  • We leave the old lamp in place until we're ready to install the new lamp. Optics stay clean that way. Also, if we can identify the exact lamp (usually Philips, Osram or Ushio) we will get it from another supplier, otherwise we use the original only. They tend to last considerably longer. The cheap lamps cost more over the long run.

We've changed hundreds of lamps but I'm sure this is a helpful video for unindoctrinated Sony SXRD owners!

  • nice does this work for Sony KDF-E42A10 42-Inch LCD Rear Projection Television?

  • Thank you

  • Very Helpful, Thanks!

  • Great Video Helped Out Alot. I Did the Same Thing And Took Out The Whole Back First.

  • Very helpful!!! Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for saving me a ton of time!

  • hey bud Top vid

but i have a different problem you might of come across,

the tv starts up as usual, but no picture comes up also no fans nothing also the red LED light flashes 6 times, i cant find what the hell is the problem as ideas, if you say thermal fuse: where the hell is that little barsted

    thanks bud

  • SONY KDF-60 WF655 HAS A ROUND SCREW ON THE LEFT SIDE HOLDING

THE LAMP IN PLACE YOU NEED THIN FINGER OR A SPECIAL FLAT HEAD

TOOL .. SCREW DRIVER TO TAKE IT OUT .. THEN THE LAMP SLIPS RIGHT OUT. GREAT VIDEO .. TOOK OUT OLD LAMP AND ORDERED NEW ONE.

VERY EASY TO TAKE OUT. HOPE THIS WILL WORK FOR ME.

  • Very good video but need help on reconnecting the connector(plug) on the basket

  • I am having trouble removing the bulb itself from its restraints in the tv!

Does it simply pull out? I see two wires and a small silver metal restraining bolt i believe that is giving me difficulty, I do not want to use excessive force and accidentally break something

  • @TheKingoftheComedy there is a torx screw holding it in

  • great video! thanks alot!!!

  • Here is a link for bulbs for $68.88 It wont post the link but (PureGlare. com) has bulbs at low cost.

  • @gordonitis i say them great prices for the bulb and the housing really helpful :3

  • @gordonitis If you do a search you will find them for a great range of prices. Most of the lower cost bulbs are 2000 hr. but I found several that claim to be 6000 hr for not much more money. 2000 is not much really. Do the math on your TV watching time to figure how long it will last you. Divide 2000 by your watching hours per day.

2000 / 5 hrs per day = 400 days. Not too long if you look at the numbers.

  • Another happy customer here jplan Thanks. All those videos showing how to remove a bunch screws were NOT helpful in the least. I took the back off to check the fan and vacuum the dust. I couldn't see any way to get to the bulb out. I couldn't even see the bulb. Sony sure did a good job making it easy to get it out.

  • THANKS ALOT MAN!!! GREAT VIDEO!! I WAS ABOUT TO PULL ALL THE SHIT OUT OF THE BACK!!! SAVED ME ALOT OF TIME!!! NOW TIME FOR SOME MORE " FROM DUST"

  • I saw a faster way. By the 2 screws on the right, there's a little square cut out. Easily without any tools needed (I don't think you need any) open the box, take the old lamp out, put new one in, and close it back. It worked for my and my family. Have a screwdriver ready just incase you need something to open that square

  • hey thanks for the vid my tv is deff I believe my lamp is on the side my qustion is how do you know what size lamp to buy lost my instruction book should I just take the lap out?

  • Thanks for the video.

  • THANK YOU!! This was exactly what I was looking for. My old lamp burned out & the new one took over a month to get here, because of the terrible situation in Japan. Your simple demonstration saved me about an hour or two of grief & pain.

    Great job - thanks again!

  • Man I ripped the back of my TV out about 4 years ago, got so fed up I ended up sending the TV into a local shop and was slapped with a $1k bill and no TV for 4 months!... So glad I found your video and advancedlamps, saving me an arm and a leg.

Was going to throw the TV on craigslist this time around until I found your vid. You're a life saver.

  • I like to thank people that make videos that help me. Thank You.

