@powerofthroughts The US contolled the sky in both Nam and Korea. In both wars the US killed more fighters than visa versa. In Korea, the F-86 was superior to the Mig 15. The Mig was built to be an interceptor, and it did it well. The F-86 was built to be a dogfighter. The advantage the Mig had was a higher ceiling height.
In Nam there were very few Mig 21's. I believe less than 24, and the N. Vietnamese tried to avoid fights
with the F-4. They used the Mig primarily against strike aircraft like the Thud. The F-4's had to entice the Migs into the air. I suggest you read about Operation Linebacker, and you'll see how the Migs got their butts spanked.

In real life the F-22s would have only so many AAMs to fire before they'd have to go back to base and reload...they could be bounced in that time. They wouldn't be operating so close to home on operations, in all likelihood...and real bandits don't wait for you to go home and top up.... Even the best training is no substitute for the real thing. Remember that for years the RAF and Luftwaffe whupped the USAF at Red Flag with older planes!

@pogularocky You're the dummy, dummy. Right now Russia has no aircraft in service with AESA. Stealth brings a lot of advantage to an A2A engagement. It allows the F22 to get the first shot off. Plus, the F22 carries its load internally. External stores increase drag which reduces maneuverability and speed. The F22 has done very well in exercises even against 4+ generation aircraft like the EF and Rafale. U don't have a clue, dummy.
A Russian AESA radar was shown off at a military expo in 2009 at Moscow. I am sure they are retrofitting their front line fighters with it now. Stop under-estimating them.
Stealth is just over hyped. The Su-35 (latest Sukhoi in service for Russia) has longer range missiles than any American a/c including F22.
When an F22 switches on its AESA to lock onto a Russian a/c, it loses its stealth right away. And do not forget, when the weapons bay opens, it loses its stealth again.

F 22 was pitched against a Rafale in UAE. That does not prove anything about it's performance against a Su-35.
An Su-35 does not use American or French style radars for WVR combat. Russians have OLS which is way more advanced in detecting "stealthy" a/c in WVR.
USAF admitted that their F-16s were unable to lock onto the "MiG 21 Bison" during "Cope India 2006". So, stealth technology comes in many forms.

Russian radars in service are PESA, which the US has had much experience and know-how with their performance capabilites.
The F-15, as described by Fornoff in this vid, didn't have trouble locking on the Mig, but trouble locating it it due to the radar jammer. He was referring to Cope India where US a/c were outnumber 3-1 and didn't carry the AESA available at the time. The F-22 by its design is difficult to lock on.

@powerofthroughts The US contolled the sky in both Nam and Korea. In both wars the US killed more fighters than visa versa. In Korea, the F-86 was superior to the Mig 15. The Mig was built to be an interceptor, and it did it well. The F-86 was built to be a dogfighter. The advantage the Mig had was a higher ceiling height.
In Nam there were very few Mig 21's. I believe less than 24, and the N. Vietnamese tried to avoid fights

Contrary to your belief about the Mig 21 being dominant in Nam, there were actually very few Mig 21's in action. USAF pilots often had to trick the Mig pilots that they were attack aircraft to get them into the air to fight.

@1987naren The JSF's engine is the single most powerful fighter engine in the world. And, breaking missile lock isn't as easy as you seem to think. Most dogfights are around 1-1.3 Mach, well within the parameters of the JSF. And, the JSF's weapons are internal, meaning they will not create drag to slow down or decrease its maneuverability.

What I find really funny is ,as an American, This is the first I here about this. This really falls under the no-news catergory. It's just a training exercise. I never even seen this on TV. The reality is the U.S. sends the next unit on rotation; were fighting two wars. This is just one of thousands of exercises happening around the world. In the scale of 1-100 this falls somewhere around 2 in my book. It should be higher for the fly boys actually there. Guys stop the propaganda.

The Indians sent rookie pilots who had just graduated from the Hawk training (in UK, mind you - under ex-RAF instructors).
They had far less experience than the jocks put up by the USAF.
In Cope India, the IAF used TACDE grads who dominated over both USAF and RSAF pilots, using inferior Su-30K jets.

The Raptor has something like a 242-2 kill ratio at Red Flag, and the planes that took it out re-entered the fight after being taken out. 242-2 is hideously unrealistic...it's not even funny. In real life the F-22s would have only so many AAMs to fire before they'd have to go back to base and reload...they could be bounced in that time. They wouldn't be operating so close to home on operations, in all likelihood...and real bandits don't wait for you to go home and top up.... Even the best training is no substitute for the real thing. Remember that for years the RAF and Luftwaffe whupped the USAF at Red Flag with older planes!

That includes exercises over several exercises. For most cases they killed their opponents at BVR b4 the aggressor squadron knew what hit them. There were a few gun only shots where the F22s snuck in behind. In a real war the F22's would launch their missiles from BVR and not engage at WVR. They also perform the role of a mini-awacs. cont...F15 can launch its missile from BVR using the F22 to guide it in until the missile's radar itself locks on. That lets the F15 stay at a distance and use the F22's stealth. They use a fancy new term for the F22 in this case calling it a force multiplier. Look it up if you think I'm kidding.

Plus, the F22 carries its load internally. External stores increase drag which reduces maneuverability and speed. A Russian AESA radar was shown off at a military expo in 2009 at Moscow. I am sure they are retrofitting their front line fighters with it now. Stop under-estimating them.
Stealth is just over hyped. The Su-35 (latest Sukhoi in service for Russia) has longer range missiles than any American a/c including F22.
When an F22 switches on its AESA to lock onto a Russian a/c, it loses its stealth right away. And do not forget, when the weapons bay opens, it loses its stealth again.

Even in UAE it didn't need to use its AESA to get kills on the Rafale, and even when its radar is turned on it doesn't identify where the aircraft is coming from. And, longer range missiles don't mean shit when they can't lock onto an a/c . Even at WVR the F22 has been proven difficult to lock onto.

F 22 was pitched against a Rafale in UAE. That does not prove anything about it's performance against a Su-35.
An Su-35 does not use American or French style radars for WVR combat. Russians have OLS which is way more advanced in detecting "stealthy" a/c in WVR.
USAF admitted that their F-16s were unable to lock onto the "MiG 21 Bison" during "Cope India 2006". So, stealth technology comes in many forms.

The F-15, as described by Fornoff in this vid, didn't have trouble locking on the Mig, but trouble locating it it due to the radar jammer. He was referring to Cope India where US a/c were outnumber 3-1 and didn't carry the AESA available at the time. The F-22 by its design is difficult to lock on.
