  • I've got no clue of this I just quessed and probably it's wrong (and we will never know cause Tolkien didn't mentioned himself what race tom bombadil was from so it will remain as a mystery to us) can Tom Bombadil be from the race of Beorn? anyone?

  • First time I read the Lord of the Rings some 30 years ago and I finished the book, I thought, so who the hell was that Tom Bombadil? He just didn't fit. So then I read the Hobbit and still no clues. Then I read the Finished Tales and still nothing. Finally the Silmarillion, which I had to read like 3 times! Anyway, the last gave to indication. I always tended to believe he is a maia who just likes to hang in Middle Earth. Cool song, btw...

  • @TheTheoldgit That's a nice thought. He must be something like that. There are also theories that Bombadil might be Eru Ilúvatar himself walking on Arda.

  • Genialna piosenka, aż chce się tańczyć O.o

  • Tom Bombadil was the only one who could wear the ring and not disappear. I think Tom was supposed to be the Spirit or Soul of middle Earth. correct me if i´m wrong

  • @TheTheoldgit your rong

  • @sauronsegg No... tell me why i´m rong sorry wrong!

  • Is that Bob Hoskins having a Bad Hair Day?

  • one thought..if you look at this as a christian allegory, and he's called the oldest and fatherless, maybe he's the middle-earth equivalent of Adam.

  • I still don't know who or what Tom Bombadil is :3

  • I still don't know who or what Tom Bombadil is :3

  • Tom Bombadil is Tom Bombadil..

  • We can never determine who precisely Tom Bombadil is, or if he may merely be an additional characterr otjher thn Eru or any maja or valar or ordinary wizard, tolkein himself claimed that he himself has no clue of who tim bombadil is, and that authors must make ome of their works mysterious even for themselves

  • bullshit Chuck norris smashes all

  • he was the first maiar who was created

  • @ZQMBGN Good guess, but no, Tom wasn't one of the Maiar. When he was asked about who/what Tom Bombadil represents, Tolkien himself said that he was intended to be "a mystery" and that even a book's author may not know everything about its contents. People have theorised that Bombadil represents Eru Iluvatar (Tolkien's "God"), especially since his wife, Goldberry, seems to represent "Nature", but Tolkien said that this is NOT true. Certainly he seems all-powerful: but he's MEANT to be an enigma.

  • @NellJSmith thanks for the info!

  • are you sure? i think i remerber when i read the Silmarilion (awfull book, but full of interesting things) and they said that the first maiars who were created were the most powerfull. they don't mention tom bombadil, but my theory is that tom was the first maiar who was created, and the most powerfull of all of them. in the book they said that he was there when the first rain came, so the world was created before him. (so he can't be lluvatar)

  • @ZQMBGN Its a brilliant book

  • @JordoF6 i don't think so. it isn't brilliant because it was his son who "write" it, and he didn't write it. it's just a bunch of storys without cohesion. and too many names

  • @NellJSmith sorry about my english. i'm spanish and the educational system is not good at all

  • was tom bombadil in the hobbit? if not where did they get this picture from? it's not in the trilogy

  • @ninjabastard2 No, he was in the first part of LOTR, but only in the book. Awesome character

  • @ninjabastard2 Apparently Bombadil IS going to be in The Hobbit. All of the film directors who have made versions of LOTR have been so unsure of how to portray Bombadil that they have simply left him out. It helps that it's possible to miss out the Bombadil-related parts of LOTR without damaging the story (well, not in any significant way). Tolkien meant to create and enigma, and he succeeded! Wonder how he'll be portrayed in The Hobbit...?! :)

  • @NellJSmith Grr... typos - hate!! Make that: "to create AN enigma", not "...AND enigma"... *sigh* :D

  • @NellJSmith awesome i can't wait to find out and thanks for the info buddy :)

  • they should have bombadil in the film......

  • aaaaaaaaawww.. Lovely song<3

  • El mas poderoso de la tierra media, pero es Tolkien el se dió ese gusto.

