Maggie apparently had many admirers and lovers in her younger years in Parliament. One of those was, , , , , , --. . . . . . . . , who was a young scientist but had socialist views on most things, much to Maggie's disappointment. But when the dashing and older Den the Man hoved into view - ' hey, M is your gal, Den boy !! '. . . end of story.
It was largely after the General Election. Before the election (and even on the day she was elected) she had quite a high, squeaky voice, a different haircut and was really quite dull. Look at her post-election and she had the deep, angry voice and she took up power dressing, all of which helped turn her into a living legend.
@gregorioallegri - that's where all the image-making began. And the consequence of it is what we have now - the only MPs who have a chance of becoming Prime Minister are those who look young, have a complete head of hair and are good at public relations.
I admire this woman!

Francois Mitterrand, the late French president, once famously said that Thatcher had the "eyes of Caligula and the lips of Marilyn Monroe"
What a combination for the greatest ever peacetime prime minister :-)

Why so shocked at this being 1959? Thatcher was 34 and had just become an MP.
