I have the same Universal Carbine and I use it for re-enacting, the only problem is that you cant get a blank-adapter on it to fire semi-auto. I constantly have to rack the bolt it sucks!
@JayJ00ls Indeed. And the funny thing is I have a P38 and I'm about to trade my Kel-Tec for a Universal M1 Carbine. Kinda weird, but we will be very much a like!! Awesome pistol, and awesome rifle. What can I say.
thats a later universal, u can tell by the lug on the right by the stamping, anyway how do u like it? how reliable is it? for around $400 i might settle on a universal
@kojpuasncokuv it looks to be 2nd generation because 3rd Generation had the lever on the receiver to lock the slide back. This one looked to not have that.
There's no real difference between any M1 Carbines, except for the WW2 model having simpler sights, and the Paratrooper model(M1A1) with the folding stock.
The M2 is fully automatic(It'll cost an arm and a leg for both that and the permit)
The M3 Carbine(semi-automatic) used in the Korean war has scope mounts, but are pretty expensive.
there are a ferw differences between m1s, depending on series and manufacturer. got watch the manufacturer's serial numbers to know. ex: big differences between 2nd generation Universals and USGI m1 carbines.
I also have a Universal M1 Carbine. I ordered the 20 30 &40 rd mags for them from Sportsmans guide and I dont recommend them since the fit is off. I think they're intended strictly for the military version. They will work but they fit very loosly from front to back and very tightly from side to side. That being said I live this gun and so does my 17 yr old son! Its a great hobbie to share with your kids. Just going out and target shooting for a few hours or so. Stay safe man! Your a good shot!
the m1 carbine has a good punch to it. orginally intended as a replacment for the m1911 and othe pistols. did not work out that way as the m1 and m2 and other varients were retired after vietnam. the french foreing legion used it in vietnam during dien bien phu.
@deepwoodskentuckian The M1 carbine was designed for mortar crews, machine gun crews, radiomen, tankers, artillerymen, signals troops, engineers. The M1 Garand was too big for them to carry and a handgun was not accurate enough. They wouldn't replace a small side arm with a rifle.
The universal carbines are not tooled to the strict specs the military ones are and are plagued with problems. I have one from the war and a buddy who has a universal and he's had nothing but trouble. I hope yours works out though.
hey thanks for posting, I bought a universal M1 for my dad's birthday last week. he had a real GI model in Korea, he just wanted one to shoot wild hogs that keep tearing up his land. hope it works as well as yours..
In case you haven't figuered it out yet.....the switch on the right side locks the bolt open to allow for loading mag while in rifle with stripper clip.
Well, 50/50. The universal was a semi automatic m1 carbine, with 2 models:one being made of mostly gi parts, the other with only a few. The GI M1 carbine was fully auto/semi auto, and had a different look to it. The carbine in this video is the 2nd model, with few GI Parts, and lots of undesired problems.
So yes its an m1 carbine as far as civilian rifles go, but Its not a real wwII, just post war.
I have the same rifle, and it works perfectly, So dont think im dissing universal m1's
A beautiful rifle. Accurete, reliable, and light. The only problem it has was that it was a bit under powered, and was put into production on the bad premise that pistols would no longer be used. I have fired the M1 Carbine before, but I do not own one yet. It will make a good addition to my collection when I do aquire one.
They weren't under powered, just under appreciated. the m1's main focus was to kill when needed (and trust me, It kills at 150 yrds), but mainly to take 4 players out of the battle field: wound 1 person, medic goes to aid, followed by 2 soliders for protection. Also it was used as a patrol weapon, and rifle for guys in tanks, and generals; so not for front line soldiers... thats were the garand comes in.
The .30 carbine cartridge has almost identical ballistics to the .357 magnum, I would not call a .357 magnum "underpowered" if the shit were to hit the fan I would feel safe with the .30 carbine.
@nandoGdog I don't even listen to that ballistics jargon...if you have a .223 and a .30 carbine? Shoot them both at some steel and you'll instantly realize which one hits harder within about 200 yards. Ballistics has never been worth a nickel when it comes to real World cause and effect. That 110gr .30 carbine causes a lot of bad effects for bad guys!
got the same one. love it. may not be "as good" as a original but they're usually in better shape and make better shooters than the old, beat up military ones. mine is my favorite of all my guns
Awesome dude! My grandpa has the same gun his looks alittle older though. its awesome! its the same kind of rifle he had when he was in the Army during the Korean war. It was usually the higher ranking troops that were equiped with them. but man, i sure do love shooting them M1 Carbines :) Grandpas had it for like 50 years lol!
Yeah, mine was built i believe in the late 50s early 60s. It wasnt a government rifle. Id love to have one like your grandfathers, but they are PRICEY.
nice gun but pronouncing it wrong my uncle loves guns and think he has a couple of them got any ak-47's?how bout an m-1 garand however you spell it or a .50 caliber machine gun lol now theres some entertainment

With a Universal and a P-38 you are well, if unusually, armed.

LOL yes unusually armed is right, but still not someone to fuck with. I can think of a lot worse choices.

I just bought a Universal yesterday for pretty cheap(compared to lots of other M1's).
If the prices on the shells go up much more, I might see if I can get it converted to a different caliber.