  • Is he a Vala ? I mean his power comes trough singing, so this seems to make sense

  • @stegi94 no, i think he's a Mayar, the servant of Valars. i aint sure, i've read the book a long time ago

  • @RetardBolesni you never find out what he is you're supposed to assume he is the only of his kind

  • @RetardBolesni Bombadil's actually far more powerful (although some argue that this applies only to times when he's within his own "domain") than any of the Valar OR Maiar. For example, even the One Ring has no influence over him at all, unlike Valar, Maiar or Eldar, who were all affected by the Rings of Power in one way or another. He's actually unique, and was a deliberate mystery created by Tolkien. Please see my reply to ZQMBGN so I don't bore everyone by re-typing it all! :D

  • @NellJSmith This is true, VERY little is mentioned about bombadil but i honestly think he is Eru Aluvitar.

  • @steamingpoopfart There are a few possible options that are possible, yet the option of Illuvatar being Bombadil isn't. Tolkien said, in one of his letters, that there is no incarnation of Iluvatar in Middle-Earth. So while we don't know what Bombadil is, we know quite a lot about what he can't possibly be, by analysing texts about certain options.

  • @stegi94 he is Maia

  • @ShakinSlim Many people think so, but nope... please see my reply to ZQMBGN. No need to re-type it all! :D

  • @NellJSmith : Your reply to ZQMBGN doesn't really demonstrate that Bombadil isn't a Maia ... it just says it's an unresolved mystery. Also, your statement that the Valar were affected by the Rings of Power doesn't quite make sense to me since, as far as I know, they never had any interactions with the rings whatsoever. I think the theory that he is a very old, powerful Maia is as plausible as any. (Also, I've not seen anything to suggest he'll be in "The Hobbit" movies.)

  • El unico personaje que no era afectado por el poder del anillo

  • I'm so gonna play this when im running around the old forest, lol.

  • Hahaha.

  • I thought he came from the moon .

  • Thumbs up if you saw the dragon part way through!

  • muy buen rola

  • The hobbit god.

  • Bombadillo!!

  • TSAR BOMBADIL !!!

  • Hahahaha what the hell is this video supposed to be?

  • hes a tall hobbit,thats about it

  • @TheRevan1337 lol no way he skips his way into mordor and commands the very earth around him to lay waste to every evil being in middle earth :)

  • @SynoDesign one does not simply walk into mordor, well, you do if Your Tom Bombadil, hell he dances into mordor

  • I think that Bombadil created J.R.R Tolkien

  • Una pregunta , como se llamaria esta musica asi de este tipo?

  • @Karlana2010

    Creo que Folk Metal...

  • Sauron cries like a baby at the thought of fighting Tom Bombadil.

  • tom is chucks dad

  • I always liked to imagine that Tom Bombadil is a powerful Maia who wanted to dance and sing instead of doing anything eventful, so whenever he shows up he's just a badass.

  • Tom Bombadil would kick Chuck Norris Ass !!

  • @LegendaryKiIIer Of course, cause he is "the master" ^^

  • @LegendaryKiIIer Many times.

  • @LegendaryKiIIer How do you know if Chuck Norris ISN'T Tom Bombadil? :)

  • @mofrakker

I hate these absolutely stupid comments about Chuck Norris. Stop comparing all heroes and badass characters to him. You can't compare a real human being to a fictional character in a book in the first place. So STOP IT already!!!

  • @LiamDerWandrer Seriously, you need to lighten up. We all know Chuck Norris doesn't actually have superpowers. This doesn't mean it's not amusing to play along with the 'Chuck Norris Facts' in which they present an actual person in a way that's almost mythical. He is is used frequently in comments and most people who use him I'm sure are aware that he hasn't counted up to infinity 'twice'. Happy New year btw. Peace.

  • Don't know who this guy is...all i know is that hes OP in bfme2 xD

  • @PauPauPaulina Saurom

  • @PauPauPaulina LA BANDA SE LLAMA SAUROM Y PARA MUCHOS ES MEJOR QUE MAGO, JEJEJE

  • hahaha a pimp?!!

