I've watched literally hundreds of boxing matches, both old and new school, and never have I seen a ref start a fight and then turn his attention away from the fighters. In fact, I've never seen that in ANY sport. What Cortez did was not only dangerous on his part, but completely misleading to both the fans and Ortiz.

He doesn't strike with his elbow, he just uses it to either block/parry punches (when his opponent is trying to hit his body or throw an uppercut inside) or push (not strike) his opponent off of him when their trying to clinch. For me, the argument of whether or not what Floyd did was illegal wasn't the issue. Personally, in this situation it's the REF's fault. Yes, I said it, and here's why. I've watched literally hundreds of boxing matches, both old and new school, and never have I seen a ref start a fight and then turn his attention away from the fighters. In fact, I've never seen that in ANY sport. What Cortez did was not only dangerous on his part, but completely misleading to both the fans and Ortiz.
