  • I love it.

  • I love all of Devin's albums (excluding the ambient ones), but I still think he's never topped Ocean Machine. Nothing beats it for pure emotion and atmosphere.

  • 7 people have great tastes in music >:3

  • I wish I could join the Devin Townsend project. Biggest inspiration for me lately when it comes to music. So damn refreshing

  • The beginning sounds like someone talking about the end of dayz and the album cover looks like a spaceship coming out of the water...is devin tryin to tell/show us something?

  • @7ImmortalOutlaw7 google the first words, its a quote from lord tennyson or so...

  • Beethoven had reason to be pissed off, Devin did not! Devin has had a pretty easy life if you ask me. I compare him more to Handel who was a major influence on Beethoven.

  • There is no other musician on earth of whom I can connect with so well. Its a bit fascinating.

  • devin fuckin' genius townsend!

  • Epic.

  • What are you doing? The music is up here ^^

  • this song is jizztastic, i dont really like the rest of the album so much

  • Brilliant album, underrated in so many ways. I love the layers and the different textures and sounds. Devin knows what he's doing

  • FUCK i love this album

  • this guy changed my way of listening to music! Ive got an EP comming out soon which sounds a lot like Devin. Feel free to check it out on my channel

  • love you, devin...

  • Devin always has awesome riffs, but often his songs develop in a meandering la-di-da-direction where he changes his vocals to a bland sing-along tune.

  • @scavengedfantasyname see what you mean with this one, especially as it starts so well

  • Love the intro chords

  • Greatest ever song to play easy drop C chords to.

  • @mrghostnzl

    Try Rammstein. =P

  • @mrghostnzl It's actually Open C:

    Drop C: C G C F A D

    Open C: C G C G C E

Slight difference, but I just feel very neurotic about things like this.

  • @LightningRider97 Yes but a large part of the song can be played in drop c. You're definitely correct, but when you're playing power chords the CGC is all that really matters.

  • What type of inbred TWATS disliked this?!

  • When I play this album, and this song finishes, I say "Best song on the album definitely"...then Life finishes and I say "Best song on the album definitely"...then Night finishes........I think you get the picture

  • I keep wishing I could write songs as amazing as Devin Townsend. He's a true musical genius. I fucking worship the man.

  • best song of this album.

And the intro is awesome! *-*

  • The beginning sounds like it's being said by the guy who does the voice for the dinosaur in Toy Story. I love this song.

  • There's such a huge sense of movement in this song. I love it!

  • Damn, this album never gets old

  • This is the opening theme to my fantasy, anime movie I'd make if I could.

  • 1:23 - best "uuuhhh" EVER!

  • Northern Dudes rule the world.

  • This album is perfect. Devin is soo genius when it comes to music. My friend said that it doesn't matter what Devin does, it always sound so f******n good! I agree 110%

  • One of my all time favourite albums. So many memories attached to this...

  • Another excellent track from an excellent album by an excellent artist!!!

    @GatewayDirectory - I totally agree!!!

  • Lovely

  • Best opener of the best album ever.

    Rock on, devin.

This music gets me so freaking far away...listening to this while driving in the highway is mind blowing.

  • Sounds like a heavy type o negative influence

  • @phuckimdead666 Not at all, if there was any influence from them it would not be a heavy one

  • @bovinemarauder What's your reasoning?

  • Comment removed

  • Just majestic.

  • Like autobiography..

    As it rose up before

  • sound influence like dream theater!

  • The album art somewhat reminds me of an album by a certain very famous British heavy metal band, and so also, the name of this song.

  • @H4xx0rM4xx0r Who? o.o

  • 4 people disliked this video.

I can think of no conclusions I can draw from this regarding their character or taste, and can only hope that they have since found a video more to their liking.

  • First time i've ever heard a riff that sounds natural in 3/4 played in 4/4... So it's prog even though it's in the most common meter ever :D

  • @wassuppaska Whoa. That's just plain freaky. This really does sound perfect in both 3/4 and 4/4.