  • Tom is a hobbit! In the book Frodo had gave him the ring but he didnt disapeard ! The ring has no effect to him and he has no effect to the ring! In LOTR BFME 2 Tom is hero! And the music is awful!!!

  • @ChrisGR2010 If not disappearing makes him a hobbit, Why does Frodo disappear when he puts the ring on? herp derp

  • HES A LEPRECHAUN

  • Tom Bombadil was a character outside the standard Middle Earth mythology (Elves, Orcs, Valar, Maiar, etc.). Tolkien created him intentionally this way. he refused to explain his true nature.

i think Tom Bombadil represents some ancient creature that is bound to nature - a nature deity or ghost. and even if the world has changed and was populated by newer creatures, this creature continues to live. but it has its own rules & doesn´t care about the world outside its territory.

    it simply "exists".

  • Even if Tolkien would still be alive, he woulndt say who T.B. really was.

  • only galadrial and celeborn can face sauron without craping

  • Comment removed

  • Tom Bombadil was Tom Bombadil. 'Nuff said.

  • Best Unit in Battle for Middle Earth 2

  • Tom Bombadil cannot venture from his forest.

  • @LordProteus yes he can. he simply doesn't want to.

why should he? he only cares about his forest, and as long as that is unharmed, Tom Bombadil does no harm.

  • A drunken Irishman?

  • he's a maiar spirit that remained in middle earth

  • OK admit it ..How many of you watched the whole vid all the way through??

  • Where can I get the lyrics for this song?

  • EVERYONE! I found out who Tom Bombadil is! You won't believe it, none of the rumors or theories were true. This is from Tolkein himself, people just found a journal about all the secrets of the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion and every lore-star!

    Tom Bombadil's true identity is...

    /snooze

  • Some rumors from some Tolkien story fragments suggests that Tom was extremly powerfull character almost as Gandalf but he was too uninterested for Middle earth clashes, and relations...who he really is is unknown but he sings a lot cuz he lost his wife and his wife is in some relationship with Galladriel and could be her sister... and foremost LOTR should made the scene with him meeting the hobits cuz Tom Bombadil is appearing in the book and they should have respected that

  • @nightmarealeksinac Gandalf is only an itari there like the 3rd lowest class of the spirts its more likely tom is the creator of middle earth illuvitar basically lotr version of god.

  • @JordoF6 Istari are Maiar, and due to the huge variations in power between Maiar, we can't be sure about how strong Gandalf really is, but he definitely is very strong.

And more likely that Tom is Eru? It's not exactly known what he actually is, but we do know a few things about what or who he isn't. In his letters, Tolkien made it very clear that there wasn't an incarnation of Iluvatar in Arda. We can discuss about what he could be, yet Eru isn't a possibility.

  • did you all know that Tom started off as an ornament Tolkien had in his dining room or something, and Tolkien wanted to give him a history so he called him Tom Bombadil and put him in middle earth :P

  • If it has to represent something, Tom Bombadil is a force of nature. Vigorous, strong, accepting and restless.

  • Bombadil is the reader itself. think about it, and it makes sence! he was there when it all started..BOOM

  • Best song ever! SAUROM rules!!!

  • aiala

  • I can't say who Tom Bombadil is but... In LOTRO, there is an instance of Othrongroth(Epic Questline) where you encounter an powerfull boss in end... He keeps regnerating his HP when he reaches lower than 50% so he is basically IMPOSIBLE to kill, but when there is no more hope, tomb crushes and Tom Bombadil walks in... That Wight-Lord was like: ‚‚IMPOSIBLE!'', and after that, Tom just said ‚‚Hey, Dol, Merry, Dol'' and Wight turned into ashes... Such power in Tom Bombadil!

  • for me tom bombandil is lord of the ring's chuck norris.you can summon him as a hero in lord of the rings the battle for middle earth 2 video game and he kicks ass!!!!!!!

