  • what the hell is all this arguing on a sitcom theme song?.....

  • Wow.

A theme song from 25 years ago and you idiots are fighting about race.

  • Marla Gibbs was on another sitcom where she played the manager of

a hotel or something like that, I don't think it lasted very long.

  • im so happy Centric added this show..............227 marathon!

  • Comment removed

  • i came to listen to this after i saw i had 227 msgs in my yahoo mail...lol

  • Until we can get along with each other don't expect respect from anyone else. Why did this turn into an attack on each other?!

  • Marla Gibbs playing Florence on the Jeffersons was one of the all time funniest sit com roles. Playing her in the "straight man" role was a waste of her talent. I will never forget how Florence used to say "Billy Dee Williams?"

  • I love this show and theme song. That is so true "There is no place like home!".

  • what happend to Calvin from 227?? You dont see anywhere today

  • This was the my show..such a great family tv show

  • My grandmother(mom's side) lived in an apartment building in Brooklyn... 227 was the building number.

  • Go Skins!!!!

  • Oooooooh i watched this show so many times and I didn't know that was Countess Vaughn from The Parkers!!!

  • @Xzamilloh ..yeah thats her but she was so much better on The Parkers and Moesha than on 227. She was annoying to me on this show

  • @TheScorpio4lyfe LMAO Yeah she was!!!!

  • This was like the Black Golden Girls... Mary, Rose, Sandra, and Pearl were like Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia respectively. LOVED both when they appeared back-to-back on Saturday nights for YEARS!! Now what's on Sat. nights??? NUTTIN'!

  • pinnaple express.

  • alaina reed was on Sesame Street

  • i'm 18 and know all the words! lol

  • Cause there ain't no place like....Better believe it!.....There ain't no place like....Better believe it! My fave part of the song.

  • It's cool to live vicariously through people who live vicariously. Reality TV. Thank you MTV.

  • I thought hurricane season was over.

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaary!

  • "I mean NO place, child!" (WHOO!!)

    Fabulous, FABULOUS theme song...

  • Pearl Shay

  • Yes alaina reed IS from Sesame Street :)

  • Marrrrr-yeeee!!!!

  • You guys do know that Alaina Reed (who played Rose on this show) played Olivia on Sesame Street, right? Does it look co-incidental (or maybe it is just me who sees this) that the front step setting looks similar to that of the front steps on Sesame Street (the one outside of Susan and Gordon's house)?

  • @MichaelBrookham That is interesting. But did you know that Alaina Reed passed away some years ago?

  • @ProximaB yes I did know that. She died in 2009 at age 63.

  • @MichaelBrookham Yeah, sad... I learned about it during a 227 reunion segment on Good Morning America.

  • @MichaelBrookham I never knew that.

Man! How she did double duty during that time... as "Olivia" in SESAME STREET, and playing in 227 as well.

  • Used to watch this all the time in the 80's, along with all the sitcoms and shows of the day. I always loved the older lady, I forget her name. :)

  • i use to love this show, what ever happened to quality sitcoms. Now we have reality shows thats far from any reality i want to be a part of.I sound like an old fart lol.But its real talk.

  • i use to love this show, what ever happened to quality sitcoms. Now we have reality shows thats far from any reality i want to be a part of.I sound like an old fart lol.But its real talk

  • i didnt know jackee harry was on this show !

  • @milacrzy Wait, what ELSE do you know Jackee from? And might I add, Euuuuuuugh, Mayyy-weee!

  • @meenaamy sister,sister

  • Shows like these were the best. Back then we had Marla Gibbs and so many others that were truly talented, funny, and good role models. Now what do you we have? A bunch of nobody's on Biggest Loser that we'll all forget about by next season. Sheesh.

  • "I thought hurricane season was ova?"

  • for anybody who doesn't know this show currently comes on gmc (gospel music channel).

  • @slydawg221 am watching this rite now ! : )

  • @milacrzy i watched it too. i watch it all afternoon, every saturday.

  • @slydawg221 am gonna make it my duty to watch it ! : ))

  • ever noticed that the front door set was the same as sesame street front door set susan's and Gordon's place

  • Mary was singing this song lol

  • @85buickV8......LOL, yup people only think that white people only watched the cosby show in the 80's so far as to black Tv shows but you just proved them wrong...LOL

  • hey what was the phone number at the beginning...lol

  • I'm from a family that's white from a neighborhood that's all white =and we hardly ever missed an episode of this.