  • You saved me lots of time and money, Thank you!!! unfornately..... not until I rip off the back panel, but it needed a cleaning :)

  • Because of you bro.. i saved a whole lot of money replacing the lamp myself! 92bucks only i spent on a lamp on ebay! free shipping! and yes its a brand new lamp phillips.. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MAN!!!! My freaken tv looks like i just bought it new again!

  • I have the same TV, but mine won't turn on at all nor the light blink. Just completely dead, what you think it might be the problem?

  • @cle850 Your problem might be the thermostat. sometimes when the TV overheats and it turns off the thermostat breaks and doesn't allow the TV to turn back on.

  • hey man.. i have a 60inch sony grand wega i never replaced my lamp b4 and i had my tv since 2006.. my picture on the tv looks real dim now not as bright as it used to be.. U think i need a new lamp now?? the color is adjusted too

  • Comment removed

  • Since it has been over a year since you posted how is the bulb worker form advanced lamps?

Do you think it is as good as the OEM from sony

    thanks for the video

  • I can't get the left side to come out. Any ideas?

  • @MrHank1020 there is a screw you need to loosen

  • I can't get the left side to come out. Any ideas?

  • After i saw this I had my three year old daughter go ahead and fix my t.v...........how you got any negative "dislike" review is beyond me, except maybe from the TV repairman and sony thieves that saw this. But Thank you for sparing the opening of the back of the t.v. (this is where I was headed before i looked this up) YOU ROCK....thanks.

  • Seriously.... THANK YOU for this video! Thumbs UP!!!!

  • Your video is by far the best we've seen yet the replacing the bulb in the Grand Wega. We have been having trouble with our Sony KDF60WF655. It turns off every few hours then the green light on the bottom right flashes, after about 30 seconds it comes back on. I have cleaned the back off with a vacuum. We have not replaced the bulb yet. All other information led us to the side, and of course that was not correct for the GrandWega. We had no clue that to do until we saw your video.Thank you!!!!

  • @donnademy ......our tv is the same model and was doing the same thing then eventually got worse, but before i spent $100 on a replacement lamp, we decided to remove and clean the lamp lense and bulb vents on the lamp housing free of dust with rubbing alcohol, cotton balls and q-tips, then reinserted the lamp and the problem was resolved.........i believe you will end up doing this in about 6 months despite the vacuuming.

  • sony lcd projection tv model kf-60we610 bulb thats mine 60' bitches

  • THANKS,,,IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.

  • thanks for the video it really helped out

  • I'm having trouble getting the lamp out. The right side of it moves when I pull but the left side is stuck. I'm scared I'll break it if I yank it. Is it attached somehow?? Any tips?

  • @Cindy6225 there is a screw with a allen wrench head on it beneath the two wires on the left, unscrew that and it will loosen the unit . i had the same thing happen to me

  • @famram4 Thanks for the reply! I ended up figuring it out :)

  • Will this work for the Grand WEGA LCD KDF-E50A10? this is really the only info I have found on the subject. thanx in advance.

  • thanks for the video...it saved me a fortune on repair cost...it only took about 5 minutes to repalce my lamp, and now my t.v. works like new again!!!

  • do you know if its the same for the 50 inch wega?

    Thanx

    Jesse

  • Can anybody point me in the right direction please guys????!!!!

my Sony KDS-R60XBR1 is acting up, tv won't turn on, i just get a continuous flashing red blinking where the lamp signal is. My tv never got any green blobs or anything that will ever affect the picture...it just stopped working.

Will replaceing the lamp solve the issue? what brand to get if so?

    Thank You people.

  • Thanks a lot bro. Have the same tv. i took the whole back apart before i saw this video. Repair man wanted to charge me $250 to fix. watched this video ordered the bulb online for $92 n did it myself. You saved me over $150 with this video. Thanks

  • Thankyou so much for the video. I was about to take the whole back off also.

  • This video was very helpful ! My daughters watch T.V. a lot since we move to Europe ! The video started blacking out but with sound ! Only for a second ! The screen looks as if it is getting smaller too! I went through this once before and it was easy to replace ! my other T.V. is a Toshiba but had the box in back!

  • "that optical block was caused by the blue matrix which is very near to the lamp bulb which is heating up, the sony did not anticipate that problem, the matrix's are not heat resistant, and that creates a huge sort like ozone hole" i have opened mine for cleaning and i saw the matrix and i discarded it because its not worth to buy a new one"

  • after installation of new bulb, make sure to put cover back on b4 u turn the t.v. on. I had the 3 red lights...putting cover back on got rid of them.