  • @7j8i9m no, you can't count the intro riff in 3/4... you'll fall more and more out of time, going ahead of the drums by one beat per bar.

What I meant was, it sounds like the intro riff is really supposed to be 3/4, but Devin inserts an extra quarter note on the low C. Usually adding beats results in 5/4 and 9/8

  • Comment removed

  • @wassuppaska how about just counting 4/4.. you can count it perfectly, you just have the rhythm playing a couple extra notes, stop thinking so hard

  • @smittybang I know, that's exactly what I said. But take out the extra quarter, and it still sounds natural in 3/4... just haven't heard riffs like that before.

I'm used to thinking hard, Dream Theater will make your brain pre-conditioned to odd meters and a riff in 4/4 that sounds odd is prog to da max! :D

  • This is one of the greatest albums ever recorded in the history of mankind!!

  • @PunChonChin Legendary,masterful,genius,technical,breath taking,an awesome harmonious work of human emotions....Thanks Devin

  • You can not die without having heard Devin Townsend.......... IMO the biggest genius in contemporary music. Unfortunately, many people will never hear him. You know..... DT's music is not (irony) as good as rap, pop, techno ......(Any rapper or Justin Bieber in this world have far more views than this) So guys...feel lucky for having the chance to appreciate this man...

  • @navas015 cAN i DOUBLE LIKE THIS COMMENT!!!

  • @navas015 Oh crap! Did you just make a reference to JB in a Devin Townsend thread. Oh crap!! Did I just refer to Justin Bieber as JB!

  • @navas015 id actually love to hear devy work on some pop,rap or techno music

    evrything he does is epic

  • @BabyFacedAssassin301

Heheh, I've actually seen a statement about him in an article that said something to the effect of "everything Devin touches turns to awesome". No argument from me!

  • 4 IDIOTEN

  • Devin Townsend is the Mozart of metal. Un-fucking-belivable.

  • @rodhavji I think Devin is more like the Beethoven of Metal. Ihsahn is the Mozart of metal.

  • @rodhavji mozart of metal? come on man...........writting one melody lines isnt nothing like mozart.

  • @pilotoatomico Devin Townsend is een genie dank zij hem ben ik van de seroxat af en slik ik alleen nog zijn muziek

  • This album is a masterpiece in a higher level than others. Seriously, I can't believe this album has been created by men. Its possibly one of the best albums in the history of music. Not kiddin....... Progressive Metal/Rock at its peak. Devin Townsend is simply THE MAN. Period.

  • I always liked Strapping Young Lad because of their heavy sound, trippy effects and powerful vocals. But I kept thinking that the music would have a deeper impact if they toned down the speed metal and replaced it with more melodic, rock type music. I grew up on 80's and 90's rock and metal. So I love where Devin has taken the future of this genre. Keep on rockin

  • Excuse me but i actually kindof like that devin isint as popular as gaga and the likes, because that would suck hard.

  • An Alien-Genius just landed the Earth.

  • I nominate Devin for Best Canadian Guy

    also for Best Guy

  • @JthulhuOne devins from my hometown (new westminister, BC

  • the first devin townsend track i ever listened to...which was a pretty amazing moment for meXD

  • amazing how something so pure and intense gets only 55k views yet gaga gets over a million wake up ppl hevy devy is GOD!!!!

  • @jaysteinhauer Devin is only for the chosen :) That's something masses will never understand. Let them continue listening to their crap consumer product pop music while we enjoy the "prime and the elite" art of music making by people like Devin

  • @Roaltar i discovered hevydevy only 2 nights ago he is a genius my first track was Planet Rain in an obscure online music room so glad i was there to listen at that moment :)

  • if you don't know STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, listen to it, is fucking awesome, a very powerful side of Devin

  • I have been listening to this musical genius since 1996 he is out of this world every time i hear anything written and played by devin and how's Tracy by the way if you ever have time to read these things my friend Kevin and I have been huge fans, anyway it takes be back to a flooding of emotion and memories. I love all your work and I know you have a gift for getting what we all want to hear and I totally get it- thanks for all your work and letting us share it with you

    Erin

  • seems that devy always do something strange to people to change them in a way, musically mostly like in my case.what a superhuman!!!