  • My mom loved this show. I wanna get her the whole series, but they only have the first season available,

  • wtf...i don't remember countess vaughn on here

  • @catchfree84 lol mean neither! that was a shock.

  • i mean no place child

  • i luv it

  • Is it me, or do the front steps of this at the beginning look like those of Sesame Street? Perhaps Alaina Reed wasn't the only connection this show had with Sesame Street.

  • "I mean no place, chiile"

  • I love this show. It is aired on the Gospel Music Channel.

  • you couldn't tell me jackee wasn't the finest black woman alive back in the day

  • Does anyone remember when Helen Martin appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and she said, "Oh yeah, I LOVE the reefer!" Classic!!

  • @SafetyPinKiten LOL Do you remember when she was on "Don't be a menace" smoking weed and break dancing?

  • So sad that the girl who played Alexandrea grew up to be such a hoochie in real life :(

  • My mom and I used to watch this show religiously, she got me started watching this and it became one of my favorite shows.

  • I wish the days of quality television shows would come back. They've taken all of my childhood and replaced it with freakin reality shows.

  • @silvermist1216 The only good quality show in this era was Everybody Hates Chris.

  • @silvermist1216 you couldn't have said it better......

  • @silvermist1216 Say that again!

  • For those of you who don't know this, Alanna Reed Hall passed away about this time last year at age 63. She was Rose on this show, but also Olivia on Sesame Street. She is the only human character from Sesame Street that I have seen make it big on a TV sitcom. Is it me, or do the stairs outside of the apartment look like a bigger version of the outside staircase on Sesame Street?

  • i remember watching this show with momz....man i miss my childhood years...227 was sooooooooo hilarious...esp jackee...lol and she still haven't changed a bit till this very date in time...lol...and who can not forget ms regina king hahaha...my my my i remember when she made her debute on poetic justice...with janet jackson...this is great...the show was terrific...always looked forward in watching this show faithfully!

  • I first discovered "227" on "BET" back in the 90's. I was born in 1989, so this show was in it's 4th season when I was born. I used to watch it every evening at 6 and 6:30. I was sad when BET stopped showing it and started playing damn rap videos. This was around 1997 into '98 or so. Good show, but should of lasted a little bit longer than 5 seasons.

  • Jesus...was this life before HD??

  • i used to watch this too.

  • Another Baldwin Brother?

  • Regina King....Huey and Riley from the boondocks...

  • Wha? i didn't know the PJ's were once real people!?

  • That wasnt Regina King on Whats Happening Now. That was her sister Reinia King.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't realize Countess Vaughn was on this show

  • I always thought that that it was funny how the front of the building looked like Sesame Street and what's even more funnier was that 227 had Olivia!

  • Wow, I didn't realize that little girl who was on this show was Countess Vaughn. Similarly, I just realized a year ago that Regina King was the little girl on What's Happening Now, before she was on this show.

It's always interesting when somebody becomes more famous latter, and you realize who they were in something that you'd watched back in the day.

  • we can go on youtube watch 227 n shit pineaple express brought me here

  • @incsteve im feeling ya! Don't know how the f*** I ended up here, but I'm laughing my ass off right now!!

  • a great B grade show. Remember when they used to show this and Amen at night

  • holeee !!! i used to watch this when i was like 7, and it would come on around 10 or 11 in the evening.. haha! cool !!

  • OMG...227!!!........such memories!

  • I want to watch this show! How dare TV Land turn their backs on classic television!!

  • I miss these shows that actually had substance to them.....nowadays, we get nothing but crime shows and pointless reality tv, ugh! That's why I don't watch much tv today.

  • And i mean no place child!

  • @LoganCrews haha...i actually remember her saying that...i was like 6 when this show was on!

  • We had some of the best set coms ever!!!

  • look at Brenda!!! Regina King...Lord have mercy am i this old?

  • I thought hurricane season was over

  • @FpLiOnYkD "Pineapple Express", right?

  • I thought hurricane season was over

  • BOY THAT HAL WILLIAMS WAS ONE SMOKIN HOT STUDMUFFIN!

  • I still know it, too

  • isit bad that i still know all the words???

