I found your channel while searching Honda DIY's. You are by far one of the best mechanics I have seen. Your videos are so easy to follow, that anyone can feel like anything is possible. I have always drove Honda's. But always lacked the knowledge to fix anything. Your videos inspire me to get dirty and learn how to do things on my own. Glad to have found your channel, keep up the good work! ETCG FTW!!!
Had to comment. I'm 19 coming 20 and have very little mechanical knowledge. I found the idea of simple jobs like removing a wheel daunting. I watched a lot of your videos and now have that bug to learn more and gather more mechanical knowledge. I think this video was emotional and very nicely done and I'm glad you've enjoyed teaching others on here.
From your voice in the video I can tell you were getting emotional. It's inspiring to see that you worked real hard to pull yourself out of those dark times. It makes me want to try harder to be a better tech. Keep up the great work Eric!!
PS What's that at 4:12?!! - didn't need to see that!!
@MeowJW I'm glad you liked the video, those were hard times but they are behind me now and ETCG is doing very well so it all worked out in the end I just had to wait it out. Thanks for the comment.

Hey EricTheCarGuy! I've felt exactly the same way you did when you wrote that letter to the ASE, except I was in the computer industry. I am now attending a technical school and working towards becoming an automotive technician - something I enjoy far more than computers. I've been watching all your videos for inspiration as well as information. Thank you!
it's hard all over Eric, it really is. I'm a teacher and the profession is going through alow point...blame the teachers for everything including the economy. I don't know how that's supposed to make you feel better, but I guess my point is"You are not alone!" Stay strong Eric!!!
@pahriz It was that realization that prompted me to start ETCG in the first place, the fact that may people were out there struggling, I figured I had the time and the know how so I might as well help them and perhaps help myself in the process.
Happy birthday!! and im sorry about your low point but i'm glad u had it, Cuz without it i wouldnt know much about cars or you ril now :) thanks!! I need to get that integra clutch cd!!
@danturnbow Yea, it's funny how bad things turn out to be good things. Thanks for your comment. BTW the Integra video is available on the ETCG site, I just posted it yesterday.
Good job Eric, it's nice to hear a bit of your story, along with some words of encouragement for those like myself starting in the automotive tech field. Keep making vids I look forward to them Cheers!
@TNT66613 I'm happy to keep making videos for as long as I can. Auto-mechanics can be a great way to make a living I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for everything you do. I'm am an aspiring tech at 25 years old who goes to an automotive training center, I tell my class mates about your site. I always look forward to your video's. Good luck, Congratulations, and never stop! :- )
Thank you for all the effort you put in to etcg and im glad thing are going better for you. I wish for your success to continue and the best of luck... Once again thank you!!!
Hi Eric, i even got goose bumps listening to your video letter. There is no bigger motivation after a hard work day than coming home and looking for your latest video.
I own a 96 honda civic with 288000 kilometer on the clock. I am pretty sure with a little fortune and help from your videos i will reach the distance of a light second in a few months.
@EricTheCarGuy I'm starting this YTO YouTube Orbit video a day after watching Urgo6667 Channel. I know you have a vlog Channel - maybe incorporate that into into your vlogs? There are some pretty people doing it. I figure it's a great way to keep myself accountable for actually getting my Channel off the ground rather than just thinking about it.
@gaveintothedarkness@EricTheCarGuy There are no dislikes because there is nothing to dislike about this video. Suprising yes, but I like to think that even haters have a conscience. Either way, 50,000 likes and 1 dislike is still 50,001 ratings. The haters who downrate, rate you with a positive without even knowing it! It all comes out in the wash.
Great video well said, I hated working at the last dealership I worked at it took my love for working on cars away during the time I was I hated even look at a car because of my mangers n owner n now that I'm not there I got my love for working on cars back
You are the man sir! Because of you, my girlfriends 97 accord is at 300 miles after full head resurfacing and timing belt/water pump/seals change and running perfect. Never have done this before, so basically... thanks for improving my love life buddy!! Stayin' safe and Dirty in Indiana.