  • I have only just heard this... and i am gonna buy this album just for listening to this song :D because Devin is GOD

  • Main riff is fucking insane!!

  • OUT OF THIS WORLD

  • Devin Townsend is a God among men for writing music porn like this. My ears just came.

  • Is the title a reference to Papillion?

  • Still absolutely crushing & inspiring.

  • oh man, i really feel like running away to this song :D

away from all the bullshit and just listen to Devin forever :))

  • fuck you devy metal!!!

  • wow iv almost been listening to hevy devy for a year now, hes fuckin cool. i wish he was my dad lmao.

  • I wish the ignorant people of today would open up their eyes to good music.

Everyone is sucked into the the hip-hop and rap scene, and are blinded by what is good music, and what is total horseshit.

    Devin Townsend forever.

  • @GiantPixels history has shown that the blind sheep are capable of "liking" good music too... for example take the Seattle scene in the 90's.. it was awesome, some of the best music ever written... and everyone liked it because it was popular... i prefer seeing idiots listening to shitty popular music just to fit in...to me its like they hold a sign saying " hey look at me! im a fucking soulless idiot!"..

its easier that way because they're easier to spot, ridicule and reject from your life.

  • @GiantPixels I so know what u r talking about!

  • were can you buy his cd's i got hooked ever since ziltoid

  • I want his children

  • LOL :)

  • @HannarghIMMENSE WTF???

  • @HannarghIMMENSE get your own

  • @JaCkRaBiTs99 I think she means she wants to have sex with him, I don't blame her

  • @Vennificus but anywayz, this is a kick ass song

  • the album is considered by me to be one of devin's best works, and that being a hard enough choice,i love everything he has done nonetheless.but this song is breathtaking indeed:D

  • This song is far better live, which I saw last night.

  • @DMfan1994 Hate hate hate. There, I feel better. :D

  • devin is such a strange man. one song is an epic prog metal master piece the next is a booming eletronic symphony.

  • i loved infinity, i loved terria, but ocean machine is an album made by the hand of god himself

  • that's true....on the seventh day God had a free day, so he went to the studio to make this record LOL XD

  • This album is timeless

  • @GatewayDirectory its amazing i and everyone on here will agree with u, devin is a genius.

  • @GatewayDirectory this artist is timeless..

  • @GatewayDirectory absolutely.

  • @GatewayDirectory all good music is timeless :)

  • I was told to listen to this guy by a Vast fan (who are another amazing band who don't get the recognition they deserve). Jesus, this song is immense, the whole album is!! I stayed up till 4am listening to the Ocean Machine album because I got addicted to it :D

  • This sound is what i would call "a wall" ... If you know, what i mean ... :-/

  • Comment removed

  • Fuckin ay man!! Been meanin to check this out for ages, savage shit!

  • OH MY

  • This is by far his best album.

  • This song has a killer riff. Top notch.

  • Bought this record 11 years ago. Still sounds fresh. Will listen to it for as long as I live (or can hear!). Classic.

  • i discovered Devin about a half hour ago. i hope he never gets the recodnition from mainstream society because those brandname fucks dont deserve to hear this mans musical genius. besides their just not ready for him. those who are looking for an answer will find devin

  • Wabaanimkii great to find a new fan but he deserves more fame but people are just too dumb to like him

  • SUCH AN UNDERRATED ARTIST!!!!! Kick ass prog metal song!

  • This song is magical, I just love Devin

  • Is this lyric based on some book or something? It looks like it is, but maybe I just don't understand the whole text and link to other things.

  • The entire album was inspired by Seventh Tenth by Patterson.

    It's a wonderful book.

Anyway the spoken part of the song is from a poem wrtitten by Lord Tennyson.

  • Ocean-sized awesome.

  • One of the best songs ever recorded. And Biomech is one of the best albums ever. Seriously.