  • @mattratt512

Not at all. What's slightly disconcerting, however, is when you and your best friend bust this song out at the top of your lungs in the middle of a restaurant.... LOL! Not saying I've done it.............

  • Plenty of great sitcoms. No good sitcom theme songs, though.

  • JACKE

  • Those were the days!!! What ever happened to shows like this???

  • R.I.P. Alaina Reed. :(

  • Cant believe that Olivia from Sesame Street is gone! RIP there goes another piece of my childhood gone.

  • I LOVED Jackee -- so funny!!!

  • What a great show! Marla Gibbs was fucking harsh!

  • @storrs soooooo true long lost love....

  • When I was a kid, I thought 227 was on Sesame Street.

  • @marshallsimon

LOL, only in a perfect world....

  • @marshallsimon It was actually filmed in the same studio and the front steps are actually the steps on Seseme Street, so maybe it was 227 Seseme Street! lol

  • @serendipity375 Wow I never knew that; but now that you mention it, I can see it.

Who remembers the promo tag line: 227, the place to be, Saturdays on NBC

  • I Thought The Hurricane Season was Over

  • back when Jackee was hot!

  • @m2diggs She had that ass!!!!

  • @m2diggs hell yea! i'd jump on that! too bad that now she's my mom's age.

  • OMGoodness I loved these sitcoms!

  • THIS IS WAT U CALL A SITCOM HA HA LOL

  • can someone please tell me what is the name of the epsiode at 0:33 please been tryng to see the epsiode for years

  • is Marla singing the theme song?

  • @MegaTyler98 Yes, that's her! Great song.

  • One of my old time fav shows. Those were the days...

  • i've never even heard of this show

  • I remember this show. My mom used to let me watch it with her. I was only about 3 and I can't believe I remember that.

  • and i mean no place child!

  • is that marla gibbs singing?

  • I remember alaina reed when she was on seseme street back in the day

  • " I thought the hurricane season was over! "

  • LOVE THIS THEME SONG! The best sitcoms were the 70's and 80's they all had great theme songs, and GREAT ACTORS! WHAT THE HELL HAS GONE WRONG WITH TV NOWADAYS????????? everything nowadays is horrible, people CAN'T ACT, the writers do horrible scripts, and none of the shows have a good theme song! I want a time machine to go back to the 70's and 80's! I was born in the 80's so I remember this show!

  • @maleficentdiva

Music in general has changed from melodies. That's why even a new generation of kids can listen to these themes and still enjoy them - they are timeless.

  • @maleficentdiva You grew up to fast that's what happened. and Im sure a lttile part of you misses your childhood .

  • I loved Saturday nights on NBC... 227, Amen, Golden Girls, and Empty Nest. Where have all the good sitcoms gone???? :(

  • @katiekate3104 - I loved these days too (I'm still a devoted Golden Girls fan). I used to watch all of the shows on the Saturday night lineup on NBC.

The good sitcoms have gone the way of the dinosaur and the dodo - they're extinct. It's a sad shame, really.

  • jackee isnt dead

  • jackee is alive, alaina reed is dead

  • @lovalova509 I know right. smh

  • @lillana42 Just her career.

    zing!

  • RIP Jackee... YOU WILL BE MISSED.... GONE TOO SOON

  • what happened to Jackee

  • Nothing at all.

In fact, she's still currently acting. She played Vanessa (Rochelle's boss) on Everybody Hates Chris until it ended.

  • Jackee Harry is alive and well, fool, Alaina Reed Hall (Rose) is the one who recently passed away from breast cancer.

  • @Neno8403 No Jackee is dead.. Cancer or AIDs I think.

  • @TwoSet You're a dumbass. #FAIL

  • @TwoSet No it was Rose that died of cancer.

  • @rufus317 which is a badge of honor in her neighborhood.. Most blacks there die of AIDs.. We need to make our communities stronger. Why am I the only black man who cares about our image these days. I got my degree and I raise my kids.. And I tip at restaurant I visit. I've NEVER hit a women. HAVE SOME PRIDE, my brothers

  • @Doubleshot98 Why are you directing this @my response? All I said was Rose passed away of cancer. When TwoSet said Jackee died of Cancer or AIDS. I was only confirming Alaina Reed-Hall's death back in 09'

  • @Doubleshot98 And as a black man, I don't call my brothers NIGGAZ. I don't be drinking FORTIES all day. Sure I had my problems, but that shit in the passed. WAKE UP black people.