Touching video, Eric. I recently have lost hope in humanity for the most part because of things that have happened to me beyond my control, but you have helped to restore that hope in my fellow neighbor even if just a little. I wish you continued success!
@BobConolty We all go through hard times, just remember that those times will pass and good things will come back if you have the eyes to see them. Good luck and thanks for the comment.
Wow. That was brutally rib cracking honest. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the industry.
I have been hooked on your videos since I saw your video on Honda accord timing belt. I have seen there is a difference between mechanically inclined people like me and MASTER TECHS like you. I can only go so far. You have broadened my comfort zone. Too bad I still have a long way to go!
Eric, you should really consider teaching automotive technology at a trade school. You are excellent at explaining what you do. I'm currently an automotive student and I feel you would have excellent rapport with students. You have taught me a ton just from your short videos. Sorry life has been so tough for you lately. Keep on trucking man, Best wishes in the future. Sincerely.....................Jack I. Dyson
I really do wish you many more years here and tons more subbs! I'm glad your happy doing it. I've watched all your vids. I love anything with a motor. Stared when I was 3. I'd reach over and change gears for my Dad in his truck. Then around age 6 I got a 50cc dirt bike.My Dad had 2 rules be safe and learn to take care of it. Learned a TON with that. By 7 I could change oil in the cars.I just love it.I am very proud to say I am a dirty girl! And I'll stay dirty as you recommend :-) Blessings!
Interesting presentation, especially as a UBI Cert. Advanced bicycle tech (now independent/eBay sales) I oftentimes felt that same way often daydreaming of work in Holland, India, or China (Back in my day) where bicycles kept the country afloat. However here in the states, growth advancement for techs is limited & bikes are often relegated to the Idyllic summertime Sunday cruises around the block or as a stepping stone to the first motorized vehicle only to be seldom every used again.
Thanks eric, keep up the great work. I myself am just learning to wrench on my truck and get it in tip top shape for the road, slowly and surly. I just discovered your show recently but it is of excellent quality and professionalism.
Eric, I think you would make a great technical trainer or something similar for a company like Honda or Toyota. Just a thought, they need people just like you.
@skylinekin I looked into it but they wanted me to have some teaching credentials and since I wasn't able to go back to school I'm here. Thanks for the comment.
Its a shame that you found yourself out of a job - all too often I see mechanics doing work that the boss thinks should have been finished yesterday.
Keep working on your videos - soon enough you will have a library & resource to others - I myself have a quick look over youtube before starting work on my car.
have used your videos in the past - especially the rear brake shoe video!
You are becoming a vital resource for DIY mechanics - I think its great the way you show mistakes. All the best.
Cheers to you for keeping the faith as long as you did. I wrenched professionally for about 2.5 years. I too did the best I could at the trade school I attended. Following that, I tested well enough to attend Audi Academy. Due to the lack of openings in Audi dealerships, I ended up working on Toyota instead. I was required to work under a master tech the first of whom didn't get along with me because I could think for myself, the second was alright but we had the worst service advisor ever.
you are an awesome guy eric! there should be more people like you, i will always be honored and glad to continue to watch and support you and your work. thanks for all the helpful vids and info youve provided and i cant wait to see whats in store for the future :)
Happy birthday Ericthecarguy, you are the best technician you could be, and not thanks to us, but thanks to you, because if you wouldnt be there, there wouldnt be any viewers :) Respect.
If it makes you feel any better, we're happy to have you as a friend, but you're more than a friend to us. You're a teacher, someone who we can turn to when in need of help, and that means a lot to us. So thank you for being the person that you are. On a side note, you had an awesome head full of hair..balding sucks lol ROGAINE FTW!!
I only worked in a actual shop for 6months....I didnt see myself doing this for the rest of my life. lol I told myself, I can do better!! I still work on vehicles as a hobby. There was a 53 year old guy in my college Drafting class, He told me that he got laid off after 32 years in the automotive field & It was never too late to change your career. So, I switched back to Computer Aided Drafting..I took 3-years in highschool, then tried automotive, now I'm back what I like doing best!
To say I "like" this video is an understatement. I've always been floored by the honest and capable mechanic and I've been fortunate to know a few in my life. You are not only an auto technician, but you also have a philosophy. Your videos are always entertaining and my son and I always watch them together. I'd be heartbroken for him if he loved cars enough to follow a dream like yours and face the adversity you have, but if he handled it half as well as you have, I'd be damn proud of him.
@golefevre Adversity builds character and being a technician can be very rewarding, especially if you end up doing it on YouTube. Joking aside I really appreciate your comment and your viewership as it makes what I do worth while.
@EricTheCarGuy - the first thing that I noticed in your Description is that you misspelled Patience as Patients. Sadly, that brought me to thinking about MY OWN PROFESSION - Healthcare. I've been a Surgical Assistant for many years, and in that time, I have recieved many accolades for my work, while seeing others who flat out don't give a shit. They're burnt out. It's stressful because the job involves care of OTHER PEOPLE.