  • It's so nice not to have to have a man around the house. Thank you so much for the clear and precise video. You have made my TV world a better place. lol:)

  • Thanks very much for the instructions!

  • Thank you thank you THANK YOU!! the Sony instructions for the 60" model are garbage and don't spell out where the bulb is (other than saying to look for two screws when mine has one). This video saved the day for us!

  • Thanks very much for the instructions. I also have the same # T.V. and my lamp has just went out every 2 minutes. So I have ordered a new lamp. I have been told that the OEM lamp that Sony used was made by Philips so that is what I ordered. Thanks again (Life is simply once we know what to do)

  • Thanks dude, great video. Gonna order from the website you posted.

  • Man I never saw something like that here in Spain . I mean my parents and in fact all my family always have Sony TV's but I never in my life saw this types of TV's here in Spain (incredible) . DLP Television , what the hell is that? . We've got TFT Televisions - FULL HD Television - LCD Televisions and probably some other systems , but I never ear of DLP TV , anyway....BB (Sorry for my english)

  • @carboumentliagaizka Son, there are a lot of things in this world that you never seen or heard before ..... especially there in you little Spain...

  • @LTF85199 Well maybe we don't have DLP Televisions here but ¿You know what? We've got high speed trains here in this little Spain and then again there are a lot of things in this world that you never seen or heard before especially there in your "Super-Country"

  • @carboumentliagaizka it is a matter of respect buddy, what you have not been exposed to to is not necessary "HELL". you will learn as you grow up

  • Man you just saved me a ton of trouble.. I would have never figured it out I would have teared up the whole tv apart to find that bulb.

  • thanks for the vid. I had question though. why is it that the lamp light was blinking but I checked out the lamp or bulb and it didn't appear to be cracked?

aLSO, what was the model number of the lamp or bulb?

    thanks

  • @iwatcher69 it burns out just like a regular light bulb. Doesnt have to be cracked for it to be broken.

  • Thanks for this video. I am going to change mine now, I got my lamp online too, My TV was shutting off and the light in the front would flash for about 20-30 seconds, then the TV would go back on. I have the instructions for resetting the lamp timer to zero, but it didn't fix it.

I also had the blue blob problem on this TV, but Sony paid to have a local Sony Service company to come to my house and replace the optical block. replacing bulb myself, your video about screws on back : )

  • @iwatcher69 i just cleaned mine, like the housing, and the bulb, inside and out, (wet paper towel and dry paper towel) , put it back together, waited for like 2 mins to dry, and it works perfectly! good luck, i saved $700

  • Thanks so much for this video, you've been a big help! Got it fixed...; )

  • Great video... Ordered my lamp from the advance lamp link and it worked great.. So simple I only had time to drink one beer out of the 6 that I thought that I would need..lol

  • lots of help my dad and i went through the back and 5 min later i decided to look to youtube for help thanks alot!!

  • thanks

  • you saved me big time, thanks so much for posting :)

  • so why did you go from the front of the tv (where the lamp is) then go to the back, i didnt understand the reasoning

  • Great video! You probably just saved me a lot of time... Thank you! :)

  • thanks, nice work, smart ass, i hate you.

  • How did you know the lamp needed to be replaced?

  • @honeysugaicetea1 it will just stop working.. :(

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much for making this video!!!!!!!! I recently had to replace the lamp on my Sony Bravia (DLP) and your video saved me alot of time and frustration. I followed your instructions on the video and it was EXACTLY like how you described. It's pretty easy to replace by yourself although it's better with 2 people - I had my bf help me. Thanks again and best wishes to you! :)

  • Thank God for youtube. just a note my tv slightly different. no magnets. it had plastic snaps. I took a leap of faith and just yanked it off. But anyway thanx. I looked this up after getting frustrated. I too had the whole back torn off.

  • For how many years does a bulb last because I bough a 57 Inch Sony Wega Rear Projection HDTV in 2005 but Circuit City came in 2008 and replace the bulb how long will it be till I will have to replace it or will it be better off buying a new HDTV once the bulb dies?