  • @rufusbaron There you go.. a black man who actually doesn't leave his girl when she gets pregnant and PROBABLY pays his taxes. Take note America, we are here. We tip , don't drink , fight or blare our rap music out of our car when we are pumping gas as if the rest of the people there want to hear our shit music. There aren't many of us but we do exist. TAKE NOTE MOTHERFUCKERS!

  • @Doubleshot98 Yo Rev, gtfo the pulpit for a second and listen up. We're all human fuckin beings. I can relate to ur sentiments with one exception, omit the black part. Every race has their stereotypes they have to endure, so man the fuck up and stop crying. One thing you can be sure of is that God is no respector of persons, he don't care non for ur pro blackness b/c in ur pro black rant u forget that other ppl matter too. Remember what Rev King said, wtf are we? Equal. wtf do i have to remind u

  • @Praetorian107 He does care because Im breaking the mold. Im black but I still get my shit done. I PAY MY BILLS. I got a degree. I stayed with my girl. I raise my kids and I'M not just a provider. I'm INVOLVED in their lives. Being a man isnt sending a check every month. I also bring up the image in the community. I volunteer and even help non blacks. WHAT DO YOU DO?

  • @Praetorian107 Classic, you are a true OBAMA NIGGA.. this guy is paying bills, tipping at restaurants and staying with his girl after they had kids. Unlike most black men he is responsible and steps up and you are giving him shit?? You are like Obama. Fake black.. you don't keep it real. I bet you don't tip at restaurants do you?

  • @TwoSet HERMAN MOTHAFUCKIN CAINE nigga!!! A successful black man with grace. The 90s nigga is DEAD . Us black people needs to wake the fuck up and realize these cry-baby niggas are a embarrassment. MAN UP and take care of your business.

  • @rufusbaron enough with the rapes and not wearing belts... RISE UP

  • ON DVD YAY

  • I love singing this song..!!

  • I still remember the commercials heralding the premiere "227 is a COM-e-dy..with Marla Gibbs and her fa-mi-ly" Like seriously I was so stoked because I followed the Jeffersons' last season and on syndicated TV and thought that was the end. Then Sherman Helmsley pulled through a season after that as Deacon Frye..loved the episode where they reunited!!

  • I remember that tease as well. "......with Marla Gibbs and her family. 227 is the place to be, coming this fall on NBC"

  • Anyone else notice how the ladies on this show are oddly reminiscent of the Golden Girls?

Mary - smart, sarcastic, a bit gruff, sensible (Dorothy)

Rose - sweet, somewhat naive (Rose....hey how about that!)

    Sandra - man-crazy (Blanche)

Pearl - older, sometimes cranky, sassy (Sophia)

They're like perfect matches to the GGs.

  • Yes, I used to compare these ladies to the Golden Girls and they debuted on the same night, September 14, 1985.

  • @1980NewWave Better do your math on what show came out and when.

  • Comment removed

  • @1980NewWave funny, that was the basis of my senior thesis

  • @1980NewWave u right!!!

  • I miss this show :(

  • I seem to remember Alaina Reed years ago on Sesame Street....

  • I thought hurrican season was over

  • Wow, I'm glad to see others remember this show. I referenced the "You're watching 227, honey" line and no one got it.

  • RIP Alania Reed (Rose)

  • DAMN way too early...I remember watching Helen Martin's last years on some BET talk show...they always asked her how old she was "old enough to know..and young enough not to try" or something like that

  • I remember MadTV made fun of this lol The opening credits ran so long that the actual show lasted like one half a scene lol

  • Long sitcom theme songs were very common in the 80s. And they're all classics - that's why we all still remember these jingles.

  • yeah, i hated when in the 90s they drop the theme song and show the credits or have a four-second ditty.

  • R.I.P Alania Reed : (

  • R.I.P., Alaina Reed!!! :(!!!!

  • RIP Alaina Reed Hall.

Very sorry to hear about her death the other day. Cancer just keeps taking my fav actors/actresses.

In addition, "227" was a great show that is timeless.

  • R.I.P. Alaina Reed a.k.a Rose

  • @DontFuckWitMe88 aka Olivia on Sesame Street.

  • jakee might be good with the johnny carson routine but shes a terrible pyramid

    player