  • New fan of Townsend here. Love this song, any recommendations of other great songs by him.I've only really listened to ziltoid so far.

  • anything he's released really! Try his albums Terria, Synchestra and accelerated evolution all three are spectacular!

  • look up a song called "S.Y.L." lol... or anything by Strapping Young Lad, Zimmers Hole,...

  • Will be interesting to see what he's like when he plays Bloodstock next year

  • Makes my man pussy wet.

  • So f-ing good.

  • Devin is not black nor is he german or a nazi nor is he anything like manson, wow people are stupid.

  • Why do people have to has such retarded arguments on youtube?

    Devin fucking rocks.

  • Because everyone who has access to the internet thinks they are a genius. They should all just shut up, sit back and appreciate this man's vast and eclectic back catalogue

  • For Gravelandart:

It's funny that you mention writing songs from a "White" perspective, as if this music is exclusively white. Anyone that has half a hint on the history of this style knows that it's guitar sound traces it's roots right back to Jimmy Hendrix. Hendrix had a greater and farther lasting effect on modern rock then anyone before or since.

That said, are you sure you want "White" music with a foundation in the creativity of a black man?

    LOL! Dumb F**K!

  • Who's a dumb fuck? The guy was named Jimi. Jimi fucking Hendrix. Not Jimmy.

  • Oh, you are right though.

  • I only recently heard of this guy and he has completely crushed everyone in my opinion musically. He's my new fave out of all the music I listen to. No matter what the genre, I prefer this to the rest. His lyrics and the music is phenominal.

  • @Lonenzdark2

Dev has that effect on people. Welcome to the club!

  • @Lonenzdark2 totally

  • amazing song with the atmospheric riffing mixed with choir

  • wow, neo-nazi's are still around? that's really dishearting, i've lost a bit more respect for humanity's wel being due to this discovery...

  • I laugh when I see the klan trying to push it's will through the internet.

  • Dude I agree, Even more so on this level... Denvin is beyond race, creed, skin colour, When it comes to his music, I forget all about this and feel apart of it all. Sounds "GAY" but I'm stronger then you fucks to care.

  • just letting you know that because devin looks similar to manson because of his balding doesn't make him one of your pathetic SS. btw have you ever thought of flying back to the "mother land" germany. I bet not... your probably to afraid to parade around there openly admitting to your Aryan beliefs. just see how long before your ass gets kicked by everyone in germeny.

  • There's a big Turkish ethnic minority living nowadays in Germany. It's estimated for over 10 milions of population. Plus 2-3 mil of Poles, some other Eastern Europeans, so called "coloured" of different origin (Africa, Middle East, Far East) and that altogether makes German society nowadays. Nazism grows back in the Eastern lands though, due to it's poor economic condition and communist legacy. You can't find a completly pure nation these days. Why people don't get it?

  • oh dude, i honestly didn't know the population diversity, i just happen to know that most anyone of "german" origins or even immigrants to germany would beat the shit out of neo-nazi trash like gravelandart.... but thank you for the information you learn something new everyday. btw way awesome playing thumbs up from Califonia

  • Cheers, fellar. I'm returning my "mother land" recently:D, check out me channel later on while I get me band together, that will beat the shite of any one, not only Adolf Hitler wannabes, lol. Take care.

  • egyptians

  • One of his best songs and albums to date. It staggering.

  • Now, since my last message i have bought ZTO. I had heard all those songs but "by your command" already before, and got to say it was still worth it. Now i have it in my hand, i can carry it everywhere with me and i feel good about this masterpiece in my cd-collection =) buy music people! Biomech will be next one!

  • the world needs more people like you who actually supports the musicians

  • I listen to this album every morning. One of the few things that keeps me going.

  • Progressive metal at its best possible form. Im gonna buy this too. Damn it , now i have to buy ziltoid and this :D chorus explodes my mind

  • what an opener! Sets the mood for one of my alltime favourite album!

  • I can't find this album anywhere physical!!! Looks like it's back to good ol' ebay.

  • I managed to get a copy in HMV, from time to time they do stock some nice little rarities