  • cool vid. thx

  • my sony wega 50 inch has a real dark screen. anyone know how to clean the inside lens? where are they? i am thinking its from smoking in the house that is making it dark n dirty looking.

  • Comment removed

  • nice video. thanks for the help! The idiot at Best Buy told me to open it up from the back... Retards.

  • @MeTube11Elevin

uggh thankfully you saw this, it was a pain when i opened the back lol.

  • So ummm thank you a million I have A Mitsubishi, and I also took out the whole back panel and everything, watched this and realized mine just popped off to !! relief and a waste of 6 hours trying to find it !! ahh thank you!! :)

  • they have the same lamps for 80 bucks keep looking

  • hey i have the same t.v, but i have blue dots and lots of those appearing on my t.v screen, would u know what the problem would be? I was told my t.v lens is dusty so i ahve to clean it? would you know how to clean the t,v projector lens?

  • thanks for posting man...

  • hey i have the same tv was wondering why it would blink on and off the screen

    would it be the bulb

  • @namalmgren So the screen blinks on and off?

  • you are marvelous, i fixed my tv in seconds.

  • Our tv is starting to annoy me, we've gone through 3 lamps already...it's really not worth it IMHO. Could probably buy a lamp, install it and sell it off to someone else to help pay for a nice new one that doesn't require 2 new lamps per year.

  • dude I thank you for doing this video... it helped me a lot

  • just want to say thank you. You saved me so much time and it was so easy thanks again

  • hi, can you help me?. i have the same tv, my problem is that the screen of my tv is very dark. it has lost colors. i try to configure the video, but the same probpelem still dark image, i brought my tv in 2005. what you think is the problem, replacind the lamp will be like new my tv again? or what you think it is. i hope you can help me. Thanks

  • It looks like its the bulb causing the problem. Im not 100% sure though....

  • @jplan6, so did you buy just the bulb by itself without the housing? if so, when you pulled that piece out did you have to unscrew more than one screw to get the bulb out?

  • I bought the bulb and housing.

  • This video is very helpful. Thank you very much for taking your time to make this video and sharing it.

  • hey dude, i replaced it and it didn't work =/ do you have any advice or thoughts on why it didnt work, im pretty sure its the lamp though because the red light blinks 3 times and i red that if it blinks 3x its the lamp

  • try unplugging the power cord.

    that might help

  • Have you solved the problem. I have the same issue and I am hoping you have found the solution

  • Yeah! im dumb lol all i had to do was put everything back, you know the cover you took out to put in the bulb? well theres some thing that needs to be pushed in(its a tiny metal thing)

so, just put the front cover back, or just everything to make sure if it doesn't work let me know. Hopefully it does, i know how if feels when it doesn't =/

  • I love you. I just decided to give it one more try and like magic it works. I must not have gotten it in just right before. Again thanks

  • HA your welcome! im really glad it worked =]] i remember when i was so frustrated that it wasn't working so im glad i somewhat helped out lol enjoy your tv!

    =][=

  • Thx! i started to go through the back until i saw your video. Saved me ALOT of time. Also, i tested the lamp without attaching the SMALL outside plastic cover. It Has to be on or the TV will blink 3 times. Bought the lamp from Ebay from River Valley Electronics for $70. Thx Again!!!

  • We can't thank you enough for saving the day! We tried doing it ourselves but couldn't figure out how to get the front piece off the TV. Watched your video and replaced the bulb in 5 minutes. I also just ordered a spare at advancedlamps which saved us over a hundred bucks. You just saved us endless frustration and a lot of money. Thank you!!!!

  • Glad i can help!

  • Brother i tell u man! you are such a consider dude, thanks, of course after i teared apart the tv , i said why not look on you tube?..and there you are buddy...Thanks got it.

  • Your video saved the day. Thanks for taking the time to show this process. I too started with taking the whole back of the TV apart. You've done your good deed for the day. Kent

  • thnk you jp, excellent of you to share your experience. i', in TO too, my bulb is about to go. your help is appreciated. big thanks

  • hey bro, how did you actually pull the bulb out i cant figure it out. can you make a short video of that please? Thanks!!

