyes out and ive prayed for her to stay alive. and she just never pulled thru. she wuz my best friend. i would sit on my porch and talk to her about my problems and she would just sit there and listen...like she understood. and plz warn more ppl about this. it only takes 60 days for a mosquito to bite and create adult heart worms. thnk u!!!!

People!If your vet tells you that your dog has an early stage of heartworms dont panic.The vets lie so you will get your dog heartworm treatment that costs 897 dollars!If your dog is young,then he/she has the imune system to fight the heartworms.They make excuses like "Oh it wont affect them now but it will 10 years later." and other bullshit like that.Remember young dogs can fight it off.If heartworms were really serious then there will be no wolves,coyotes,foxes,etc.

my dog died last week she was a brindle boxer and she was also urinating blood and had heavy breathing , the vet had to put her to sleep... its the saddest thing ever because they become family members. I'm sorry for your loss :(

my dog is heartworm positive but she is getting her shots of immiticide the middle of next month. she is currently on antibiotics. she's is not showing any symptoms yet but i had her annual heartworm test done last month and that's how i found out she is positive. i'm glad i found out about it early. i don't know what i would do without her.

Dogs get heart worms from an infected mosquito, not by eating garbage! People need to educate themselves on the difference between heart worms and intestinal worms. There are numerous web sites with information on how dogs contract heart worms and what you need to do to prevent this DEADLY disease! Google "heart worms" and educate yourself!

I have a boxer and for the past couple days hes when he runs or does anything for a split second that gets him excited he starts coughing and acts like hes about to vommit but never does, at first I was thinking maybe he just has a big hair ball or something but its been a couple days now that hes been doing this and Im getting scared, does this sound like heart worms?

heartworms can be detected through a heartworm test (hwt). the problem is that heartworms are so microscopic that it take 6 months for a pet to test positive for heartworms on a hwt. by the time u see the symptoms the pet is usually in a progressed state of heartworm disease and needs immediate medical attention

i lost my boston terrier, max, not to heart worms (we give our dogs heartgaurd every month-it really works) but to glaucoma in his right eye. so we took the eye out and then put him down because it ust would have happened to the other one. i want to say to anyone who has a boston or any other dog- PLEASE TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE VET IF THEIR EYE IS GETTING COMPLETELY RED AND NOT ROUND-THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO SAVE IT!!! I know what you are going through as my 10yr old Fox Terrier died from a broken back. We believe someone jumped our fence and beat him until he had broken his back. I miss him so much and I would've given all of my prized possessions for this to be a dream. You have done the right thing to inform people of Heartworms to help them protect their dogs.

my dog died from heart worms last night around 8:30 pm at an animal hospital. i miss her soooo much! and i rly havent ate for 2 days either. ive cried my eyes out and ive prayed for her to stay alive. and she just never pulled thru. she wuz my best friend. i would sit on my porch and talk to her about my problems and she would just sit there and listen...like she understood. and plz warn more ppl about this. it only takes 60 days for a mosquito to bite and create adult heart worms. thnk u!!!!