@EricTheCarGuy - Although I am not ASE Certified, my head and hands have been wrapped around the Automotive Industry for many years. I am very passionate about doing things the right way rather than skipping steps in order to get the job done the quickest. Integrity is of utmost importance to me. Seeing you following your dream is something that I'd like to accomplish as well. I have all these thoughts in my head of what I want to share, I hope to make a video just like this in 2 years. - Damian
I've posted comments on a couple of your videos, I'm about to graduate from my tech program at Sinclair CC up the road from you. After my first year, I was hearing alot of the things that you were told when you entered the business from students that were already in the field. This was disheartening, and I was almost a dropout. However, your videos and insight have motivated me to start looking for shop space and to get my own gig going. I can't thank you enough bro. Lemme buy you a beer!
Eric I hope you live forever! lol I don't ever want your videos to stop!!!!! P.S you should make a video rebuilding a small block chevy =p just sayin, you don't have to =p
Congrats on a Great Two Years! It takes a lot of persistence to stick with it like that. I think you've found what you truly should be doing. I'm positive that your videos have helped thousands of people.
I heard all the same things when I was an automotive tech that it is rough on you and you will regret being one in years. Especially due the business. I used to work at a great shop, but then moved and its a dead end. Now I just fix my own cars or help others and try to teach them a thing or two. Being an automotive tech is rough. I think the only way you can appreciate it is working for yourself instead of working for someone else.
I know how hard it is my dad was a master ASE tech for 30 years He taught me the ropes while he was he was working a second job for Checker cab in KY I learned all I could and we built a 1971 duster with a 340 6 pack . I was working from the age of 11 doing part time work then at the age of 19 the world fell apart and could not find ant work in 1980 I went in the NAVY on submarines in the NUKE program enjoyed 7 years in then electronics and even then I was laid off several time now disabled
BRAVO! ive been looking for a tech job since i graduated . i passed my ASE a5 test and all they want to pay is 10.00 an hour . my friends all make 14 to 15 packing boxes or driving HI lo's . Whats wrong with this picture . they saw all the studying and hard work it is to become a tech and thats all they pay . Somethings gotta change
Your video's are (using one of your favourite words) Epic.
but its not all about the video's, and the mechanics, and how talented you are in the automotive industry. It's how honest and genuine you are, along with a sense of humour.
Keep Going (though I'm sure I don't need to say that :D) and Keep your sincerity.
Hey Eric with such a big following with all your viewers you could have your own tv program. Have you ever thought about that idea of your own program on a major tv network?
Thanks for your 2 years of awesome work and videos Eric! I'm also an Automotive technician (in Canada), been certified for just under 3 years. I'm 24 years old. I love what I do but you're right, pay sucks! I'll probably be moving on and finding a new career before the end of the year for that only reason if something doesn't change. Sucks because I really love what I do.
@chevyshaun454 I know the industry will miss you but I understand. I hope that someday I might be able to help change some of those perceptions and perhaps make it so that technicians finally start getting the recognition they deserve.
eric the car guy for life help maintain and keep this channel alive this is an inspiration to me and all who want to become a technician you will go far with this eric have faith
Hey Eric - obviously I don't know what your plans are exactly for the future of ETCG, but I thought I would point out, just in case you hadn't considered this, that it seems like you are on a path where you could position yourself as the "Holmes on Homes" of the auto repair industry. DIY is an important aspect of your vids, but so is showing people how to avoid being ripped off by those mechanics less scrupulous than yourself. It happens all too often. Good luck.
I think i speak for everyone when i say, im very pleased to hear ericthecarguy will be your full time job, we cant get enough of you.
Your providing more than one service, your fixing cars, your entertaining people and your also teaching What more could we want. I hope all is well for you and i hope you get everything you truely deserve!
@SuPrAmAd101 I hope so to but I'll be fine if things stay the way they are because I love doing this work and helping people in the process. Thanks very much for your comment.
i came to your page one day out of desperation looking for videos to help me on my truck problem...i watched that video and i said i have to check out more of these amazing videos...since that day i have watched everyone of your videos and became a subscriber..you are doing a great job keep it up..i check everyday to see what you may post next...thank you for taking the time bringing all of us great videos full of great information...happy birthday ETCG
You are very true to your vids and i can see your dedication that i don't see in other videos from other people, i hope you stay as dedicated as you seem to be because i love working on my own cars and i like to know that i can rely on you for additional help for any project you post videos.
happy birthday ETCG, sorry to hear about the tough 2 years. i would like to thank you for all the videos and the great work. and i am sure thing will pick up soon.

@AlexGSi2000 Learning from mistakes is probably one of the most important things you can do as a mechanic. Thanks for your comment.

I'd be heartbroken for him if he loved cars enough to follow a dream like yours and face the adversity you have, but if he handled it half as well as you have, I'd be damn proud of him.
golefevre 1 year ago

Thank you.

Good luck.