  • Just pull down a bit when your pulling it out. also i didnt mention in the video theres a llittle screw holding it in,

  • where is the little screw because all I see is the two behind the housing holding the bracket under the bulb? Again Thanks for your time and patience!

  • @jplan6

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video! It was so easy to install with your instructions and also thanks for the website on ordering the bulb! Now we can enjoy our tv!

    Alicia

  • thanks buddy, you rock!

  • np.

  • where did you buy the bulb? I live in Canada also.

mine just went out as well i just ordered from the site you recommended

did you fix your tv yet?

  • yeah i fixed it back in october.

  • oh nice

how long did it take for delivery

sounds like it doesnt take long

  • Umm it took about a week and a half to canada. But if your in the states it will probably take a few days.

  • oh nice

    thanks you

  • ok thanks mate,

  • nice video, i wonder if some 1 can help me, my tv is very dark, its a sony wega 50" not sure what model but the bulb is the same as this, the screen is very dak, all my settings are flat out to brighten it up but its still dark, i try to play my ps3 on it but i have to turn all the lights off just so i can see the scrren better, is this normal for a rear projection? or should it be as light as a normal tv?

  • It should be prettty bright. Your bulb is probably going out.

  • hello hi u doing BTW great video, i have the same TV u have on the video and the problem that im having is that when my tv is on it start to black out and then it will turn back on, and it just stay doin it all the time, so i wanted to know is this was the reason y u change the bulb, if not please help!!! i just want to make sure is the bulb before i go and buy it thanks alot man have a good day.....

  • Is the light red (FLashing)? if so, yes you need a new bulb

  • Why isn't a video like this on sony's website?

  • Because sony wants you to call them and buy the bulb from them and send a repair guy to fix it, and making probably $300-$500 profit.

  • what happens if you dont replace the lamp on a dlp or projector?

  • It wont work.

  • KF-WS60A1 is it the same as the KDFs ? cause looking at your vid we have the same TV ... would the optic block assembly be the same ?

  • Not to sure, sorry.

  • hey nice vid man .. um I am having problems with my tv aswell ... maybe you can help me ... the TV needs a new optic block assembly and a new lamp ... the problem is that I have the part # of the lamp right but the optic block I cant find online ... are all optic block assembly the same for all sony wega tv ? mine is a 60in and I have been trying to figure out if the model # is right ...KTWS60A1 ? also is a wega diff from a grand wega ? thank you ..

  • Sorry i have no idea about the optic block.

  • Excellent excellent video. My lamp just went out. I was gonna throw it away an buy a new one but I think I will replace it now. I have the KDF-E55A20. Did you get a Phillips or Sony lamp? Also, once you installed the lamp did you have to go through any on screen set-up or color alignment? If so it would have been a great addition to the video.

  • Hmmm i cant even remember which one i got haha, But i just put the bulb in and it was working right away.

  • I changed the bulb - BTW thanks for your info - It was easy with the instructions - But my "replace lamp" is still on. Any idea how to get it to go off...or reset it somehow?

  • hmmm. Maybe try to unplug the TV from the Wall.

    Should reset it.

  • ok , going to try that now. will let you know - thanks!

  • Did it work?

  • Also, what kind of tv do you have? So i can maybe try and find some info, incase that didnt work.

  • @jplan6 - thanks so much for being so kind and helpful - the tv is a wega 46" something or other. but i did get the command to off thru the menu - youre great

  • Glad i can help !!

  • no. but i went to the settings from the remote and there is an icon that tells you to change the lamp and then you just click on yes (u did) and it resets. thanks again. happy thanksgiving!

  • Great info, thanks. I have that tv and the bulb burned out after 3 years. I had the 5 year warranty so Bestbuy came and replaced it after a few weeks waiting and I was very tempted to try and give it a go while I waited. Had I seen your video I would have probably gone for it. If possible, you might want to re-shoot the first half of the video--can't see much between the lack of focus and then the darkness. Still, very helpful!

  • right on thanks man. i need to look back and hear what the website was again but this is exactly the same tv i have that needed to replace my bulb. awesome

  • very useful info. txs

  • Just wanted thank-you for your video I was about to take the back off the unit when I decided to search for some info. you saved me a lot of time greatly appreciated - Nick

  • No problemo