  • This pic is from the LoTR TCG, it was made for the game only and has NO connection to the Jackson movies. I believe this guy was a founder of Decipher Inc

  • I loved tom bombadil in the books. so much goinig on, so much at threat, but not a problem to this being. As if all these goings on were just a game at which he was amused. A great light to throw on goings on. important to you, to others, not more than a laugh. you got the feeling, if sauron came to absolute power, tom bambadil and the area around him would be unaffected. He can wear the ring and laugh at it like a childs toy.

  • ta buenisima la cancion!

  • Stop guessing who Tom Bombadil is. Nobody knows who Tom Bombadil is, because Tolkien himself didn't specify his identity. Some say he's an elf, others say he's a Maia, others say hes Iluvatar. But the truth is nobody knows and at this point nobody will ever know, because J.R.R. Tolkien has passed.. God rest his soul. The identity of Tom will remain a mystery in Tolkien's work.

  • @RulerL0rd Tolkien literally said he was an enigma, so I would go even further: Tolkien actually said he didn't know either.

Yet some things are definitely untrue: he definitely isn't an Elf (he existed before the Awakening), not Iluvatar (Tolkien literally said there wasn't an embodiment of Iluvatar on Arda). But besides those excluded options, we don't know what Bombadil was indeed.

  • @MasterBombadillo I don't see how this makes any difference to what i've said. Anyway.

  • @RulerL0rd It was rather to defend your opinion, and some further explanation, especially on some theories we know they aren't correct.

  • @MasterBombadillo Alright then.

  • @RulerL0rd

Agreed, We Should All Use Our Own Imagination To Create Our Image Of Tome Bombadil, For That Is What Makes The LOTR and Middle Earth So Great Because Of Our Own Images Of The Characters.

Thankyou J.R.R. Tolkien For The Magical World You've Given us Rest In Peace In Your Own Shire In The Sky

  • @RulerL0rd Old tom Bombadil is a maia who decided to stay on middle earth. The rest of his breathern left for the undying lands at the end of the first age after the defeat of Morgoth, Saurons master ( ... as Gandalf put it "landed on white shores" ) read the book is called The Silmarillion ( it covers the first and second age of middle earth).

  • @deepdragon2 I've read the Silmarillion as well as other Tokien's books. There's nowhere specified that Tom Bombadil is a Maia. Maybe you have misunderstood something, somewhere in the book. Reread it.

  • @RulerL0rd

you#re right, the dude even mixes up elves and maia.

  • @OropherThranduil didnt the maia take shape as elves? havent read silmarillion in a very long time so im quite uncertain bout' everything, but im quite certain some form of "gods" took shapes as elves and descended from haven never to return, just at the point when the world was created, 100%! yes, ur post is 6 months old =)

  • @SuzyLeeZombie

well, i don#t know for sure, but the maia who fought at the end of the first age against morgoth might have taken the shape of elves.

sauron had the ability to look like one i think and did so during the days the rings were forged and i think when he went to numenor.

but i don't think the valar lookied like elves, rater like nothing else does.

  • @RulerL0rd

probably he wrote it down someday, but right under it he wrote for his son chris, don't tell anyone.

  • @RulerL0rd Iarwen ben adar!

  • @RulerL0rd no Tom Bombadil is Tom Bombadil.......

  • @RulerL0rd No Hes chuck norris`s great great great grandfather

  • @RulerL0rd I don't understand why people should stop investigating that which cannot be answered with certainty? Is it safer for you if people would just go 'yeap a mystery no can do'? What's the problem?

  • @RulerL0rd tolkein had premeditately refused to identify whom tom bombadil virtually is...and of what erace he dervies from..because as tolkein himslef professed..authors must keep some elements of their works as a mystery..even for themselves

  • @RulerL0rd Wrong. Infact there is a book By J.R.R Tolkien himself, about Tom Bombadil's Adventures, The Identity Is Remained In That Book But His Whole Identity Remains With J.R.R Tolkien. Tom Bombadil is also somehow Related to Frodo and his history, Which means hes also related to Pippin And Merry. Since They Are Also related to Frodo. Its In The Family Tree (Its Shown In The Back Of The Return Of The King Book obviously by J.R.R Tolkien.) I May Be Wrong About The Family Tree. Im Tired.

  • @babbalouie23 I got tired of all those random capital letters o.O

  • @RulerL0rd Hey babbalouie33 said everything = /.

  • @MrGotyouto 23* :3

  • @RulerL0rd I think he's a maia

  • @RulerL0rd LOL! Read some Tolkien,he is described as Maiar.

  • @SheFollowsMoon I have read all of Tolkiens works on Middle Earth, it is never specified.

  • @RulerL0rd This is not really true, even thou I agree that argue about hes race is meaningless. But Tom Bombadil was the first one to enter middle earth cause hes god himself, If you just start to read you would know that god doesn't really have a specified race.

  • @RulerL0rd The answer itself is pretty fricking obvious oh great RulerL0rd! Tom Bombabdil is a FREAKING GANGSTER PIMP!! WHAT WHAT!

  • @RulerL0rd i think tom is AULE himself

  • @RulerL0rd tom bombadil is god^^

  • @RulerL0rd what is Maia and Iluvatar ?

  • @Citzen92 a iluvater is a Creator God and a maia is a pure creature, sauron is a maia for example.

  • @Citzen92 Ilúvatar or Eru is the Creator, the father of everything, the Almighty God in Tolkien's legendarium. At First, Ilúvatar created the Ainur, both powerful and wise immortal spirits. The mightiest of the Ainur are called Valar the Forces of the Earth. The lesser spirits-deitys are called Maiar. Vala is the singular for Valar and Maia is the singular for Maiar.

  • @RulerL0rd thats not a bad explanation but if you'll recall what he says in the book "Eldest that's what I am" is about the best explanation you can get

  • I HATE THA THEY DIDNT HAVE THE PART WITH BOMBADIL IN THA MOVIIIE!!!

But i shouldnt blame them, the part with tom could make a whole movie itself.

  • One does not simply walk into mordor..... unless you're tom bombadil.

  • tom bombadil dances into mordor singing of his fair goldberry and throwing his hat into the air without a care.

  • @RothrilSectolith and even then, he dances his way in, bouncing into orcs and the Dark Tower as he sings jolly tunes

  • @RothrilSectolith no,he dances into Mordor and runs over orcs at the same time

  • @RothrilSectolith or chuck norris!

  • @RothrilSectolith : Actually you cannot walk to Mordor even if you are a Tom Bombadil, because he doens't have such of power outside his area.. ;)

  • @TheMobSpawner <-- troll

  • @TheMobSpawner

Is there any actual proof of this? From my understanding he was master of The Old Forest, but that doesn't mean his power is completely limited there. After all, he does rescue the hobbits from the Barrow-Downs....

  • @shingamikid : Have you read the book's? There it says, he doesn't have that kind of powers outside his area.

  • In the book Frodo ask's Tom to join their "fellowship" but he says that he doesnt have that kind of power outside his area. He is just master of the old forest.

  • @TheMobSpawner he made a ghost EXPLODE. by singing. he is just too awsome to tell how much.

  • @TheMobSpawner It wasn't certain whether or not he had power beyond his lands because he refused to leave it. He was definitely a being of tremendous power, however, it was stated by Galdor at the Council of Elrond that Tom Bombadil himself wouldn't withstand a siege by Sauron "unless such power is in the earth itself", implying that he is the manifestation (or spirit) of Middle-Earth itself. This is also in line with the fact that he was considered by Gandalf as the eldest being in existence.

  • @TheMobSpawner he himself made his limits of land if he wanted he could extend the boundaries of his land to any where in middle earth or (it is my belief )even to the havens, undying land and valinor.

  • @TheMobSpawner u dont know that, stop stating facts that doesnt exist.

  • it was a joke^^

  • I am in the middle of the Silmarion i hope they will talk of Tom at a moment :'( !!!

Oh and my next reading will be the adventure of Tom !!

  • does any of you have the lyrics to this song???

  • Esta cancion, al menos la melodia, no es original de ellos, es musica tradicional irlandesa.

This song is original from irland, is just a version
